  • check my channel for Broken Sword playtrough with commentary!

  • i got stuck on this fucking game at the GOAT part cunts

  • The game is great, the voices are great, the story ius great, the art is great, the dialoug is great, the trailer is great...this game is the GREATEST EVER!

  • One of the best games I've ever played though I've just finished playing the directors cut and sadly it was pretty disappointing. It seems like they edited and cut away all the violence to the point where there's no blood and you can't actually get killed now.

  • @CynicalVision Yeah I'm playing the DC at the moment, and it does feel as if some of the charm has been taken away. I'm sure even some of the dialogue has changed slightly.

  • @KJGould

Yeah! Sometimes it's fine but sometimes it didn't make any sense. Like just after the cafe explosion, George says something completely different and it's really unnatural the way he says it.

It also seems like some of the random videos have been taken out as well. :(

  • Gosh, I remember watching this on an old PlayStation demo disk. My father and uncle eventually bought it and could never complete it. Also reminds me of playing multiplayer Doom via serial link on the PlayStations...

  • THAT VOICE!

  • i loved the whole series... i hope they make it up to broken sword 10!

  • George Stobbart created life using a piece of tinfoil and some string

  • what psx demo was this included in?

  • @badboybrattli It was like the very first one that came with s PSX, I think. The one that had the T-Rex simulation you could control (the head and face). I can't remember what else was on it. Maybe a Destruction Derby demo, a Loaded demo, Jumping Jack Flash demo and a wipeout demo. This is just off the top of my head.

  • @KJGould I remember the T-Rex on that demo. I'm sure it had a mantaray you could control underwater too. So much nostalgia. I'm sure it also had a game called descent where you're in a little spaceship in a doom like environment.

  • As I picked myself up all I could hear was the ceaseless drone of traffic , life went on around me but the explosion would change my life forever - George Stobart

  • @irishsimon99 I think that bit of dialogue is missing from the director's cut version.

  • @KJGould - You're right. I know some trimming might have been required due to the DS size limitations but it doesn't really seem like the same game - but Revolution might just say "It's NOT the same game and that's the point - It's a directors cut - so shut the heck up". We can always just go play our PC or PSX versions I suppose. Personally, I wish Nico hadn't become the lead character. I still prefer the original intro with the crow animation, arial view of Paris, music and Stobbart's dialogue!

  • I wish i'd never played this game so I could play it again fresh.

  • i just !love! narrators voice, its spoooooky O.o

  • @Suzumebacy

yes it was:-) can you tell me who is it? it sounds a little bit like Vincent Price,:-D

  • @RudisChannel hhhhmmmmm well now that u asked it may be vincent ^^ i didnt pay attention :D

  • Did anyone else HATE nico? All the bitch did was sit there and wait for George to come back and any time ya called her "Oh I am too busy to talk to you George" still ana wesome game though :D

  • @lawlor88 omg i hated nico so much. she was such a bitch

  • I remember this trailer being the only video included on the "Demo 1" disc I got free with my original Playstation. Still got the disc, and the console. Fond childhood memories.

  • man, i wish i was dragged into an adventure this grand.

to save the world, traveling around the world, finding ancient places unknown to modern man.

  • "of course"

  • Interview with Charles Cecil, Broken Sword 5 question comes up and what a fantastic response :D

  • Just epic narration ;) very good trailer

  • @ryuyelo Vincent price voice amazing

  • EPIC

  • how do you save on pc cd rom help how do you save the game? help :(

  • @whenypen Press Esc and it should bring up a menu where you can save and load games.

  • @KJGould hey thank you....for your reply GBU you save me as I saved the game :)

  • I love to just watch this trailer from time to time... In my opinion simply the best trailer ever produced.

  • Doing a Lets Play of this at the moment, such a classic piece of storytelling, amazing character, and that soundtrack..so stirring. :) This is what I miss about adventure games, indeed games in general is the feeling of a well crafted world on par with this.

The closest game I played recently to this would probably be the HD re-release of Beyond Good & Evil.

  • Next they should included the Assassins of AC

  • @Freddy1210 Broken Sword: featuring Templars before it was cool.

  • @KJGould The fictionalisation of the Templars has always been 'cool'; back in the late 1800s widespread Templar conspiracies were popular as hell. They're just enjoying a renaissance now, really.

  • one number and one consonant: 2 D

  • @mitdafocas 2D just has this charm that 3D can't replicate. I like 3D games, and some 3D have their own charm. I think originally I read Revolution switched from 2D to 3D because it was more cost effective as the software just wasn't being developed for that type of 2D pixel based animation and it took longer. What I'm wondering though is why not return to 2D but use Adobe Flash? Current PC's and Macs can handle big files, either as digital download or on DVD or even Blu Ray now.

