  • At 1:22 you were supposed to close the cover then open it

  • Can anybody post the dance remix?

  • my god..my GOD! i know very little about PIpe Organ, i must admit

but, what just went out those keyboards had me in tears for how brillatly pristine was rearranged and executed by you! im deeply moved by your technique and interpretation!

  • I prefer Johann Strauss.

  • Well, that was pretty good.......but I wanna hear Keith Emerson play it.

  • WOW, that could play a baby -.-

    bravo...... -.-

  • It's a real song

  • Wow, I can't believe he screwed up at 2 minutes 34 seconds... What a failure ;)

  • i like the part 2:43

  • I wish I could play as well as you.

  • what the hell is this supposed to be???

  • which ignorants ruined this masterpiece of art by coughing and slamming the door TWICE.

can i hear it again please, i am afraid i missed the best part.

    thanks for not disturbing.

  • @maebeach the whole point of the piece is for people to notice the sounds (however random) around them to make the music, so in this case, it was a success!

  • @dangitcarn

    nicely said

i would rathert hink, that good music lives of silence in between brakes, as long it takes not that long.

  • dynamic. DYNAMIC!!

  • "Tiii" ………………………………………………

best note ever made on a piano song!

  • You are so good ;)

  • thats way off key

  • Pardon me, could you give me further information about this famous organ?

  • 44 people wish they could play this peice without the original score as well

  • The best is the moment when.. OH all of this i s awsome

  • you cant say this is a bad song if youre not considering the elemts of music

  • I think he went of key about 2.43 into it, otherwise it would have been note perfect.

  • Wonderful!! I put this on the facebook page JOHN CAGE'S 4'33'' FOR CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE 2010

  • I tried to play this by ear, but it was awful. Nice version. I really like that little bit at 1:35.

  • it's 4:38! wrong.

  • @Adanedh3l he started his watch before he started playing dipshit

  • Well played, Mr. Peters.

    Sincerely, Miss Dover

  • @mon3cz Thanks Miss Dover. hahaha This was my own arrangement... Do you think it was risky to start on Full Organ and do a Regerian Decrescendo throughout?

  • @Bachlives2 I do think it was a tad risky. However, the execution was just superb, the audience responded well, and the risk really did pay off. It came across magnificently well and you should be extraordinarily proud of this masterpiece. ;-)

  • @Bachlives2 hey ..teach me how to play this okay ? you are music expert ..

wow I pay 100000000 bucks for this

  • Mozart said the most beautiful sound of the music was the silence...

  • This organ transcription is yours?

    you made an amazing job!

  • lol, thats one of the best interpretations i've ever heard!!!

  • oh... I love this cover! Ya are my MASTER.

  • WOOOOOOW very nice cover !!!

  • no joke this trulely is an amazing peace of art

  • Organ version. Mmmh...

  • @MarcheseCadmio88 maybe I try the acoustic guitar version some day...

  • i so could have played that song better than him !

  • if i want silence, i turn of the speakers.

  • When my music teacher told me about this piece, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever, and I still do.

  • the best one is 3:09 x)

  • On one hand, this is an insult to just about anyone's intelligence. On the other, we live in a noisy world and this piece highlights that. That is the ONLY redemptive attribute for this piece. However, did you actually "pay" money for the score? If you did, Cage was smarter than I thought. What was it that P. T. Barnum said about a fool and his money being soon parted? Or was this a "photo copy"? Did you ask permission? Play it from memory next time. You are brave so congrats on that !!!

  • @WAX6428

Actually, that is the core of the piece. There is no such thing is silence, so his goal was for us to simply open up our ears and become aware of all the sounds around us that we tune out on a regular basis. Placing this in the context of a set of instructions of how to make or not make sound (frequently referred to as music) forces both the performer and/or the audience to do this where they might otherwise not even consider the possibility of doing so.

  • dude, that was terrible. i've been practicing this piece for a few days now, and even i can play better than you. lol.

  • it's off key.

  • you playing it wrong =/

  • The tempo is off, the key is all wrong and it seems like you did it in an odd key signature. Other than that, I find your performance adequate. You get a B- overall.

  • this person obviously didn't buy the sheet music and is trying to play by ear. and i'm not trying to make a joke. he's playing it wrong!

  • We live in a world of neverending music.

  • best cover i've heard

  • Never heard this on an organ before.

  • he was fucking fake person!

  • Can someone explain me please ..i watch a few videos of 4'33 im learning piano ..but well i dont know i just dont get this!

  • I think Cage wanted to say that you don't need notes to make music. The silence can be music too.

  • The idea behind the piece is that the performer does nothing, and rather the audiance is entertained by whatever sounds one may hear while attending the performance. basicly, whatever sounds you hear is the music.

  • exactly right. From what my teacher told me, during this songs debut, people in the audience started getting restless, clearing their throats, shuffling in their seats, whispering, and that was exactly what Cage wanted. ambient noises to be the notes

  • Funny, I actually had to introduce my teacher to this piece. who is your teacher/ what're they teaching?

