  • That's so weird that his name is David Russell and plays guitar. That's my name and I play guitar too!!! Well, I'm just a kid...

  • He sounds great on the Gilbert, doesn't he?

  • 4:35!! he misses one out of every million notes!

  • Awesome, just awesome.

  • Este tipo inspira.

  • He's the only guy i've seen play this flawlessly.

  • @maxhiner699 Not flawlessly but very nicely.

  • Se puede tener mejor gusto que este hombre??!!

  • one of then hardest things when you play live is to recover from a mistake and he did it like the master he is. He is a great player, and non one should judge on mistakes, don't ever think in the 1 second of mistake, better look at the 5 minutes of delightful music. That´s what I think.

  • wohoo, Hungary for the win. Mertz for the win ;)

  • everyone makes mistakes, and that's cool, we're humans. You should look for something beyond the superficial. 5 STARS for David!

  • holy crap, it looked like viggo mortensen for a sec.

anyways, awesome guitar work of course.

  • totally agree, he looks like viggo -

  • thanks for sharing this ultra rare great stuff.

  • oh man!

my favorite guitarist playing a piece by my favorite guitar composer!

this is an awesome video...and to anyone bitching about the end, please go fuck yourself...

  • awesome . . . 5*

  • Podríamos estar ante uno de los guitarristas más profundos y románticos de la historia.Sin lugar a dudas.

  • amazing. i thought only americans were allowed to play in the gfa tho

  • what, no. no no no

  • He made some mistakes from 5:11 to 5:13, but still great.

  • How many mistakes do you make?

  • your mom made some mistakes from 5:11 5:13, but was still great

  • Such perfection truley pains me, literally heart-stopping!

  • o Russell deu uma engasgada no final, mas contornou a situação e terminou a fantasia hungara com maestria. Não tem o que falar dele. Ele é demais! viva ao Russell!

  • playing a gilbert guitar too! Man this is early russell. Very nice. Yeah if you guys get a chance i'd definitely go hear/see him. I saw him several times but one of those was the most transcendent concert i've ever been to. I got totally lost in the music. But then again it's all subjective because I know guys who were at the same show and didn't feel the same way....

imo one of the best period.

  • those people who didn't feel the same way were probably just crazy. i've seen him live and it was really jaw-dropping

  • Wow this early David Russell. Anybody know when this was recorded. I believe that he is one the best performers around. I say that but I have not yet had the oppurtunity to hear him live but I turn to his recordings for all the advice I need. Flawless and he is also a philantropist which is very awesome. Check out his website.

  • Thank you DrMikero for posting this. I have the GFA recording and this is one of my favourites. Sublime skill and musicianship from a true master. I saw him play in 1988 and this was not on the program. Never thought I'd get a chance to see it live. Long live YouTube. (Even if he did screw up the ending a bit....lol).