  • i could write lines and lines and endless sentences and sentences praising this game but ill make it short. THIS GAME IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER RELEASED ON ANY PLATFORM!!!

  • THAT FUCKING GOAT&THAT FUCKING GUY COUGHING

  • Broken Sword The shadow of The Templars and The Smoking Mirror are The Best games in the world for me forever, If you didn't play it, you missed a lot.

  • I remember playing a demo of this game years ago and I was hooked! I've since went on to buy them all but I feel it was this original broken sword that has instilled in me a love of all things french.... It's funny what can impact your life. I'm moving to a Francophone country this year! ( Not France)

  • I feel like those of us who know of this game are too far and in between. We should all band together and get friends to play this on good old scummvm. THE ORIGINAL! I'm a bit of a purist. :/

  • @carnage89 Yep. I have the 2 disc cd rom which needs swapping discs at certain points. None of this dvd or digital download malarkey.

  • @KJGould Hahaha, that's the best way. People don't know what they're missin'. :/ I would think about getting it on steam if they had the original, but to their defense they have the second and third. ^_^

  • This game and 'The Smoking Mirror' are two of my absolute favourite games.

  • one of the best games ever

  • I used to play this when I was younger and this and Broken Sword 2 are my favourite games ever. Does anyone have recommendations for similar games i.e. 2D point-and-click with a similar sense of humour?

  • @ASFX07 Discworld and Discworld 2 but they're near impossible to come by as psygnosis folded. They're technically known as 'abandonwear' I believe. Day Of The Tentacle was a fun game too though no voice acting, just subtitles.

  • @KJGould Psygnosis didn't fold, they're still going as Studio Liverpool now :), also I can't wait to play Broken Sword 5, I only played 1 & 2 on my PSone, would it be worth getting 3 & 4 just to get the full story or just wait and see what 5 is like I hear its back to being like BS1 & 2

  • @madridboy86 I'll have to look at studio liverpool to see if they'd re-release the first 2 discworld games (discworld noir was crap and buggy). I liked 3 a lot even though it played more like a puzzle platformer. 4 became irritating for me personally because the 'lateral thinking' became ubsurd in solving some puzzles. Plus I always had difficulty running it on my PC at the time.

  • Does anyone know the name of the narrator? Because his voice is downright EPIC.

  • @PaulV177

I think its Barry Clayton, narrator for count duckula, and did the intro for shadow of the beast (iron maiden song), if its not him then he just happens to sound very similar

Also out to anyone who's considering the directors cut, i think its just a bit rubbish, destroys the feel of the original. We'll never see another broken sword, they could make another 10 but nothing could match the first

  • i am gonna buy this game :)

  • THAT SON OF A BITCH GOAT! FUCK ME 6MONTHS TO FIGURE OUT THAT THE SCREEN MOVES 2CM TO THE LEFT AND YOU HAVE TO TRAP HIS HEAD!

HANDS DOWN, ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER PLAYED! The rest were not bad but this one will forever have a place in my heart during my youth. I wasnt allowed to play during the week but when friday came and finished school, it was me, hot milo on a rainy day and broken sword... THUMBS UP FOR THIS AWESOME GAME!

  • I have a question, what's the difference between the original version and the directors cut? I can't decide whether to get this game on gog or on steam

  • That is something!

  • where have those day gone? it brings me back in 96. and in my high school time . .

  • That voiceover sounds like the dude from the Duckula intro!

  • I'm also unhappy about the censorship I thought this was the directors CUT?

  • @serpant567 just means there's more scenes in it. Maybe it was censored because it came out on Wii first? Or is it the same age rating?

  • i totally forgot all about this game. brings back memories

  • Broken Sword = awesome

  • THAT FUCKING GOAT

  • @philyburkhill1 Don't get me started lol

  • @philyburkhill1 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargghhhhhhhh....2weeks of my youth

  • @philyburkhill1 that sir, is one epic comment xp im trying to stop laughing but i cant! hahahahahahaha

  • @philyburkhill1 that sir, is one epic comment xp im trying to stop laughing but i cant! hahahahahahaha

  • @philyburkhill1 that sir, is one epic comment xp im trying to stop laughing but i cant! hahahahahahaha

  • I haven't yet played through the director's cut version but I really don't like how the game starts with Nico and a very clear motive. I like how the original game starts very mysteriously and you pick up little things here and there to put together this wonderfull puzzle.

  • I bought the original back in mid 90s for PC. it's still my all time favourite game.

I'm playing the Directors Cut now. Somehow it feels like I'm not too happy about some of the changes. It seems like they censored the game? Can anyone confirm this? I recall that Fitzgerald mouth was bleeding when he was hit by the ferrari. In the DC it's removed.

