I don't think the alapanai is by M S Amma, it is by her daughter Radha Amma.....Radha Viswanathan is an unsung heroine (!!) who sung with her mother M S for many decades :-)
Ad a rule I do not believe in poorva punyam or karma visesham. But the exception is the case of MS.Such a divine mellifluous voice almost from infancy. It could not have been just acquired, must be God-given.
Lovely performance. Her song reminds me of my mother's carnatic music classes in the 60's and 70's. It's sheer nostalgia. Moments of nostalgia .Thank God for a genius like MS .
ohhhhh my goshhhh amazing song i have no words to describe the sanctity of her voice and thyagarajas composition really am very proud to have been born here........
What divine music!! Thanks a lot dartdisah for posting. I never had the opportunity to listen to her live but if I'm willing to request the almighty for another Janma just to listen to MS Amma.
Utterly fabulous! A rare gem of MS from her treasure trove of music. The song in the film Sangarasangamam is the one that I knew first. Again, absolutely fantastic; original!
One of the best versions of Balakanakamaya is by M. Santhanam (with his wife) - an old recording you can find on Sangeethapriya. Athana is such a beauty! :)
I can see the beautiful Rama and feel the passion of Tyagaraja questioning the lord on why he is not caring in the voice of MS in this song. My salutations to the great MS.
legend has it that thyagaraja concieved this after a darsan of rama and as a result of the upheaval of bhakthi he experienced he ended up singing ( writing ) the anupallavi before the pallavi and the kriti is still sung in that order.

Is this a Tyagaraja's composition? Do we hear his signature name at the end of the song?
