The actual messages from German HQ to American Bastogne garrison is much longer, and Germans gave americans TWO hours of truce to reply.
I don't understand why german commanders chose to do a 17th century siege tradition, send a letter requesting garrison to surrender and wait for reply before assaulting. Didn't germans know their weakness of urban warfare while doing a blitzkrieg?
@DiscothecaImperialis Do not forget that (answering that first part of your comment) that characters,locations and events were changed "to convey the essense of the battle" as it is stated in the closing credits . Do not forget also that Operation Wacht am Rhein was already "doomed" from the beginning ; we should not think that the Germans lost the battle because of the way they sieged Bastogne ; but rather because of planning , bad choices and luck and low supplies .
