Much of the traditional klezmer repertoire was written by professional klezmer musicians in the style of their region or tradition, and a lot of co-territorial music such as non-Jewish folksongs, especially Romanian music (mainly from Moldavia), as well as Ukrainian music and Ottoman music, and the musics of other minorities living in the same areas as Jews in Southeastern Europe such as Crimean Tatars.

Music is language. It can be spoken by all religions and cultures. Music is also a language where we can honor God and he can speak to our hearts in return through the gift of musical talent.
Whenever I audition for orchestras and metal bands, they always ask me to listen to their songs and play something that goes along with it. You already have Itzhak playing the melody, so what could she do? lol, I think she could've done like "duel" thing or elaborated what Itzhak was doing, and after he played mimic or embellished on what he already did. That would've sound nice.
wow..i did not know Itzhak Perlman would be caught DEAD playing music like this with a drummer and not playing classical. this kind of music is cool though. i guess it's jewish or something? or greek? forgive me i don't know. i guess even the greatest classical musicians like a little variety!
kathrynh89 This video was recoded in Kazimierz, a Jewish part of Krakow where Itzhak's family was from and music is Klezmer, music of Eastern European Jews and Itzhak wasp pround to play, it's the music of his people, that is why went to Krakow,
wow that's neat..did anyone watch the Grammy's and see that Perlman was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award? Glad to see they recognized his awe-inspiring talent with this prestigious award. Congratulations, Itzhak!
The style and structure of klezmer as we know it today is thought to have come largely from 19th century Bessarabia (Romania), where the bulk of today's traditional repertoire was written. It is based on hora, sirba, doina, all of them of Romanian origin.
his classicoromantic interpretation of klezmer is just horrible for me: it's just a demonstration of (shit) virtuosity)but nothing inside!should hear the violin of Michael Alpert(Brave old World)on his left and Alicia Svigals (apears in third part of video).
The two violoniste dont play beside perlman beacause they will ridiculise him with crazy deepness and expressivity.
Really great. Perlman totally getting down! I love his form even more that ever! Very laid back and still amazing as ever. Wish I could've been there.
this makes me want to eat spaghetti and yell for more wine or something. i'd heard of the name Perlman but never really knew what he was about...good lord the guy's a wizard. and that improv bit at the end where they "pickled" it makes me wanna yell for even more wine!
What's the name of the last song?

The best fiddler on Earth. I love how he tests the water, and then jumps in. He knows the key just using his ear. That's a good fiddler!

Does anybody know what's the cloth between his violin and neck made of?
sarevilo31 2 years ago
It is just a handkerchief. Most people use a shoulder rest (like Kun).
