I just don't see the future of djing if BPM counting (and harmonic mixing) tech improves.. a computer will do all the work. That's why I encourage vinyl use. Keep it oldschool ;)
digital djing has made things a bit too easy. there's an actual button called "SYNC" which synchronizes a track with another one, so u can make a transition easily. My cat can prolly do that too.
The advantages of digital music is that it is easier to transport, doesn't get damaged over time and you can have a complete overview of a track by looking at its wave line.
But analog has better quality, more frequencies and just an ultimate feel. :)
I know that digital audio can have better quality, but I doubt that audio CDs and MP3s (the most popular forms of digital audio distribution) have much higher quality than vinyl. And most average digital DJs I see here in Berlin use mp3s, not wavs. Besides if the wavs are created off ripped CDs I guess the quality isn't too good. If u get tracks in digital format directly from the studio, the quality should be better though.
compression of the digital file and mastering for the vinyl (well mastering is always important)
for making a vinylcopy the mastertape needs to be specialy remasterd. if the engineer makes a bad job, the vinyl is inferior to the cd or mp3. and both, the vinyl and the cd/mp3 are made from the same DIGITAL mastertape.
besides: if you rip a track from cd to wav, it is exactly the same as on cd. no difference.
I didnt mean to say that a ripped wav is lossy, just that a CD's quality is limited.. wavs are only of good quality if source is the original mastertape.
But I see you know that, prolly better than me too ^^
of course i know better. i always do ;) physically a redbook-standard cd is superior to a vinylrecord. and both are made from the same master. so the ripped wav is better too. if you get the 192kHz/24bit master, its the best you can get. but i doubt that you could hear the difference on an average good soundsystem. BUT due to the vinylmastering you will hear a difference between the final vinyl and the master. the vinyl might sound better for you, but thats a personal preference and not a fact.
same here (about electronic music producers though). A DJ just mixes and spins, if he makes his own music he's ALSO a producer. A DJ's only job is to choose proper music (tracks that fit well after each other), observing how the crowd reacts and adjusting, and of course MIXING (make a proper smooth transition between two tracks without the beat messing up and people noticing, throwing tomatoes to him or losing the will to dance)..
Yeah and you sure know NOTHIN about what we really do, maybe you seen to many nerds with laptops and no skill, sad for you, but there are some of us that take this serious.
Why don't stay in your car and listen to what shit you want.
ever heard of MIXING, dumbass? if you say djing is as easy as hitting the play button on an mp3 player, I dare you to prove your statement to me by showing that every human person can beatmatch by ear and make a transition, plus keep a crowd dancing for hours without losing interest to the music. Plus, if you're in a country like Greece where people know little about DJing you'll have to deal with lots of people bugging you during a gig.
I respect DJs who are knowledgeable enough about music theory that they can compose a track that isnt a fucking 9 minute loop. and like 90 percent of people with a macbook these days are now a "DJ"...lame
the only thing missing is three people coming up separately but in a row asking for the same song like you can't figure out that the first one got his two friends to ask as well.
oh yeah, and that trentemoller mix is the biz, way better than the thin white duke version everyone here plays ;)

Real DJs should stick to vinyl ;D

you are fataly wrong about the quality of vinyl.
due to its limited possibilities, vinyl has less frequencies than 44/16 wav file. thats a physical fact.
i do understand, that the feeling of a vinyl record is unique, but all the gibberish about its "quality" is just annoying.

it depends on two things:
compression of the digital file and mastering for the vinyl (well mastering is always important)
for making a vinylcopy the mastertape needs to be specialy remasterd. if the engineer makes a bad job, the vinyl is inferior to the cd or mp3. and both, the vinyl and the cd/mp3 are made from the same DIGITAL mastertape.

DJ's are nothing more than human mp3 players who love telling chicks at the bar that they are musicians.
3510211 3 years ago
i lol'd
do you think all a dj does is choose the tracks??
ever heard of MIXING, dumbass? if you say djing is as easy as hitting the play button on an mp3 player, I dare you to prove your statement to me by showing that every human person can beatmatch by ear and make a transition, plus keep a crowd dancing for hours without losing interest to the music.
