  • bull shit first past post baby, it ensures a stable government without any whackado's

  • nice page…

  • Okay i stopped watching this quarter of a way through cuz i can already tell its confussing most likely bull shit , this video should definatly be removed

  • This confuses me even more. Apart from anything, aren't Chris and Tyler boys names....?

  • This is the worst, most convoluted disaster of an explanation I have ever seen of ranked choice voting. You should take this video down immediately, as many people won't realize you were STUPIDLY demonstrating the selection of multiple candidates, rather than a single winner. In case you haven't noticed, most cities that have adopted RCV use it only for the mayor's race. Really, take this down, as most people who reject RCV do so because they can't understand it AND YOU AREN'T HELPING!!

  • FAIL, half of Chris's votes aren't assigned to second choices, that all are it's done with fractions.

  • Wow. I'm finding this really hard to understand.

In the USA Senate each state has 2 senators & elects 1 candidate each election. In Australia each of the 6 State has 12 senators & elects 6 each election. To be elected you only need 1/6th (say 17%) of the votes. This means minorities to get elected, but the Senate is supposed to safeguard STATE interest & be a house of review! Government stems from commanding a majority in the house of reps, the so called lower house. Australians often deny the government a senate majority.

  • Secret voting was invented in Australia. In the USA it was called the Australian Vote. For the Reps we use Preferential voting. Not UK & USA 1st passed the post. So when vote 1. Greens I do so knowing they will not win in my local electorate. But they run for election, get my vote which is then redistributed to either (the equivalent of the USA's DEM or REP. So my prefernce is recorded and the GREENS feel like continuing their fight for truth, justice & the Australian way!

  • Lets say there are 2 candidates. DEM & REP. Someone has to get 50% plus 1 vote & win. Theoretically the could be exactly 50% each. Let's Ignor that remote chance. If the GREENS get 20% of the vote & REP get 41% & DEM 39%, the REP win! But if there was no GREENS candidate, the GREENS voters might vote DEM & DEMOCRATS would have won! This is the PREFERENTIAL (winner takes all) voting used in Australia's house of Reps. It allows new Parties to grow! = poliical change/evolution = advancement.

Funnily enough, I just read what Wiki has to say about STV (single transferable vote), that is: Preferential voting. It says: "STV is the system of choice of groups such as the Proportional Representation Society of Australia and the Electoral Reform Society in the United Kingdom. Its critics contend that some voters find STV Difficult to UNDERSTAND". But Australians have been doing it fo rso long we find it perfectly UNDERSTANDable.

  • This is why we love election nights & watching how candidates A, B & C (lets say C=Greens) get say 46%, 40% & 14% of the first (No.1) Vote & we watch TV as candidate C's (Greens) votes get redistributed & the final result is candidate B wins! Yeah!!! As he/she ends up with more than 50% of the vote. So my Greens vote is a) Moral support for the GREENS & b) is counted to decided what we call the 2 party prefered outcome. Its as if there were always only 2 candidates. So SIMPLE, no? Say yes!

This is the reason Australians are so, if not absolutely, confident with the outcome of our elections. We know our vote actually counted. And we can see how, if a candidate got up and ran for election, we could Express our preference (for CHANGE) and still have our vote counted in determining the status quo, which is, like in the USA, an actual choice between right & left.

If you Wiki "Secret ballot" you will read this about secret voting: The ballots are specifically designed to eliminate bias & to prevent anyone from linking voter to ballot. This system is also known as the Australian ballot, because it originated in Australia during the 1850s. In the United States, it is also known as the Massachusetts ballot since Massachusetts was the first U.S. state to use the secret ballot"..PS: In the USA it is no longer called the Aust. Ballot, as it once was.

  • Is this different somehow than Instant Runoff Voting? It appears to be the same thing. I'm definitely a big supporter of IRV.

  • Yeah, this is like applying IRV to at large elections with the concept of thresholds.

  • finally, a video on choice voting/stv!

  • Didn't British Columbia try to change their voting system to STV this year but the public rejected it with only 38% supporting STV?

  • I think they screwed themselves. This is the only proportional system I know of that allows for geographical representation at the same time.