  • @MagisterHamid his mouth and nose was all bloody in the cut scene before he was kidnapped yeah. I still have the original on CD Rom (2 discs - have to swap them around depending on the part of the game you've reached!).

  • The Directors Cut version is on sale at Steam for $2.50 until Jan 2nd.

  • @jonomcleish Good find, thanks!

  • @jonomcleish It's also free on 12 days of iTunes today!

  • I played so often and it still wont get anoying

    i love that game

  • Revolution are releasing Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror Remastered for iPad / iPhone / iPod touch before the end of the year and for PC / Mac early next year! No new content apparently just facial annimations and some tweaking of things that didn't work well before.

  • @Okuplok90 that's interesting. Did they release the first one remastered, or just the directors cut on Wii?

  • @KJGould Just a director's cut, but the remastered version will be similar to what they did with BS:DC (just no new added content). Also Broken Sword 5 is in the works too apparently and it will be in 2D.

  • @Okuplok90 nice, I never completed BS 4 never really had a decent enough PC to run it on!

  • The best game ever.

  • Is it just me, or the animation looks like Don Bluth style?

  • @Lefiath It does. Although he didn't work on it himself, it was animated by guys that worked with/for him I think. It's a great style that works well with the themes of this class game :D

  • @Pxxxxxxxxl What's wrong with the re-make?

  • @Pxxxxxxxxl Ah ok, I think they called it a Directors Cut or something. Just as well I have the originals! I thought the first 3 games were released as a pack recently, to play on modern PC's?

  • @KJGould Yes, that's correct, Broken Sword 1, 2 & 3 all for a £10 on a single disc with Beneath A Steel Sky thrown in for free. Great Value For Money... but the whole series is priceless.

  • @DAVEvJOHN Can you play it in a higher resolution now, or do you have to play in a lower setting? I'm tempted to get this so I don't have to change discs for certain levels!

  • @KJGould No, there is no change in resolution but yes it does save time from changing discs. 4 games on 1 disc is pretty awesome.

  • @Pxxxxxxxxl Is that the one on Nintendo Wii?

  • Just started playing 1 and 2 again, works fine on XP if you right click and run in windows 95 compatibility mode, no need for scummv or anything. :)

  • ahh I need to get a copy of this game again I think my ps1 is still working. They should bring this out on PSN!

    Such a good game

  • epic game :)

  • this game was fucking mental !! do you remember that bit in Ireland where you the goat starts charging at you?? -- omg so exhilarating.

the most action packed game i've ever played--you need the reflexes of a cheetah to pass this game!!

  • Owen Wilson is in fact (somehow) George Stobbart

  • @BuddhaMaster84 Hmm, don't see it myself.

  • @BuddhaMaster84 I think he looks more like Dimitri from Anastasia

  • @LordDeraj Thats what i think !! :D

  • This game was so freakin good. I can't believe it was made in 1996

  • a loved this game when a was a kid :)

  • brilliant game and story

  • yeahh before minute i end this game ! great adventure game ! the best adventure game after simon the sorcerer

  • id pick owen wilson or ...the guy from the mummy

  • This game, this trailer, this symbolises my youth. A youth now lost and gone forever and as I grow older, my love for this game and everything to do with it, will also grow. It brings back so many memories of a more vulnerable time, a more care-free time... now into adulthood, where there is nothing but pain, misery and eventually death... it's these treasures that you must, and that I cling too the most.

  • @W00ZIE666 I agree with everything you said. First played this game 13 years ago when I was 8 and I still love it to this day. As I grow older I always make sure I have a copy of broken sword 1 & 2 with me. It is familiar and comforting in an often harsh and unpredictable world. Something comes along like Broken Sword every so often to remind us not to die yet. It is one of those things that give value to survival. I will always carry this game in my heart until my dying day.

  • Just started playing this game...it's really brilliant!

  • the greatest game of all time!

  • Brilliant game

  • i remember this trailer from 15 years ago. I still haven't played it though.

  • Does anyone know who the narrator is??

  • @eoinroe47 The late, great Vincent Price, I believe.

  • @KJGould Thanks, are you sure, there's nothing to link him to it anywhere.

Casey Affleck would be ideal to play George Stobbart i think. If I were in charge of casting I would put everything i own on it. You heard it here first!!

  • @eoinroe47 I would pick Aaron Eckhart myself.

  • @KJGould Yes Aaron Eckhart really looks like Stobbart. Also they need to cast some french actors. I can't imagine Rosso or Nico without a french accent. Jean Reno could be a good Rosso even if it will be a lot like his character in DaVinci Code.

  • @KingTeDdY62 Maybe a European actor, not necessarily French. For Rosso how about Giancarlo Giannini? For Nico perhaps Marion Cotillard?

  • @KJGould Well yeah Giannini can be a good Rosso, but I'd like him to have a french accent, like in the game.