  • So the sound of my faulty central heating system in the background is the music?

  • I suppose, but usually when this piece is performed in concert the coughing, seat shifting, etc. would be the music.

  • @avena36 your over thinking it to much. it is what it is.....

  • All things considered, Cage's stunt completely misses the point (which is that a performer sitting silently is a totally different thing that the background noise of a symphony hall during a concert).

  • my favorite part is at 0:32 it is fuckin' awsome...

  • organ out of tune, interpretation ok though.

  • Ke skifo è?!?!?

  • Wonderful interpretation, your tempo was dragging a bit though.

  • For me, it's a bit too fast. ^^

  • the sound of silence, you got it without instrument too

  • you can hear the organ hummin... turn this up real LOUD and it will be a Cage piece. Video not to interesing

  • This sure is special but still "Nothing special" :D

  • God DAMN!! Your NUTS! :D

  • amazing interpretation! Really cool to see it transcribed to Organ!

  • This is an interpretation of a PIANO piece composed by John Cage in the 1950s.

You have to understand something about the history of music and the Arts in order to appreciate it.

The definition of music as I usually give it is:

"a series of sounds and silences, organised in such a way as to be reproduceable and which pleases someone, somewhere, sometime".

People think that "silence" is absolute, and that you can find it for example in a deep grotto. But you will still hear heartbeats.

  • That was fast ! Didnt even see his hands moving. But still think anyone could play it at that speed. Keep practising you might get better!

  • stupide thing! absolut stupide....

  • that solo is just awesome. I learned this song on my violin

  • you "learned" LOL its stupide and Leute verarschen!

  • What kind of a sentence was that ?

Anyway I don't like the idea of covering this "song".

  • This is not a song. Nobody is singing!

  • nature is singing

  • I want a pipe organ.

That aside, there's something about this piece that makes my head explode.

If I went to a concert that played it the music everyone would here would be-WHAT THE HELL? THAT'S NOT MUSIC! I want my MONEY BACK!

  • Das waren sinnlose 4 Minuten und 33 Sekunden deines hoffentlich wertvollen Lebens, die du nie wieder zurückbekommen wirst!

  • Just remember, two of the greatest mistakes of the 20th century were Cage and Communism!

  • Comment removed

  • WTF !!!!!

  • The best part of this video is the calculator watch.

  • I think I prefer the piano version

  • One of the best songs I've heard.

  • When the door opened around 1:40, I was like "WOW SHUT UP HE'S IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG AND YOU JUST RUINED IT"

That's worse than talking at the movies.

  • This is great. I think someone needs to record a rock version.

  • lol encore

  • you're just taking the piss...

    this is nonsense

  • I recently played this while taking my morning crap, it's not all that important to have an instrument involved.

  • The best song to sing while taking a crap.

  • my band director was there when cage wrote the song......the whole point is "how do you define music?"

  • its true that you dont need instrumental knowledge to play this. anyone can play this!

  • i don't get how this is an actual "song"

  • Its a song that really does prove that there is no such thing as DEAD SILENCE.

  • it's not a "song", actually, it is a piece of classical 20th century music. This piece lets you listen to everything that sounds while you assist in a concert of "sounding" music.

  • The cool thing about this is that you don't even need to know how to play any instruments to play this!

  • This is one of my most favorite compositions. Thank you for posting this.

  • I thought I heard this piece in concert once but I was mistaken.

  • OHMYGOD do you have tabs for this!?!

  • that is true there is no such thing as complete silence

  • It sounded like you turned on the blower at one point, but of course it's an Allen, and doesn't have one!

  • liar this piece is 4 minutes 37 seconds! haha

  • I posted this as a joke you moron... thak a chill pill!

  • It's strange how every foolish nonsense can always have a large following among idiots.

  • I posted this as a joke. I think it's a dumb piece. So that is why I played this at an april fools day recital!

  • did you, really? did you posted it as a joke??? ...and I thought you were a musician...

  • You blew me away with your mystical prowess.

  • That was fantasticly played

  • Fantastisch!

Hier gaat een hele rust vanuit. Mijn handen jeukten als ik dit "hoorde".

  • This is nothing.

  • I really enjoyed this organ adaptation of John Cage's 4'33". Absolutely brilliant. I've actually been working on arranging a version for percussion. I still haven't finished it yet.

Great job with this organ version. Keep up the great work, my friend.

  • you are an idiot. This piece is retarded

  • Dude, settle down. My comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Of course this piece is retarded. I'll agree with you there. Its 'retardedness' is what makes it so great and controversial at the same time. Read some of the other comments posted and you'll see what I mean.

  • And the retardedness of the piece has made it legendary, along with its composer. This piece is more famous than so many pieces which no one would think of calling them retarded. Now that Cage has virtually patented this type of music, I wonder what other composer would dare to create another work in this fashion...

