He lost one game in that jersey, the game where his balls ripped open, four teeth knocked out and concussed with no recollection of the game, true winner, true leader.
some people here are being pretty harsh on today's All Blacks
they win more than ever and yet we are still not happy, I'd say Brad Thorn is as hard as it gets, Carter maybe a pretty boy but he is one of the greatest to ever play the game. I love Buck and that generation of players, they inspired me to play the game when I was a kid...but you cant take anything away from today's crop....they play just as hard and means just as much to them as any other AB
When he played for Northampton against Coventry in 1992 I has the pleasure of being on the field with him . I was in complete awe of him(along with the other 28 guys on the pitch) He was amazingly big and strong. I go along with all comments about Buck. definetly the top no.8 ever.
wow the culture in NZ rugby back then was soooo awesome. We seem so PC now. where did the mana go? we're awesome now but man, the boys back then could surely teach these young guns a thing or two.
So much mana, a leader with a follow me attitude, 'would you like to pay tribute to grant fox & john gallagher???? they were just doing their job, fucken brilliant.
@samsonmorrell how about those guys that are battered and bruised? "nah, they'll get through the night." -"they're all All Blacks right?" "thats right!" lol.
he talks like they just came out of a war...they remind me of the SAS or Navy SEALS---they just BAD ASS and the all blacks to day dont have dat edge.lol..
@Lavulo187 Its because they've started hugging & kissing 1another when they score now-a-days. Remember the days when they used to score and just turn around and run back to their position....no hugging no jumping around no sign waving...they were like machines back then, no emotion, like the terminator...15 of them...just as hard...just as brutal, no wonder it scared the shits out of everyone..total intimidation..it was an art form that was worth 20 points to them. No one is scared of them now!
@NOGOODHOODnz I love the bit where the interviewer says "They're All Blacks aren't they?" and Buck goes "that's right". 20 years and the attitude goes. Being an All Blacks just means being big now. No hard men.
@brynjones11 I wasn't meaning we don't have a great leader, I was saying the attitude about being an All Black had changed. In those days you were a King amongst men, but now it's like rugby players are their own sect in society. Get my drift? I'll be over the moon if anyone proves me wrong though