  • You played the wrong sequence of notes in the second movement. Also, it would sound better if you played on piano. :) Seriously speaking, Cage actually does some hand gestures to add to the artistic value of the piece. You still play it very well. Great job!

  • this is such a beautiful song

  • Theoretically there could be silence. If some wide spread disease, which struck people profoundly deaf, and could be spread genetically infected the entire population. Even so, tinnitus, although is inner sound, can still count as sound. The odds are very low, and very improbable, but it is still possible.

  • or you go into space

  • I'm not sure that "silence" depends on our being able to perceive it.....

An entirely deaf population would find it difficult to appreciate music and would need special devices to be able to distinguish "sounds" from "silence".

    Silence is golden, but impossible.

  • you are too awesome

  • I would not say I am awesome....

Is it me or is it weird that this video gets commented on the most and receives the most views out of all my other videos?

  • "Piece"?? That's not a piece, that's not music. This is... nothing! :|

  • verry difficult

  • does it make any sence?

  • sense is written like this: senSe.

  • this is a song?

  • whats the point of this and dont u people say its expressing feelings or some shite cause this is pointless no feelings at all of course and just pure silence i mean i could do that any1 could...

  • It's not meant to express feelings, genius. It's meant to turn the performance around where the ones who are really making the noises are the audience.

  • well, there's 4 minutes of your life you'll never get back!

  • do I want to?

  • AGREEED Same Here!

  • I have my attempt of playing it on my channel, but I was nervous and I think I missed changing into forte, also some fireworks and some planes made noise at the end, but seeing how hard it is, I think I did okay!

  • i disagree a bit on the interpretation... i think it needs to flow more. there were some times i thought you weren't really feeling the music, so if i were you i would look for the trouble spots and work on those. otherwise, good performance.

ha btw, i love your watch. in case i never told you that.

  • you're offbeat and you missed the crescendo

  • I know it is such a difficult piece of music though

  • But you messed up. The timing shown is actually 4:37. Do over!

  • I was playing with more of an Adagio than an Andante...

  • You're playing too fast.

  • You're doing it wrong!

  • Has anybody heard the amazing version by Evgeny Kissin, where he plays «4'33"» in only 3'51"‽

  • I like how this video has more views than any of the ones of you actually playing. Tells you something, dosen't it...

I think you should have counted in your head, not used your stopwatch, and we could see how good your timing really was.

  • ha ha ha you are so funnny!

  • uh huh.. Well, i see where all of you are coming from. Yes, this is a quite interesting peice. However, music doesnt NEED sound. Music IS sound. The word "music" is a name simply for rhythm. So i guess the real music, is what one would hear from an audience during this performance. If anything, id say this performance is more of an appreciation to the simple sounds we take for granted or find irritating, like coughing. I digress. I am rambling. But id like to hear what others think. :]

  • I found your performance rather aggressive for my liking, and I knew it was a Rodgers by the sound alone. Whenever our old Rodgers sounded like this, an amp fuse had blown.

  • I don't know how to say this... ...but, this is an Allen

  • Now that you say it, none of the stops are illuminated, and the crescendo indicator is recessed into the panel. The silence fooled me into thinking it was just another Rodgers with a computer problem.

  • Ah yes true...

  • Simply amazing! no rare movements. good technique. Im convinced that the sound was as the composer wanted to be, iam for sure.

  • A friend of mine played this piece too in a recital. Result: People leaving.. and lots of questions after the recital! General approbation :P

  • Shocking!

  • Spot on, m'boy! Spot on!

    Bravo!

  • I like this. Light, airy. I listened to it twice and did not hear a single wrong note. I might have gone with a slightly different registration, but that's just me.

Too bad about that cipher from 1:32 through 2:15. Oh well, those things happen.

Is there a MIDI file available for this music? I'd like to use it for one of my videos. Thanks.

  • I don't remember what scene it is, but I believe they use this as background for one of the scenes in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." I'll have to watch it again to see what scene it is.

  • Of the three performances of this work I have witnessed in my life, this was the best. Of course, it wasn't fair to count the one by 'Young Mitchel,' where the work was cut short due to a sudden memory lapse brought on by the "Agitato" section. But this is the FIRST performance I've heard on organ and I must say, if there ever were any question, this performance is ample proof that the organ truly IS the "King of Instruments," the cello being a close second (approximately coming around 4:32).

  • That must have been terrible to have a memory lapse. I personally think the harpsichord is a close Second it is number 1.5 in my book...

  • Music isn't just about the sound. It's genius, because it proves how some people are so technical and only say music needs sound. no such thing as silence.

  • Exactly

    =]

  • I meant to say

This was such a clever ideal for John Cage to "invent" (if you would) this song. It was also amazing that he "played" it in front of people at a concert. It just goes to show people that there really is no silence in the world.

  • This was such a clever ideal for John Cage to "invent" (

  • Thank goodness your audience didn't applaud between movements. I just hate when that happens.

  • I love the registration you used! Very fitting for this piece.

  • The crescendo from 1:34 - 1:39 was beautiful!