    Marion Cotillard? Why not ;)

  • @KJGould Vincent Price died in 1993, but it does sound like him.

  • @jonnyheadshot Good catch. I'm not sure then. I mean the game came out in 1996, but I doubt it took over 3 years to make.

  • @KJGould Vincent Price died in 1993, but it does sound like him.

  • The voiceover guy is Barry Clayton he was the narrator in cult classic kids show Count Duckula and use to always end an episode with;

"Good night out there...whatever you are"

  • @rl1712 Ah yes! I remember that voice from Count Duckula lol

  • Trailer is so good I'd play the game again, lol

  • Aaaaah ^^

    Awesomeness right here!

Played this on a demo on PS, then later bought the 2nd one and finally the 1st :D

    Love this kindofa game

  • When computer adventure games reached their heights...

    Beautiful memories.

I hope the game creators will start making good adventure games again one day.

  • ILLUMINATI GAME!

  • best adventure ever

  • I luved this game wen i was a kid gr8 story to it, Excellent game a use to play it on the ps1 lol quite a few year back now lol dont seem like it tho :)

  • My favourite game ever.

  • I have the gameboy advance version.

Not as good as the pc but still a fun adventure game.

  • So awesome! Broken Sword never get old!

  • Just saw that Broken Sword 2 and 3 are available on DotEmu for download, in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German.

  • Great game.

  • I still remember this trailer from back in the day, must have been one of the first game trailers I ever saw. The trailer voice is awesome.

  • I usually dont play games but this one is outstanding for me!

  • do's anyone know how to get past the goat

  • @rich23007 You need to click on the left side and then swiftly on the right one. This way, the goat gets to jump to one side, and when it tries to get you, her chain gets stuck on the scenery. It's kind of tricky but with that info, you should have no problem.

BTW, I was stuck on that darn goat part for over a year, when walkthroughs didn't exist, OMG.

  • @rich23007 your in the castle in Ireland right well its something to do with the plough in nex to the goat i cant remember how to do it though

  • BEST! GAME! EVER!

  • i got the trilogy these games r sooo cool lol

  • Finally completed it. I had only the cd1 for playstation. A friend of mine gave me, but he didn't have the second cd *Facepalm* ...

  • I'm playing it on the iphone right now but i played it on the psx... when i was young :'(

    Time flies...

  • They are relasing it to PC again.

  • @MokomaSusi So that it works on current operating systems?

  • Yes, i think it will be somewhat upgraded like they did with Nintendo Wii version but it will be pretty much same game..

  • @KJGould yea man. i bought the trilogy today for 6 quid!!!! can't wait to play them!!

  • @JOSmurder Cool, do you know where it's available? Is it a new re-release, or did you buy them all second hand? Thanks :)

  • @KJGould if you thinks thats good wait til you see the film

  • I played all 4 broken sword games but the first two were beautiful and i still remember them, i didn˙t like the new 3d look in the last 2 games

  • I vaguely remember this.

  • i guess i have played this game a long time before

  • the game is true!! its about new world order.

  • @dakidrick revolution software predicted everything lol

  • @jaylex666 ye becouse it was planned for centuries.

  • @dakidrick the barber next to me was telling me about this new world order today, kinda scary when u think about it

  • @jaylex666 ye i know. its going to happen in 2012 when the planets line up! lucifer will become like a man (he is the broken sword in which the game refers). 2012 is the reforging of "the sword" and used to slay Gods People!

  • @dakidrick I understood that the weapon was a weapon that channeled the earths powers and used to influence peoples minds (thus convert them) the idol they respected was Baphomet whom they saw as a covenant from god

  • @jaylex666 Correct! but i are deceived though becouse the baphmet is the idol of Lucifer who is the fallen Arc Angel. The Father of all Lies.

  • YES I FINALLY COMPLETED IT!!!!!

  • lol best game ever!

  • Classic game, shadowrobn play the game before you make a lame arse comment!

  • @ShadowRobn Because the Neo-Templars are after a broken sword. Play the fucking game.

  • And u are fuckin stupid ignorant ! die alone!

  • @lofassss Now now, let's not get into an internet argument. Even though ShadowRobn seems like a tool.

  • I had the Official Playstation Magazine CD that this video was on. I feel old.

  • Im downloading the game for my Ipod and if its half as good as Beneath the steel sky then this will be amazing.

  • you're in for a treat mate i loved beneath a steal sky and this game is equally epic!!!!!

  • yeah..this game is awesome...its a very long good story...thumbs up LOL...

  • I'm replaying it now, it's just awesome.

  • The story of Broken sword The Shadow of the Templars is THE BEST OFF ALL GAMES period, there is nothing else to say, also the graphics for the time were awesome and the voices are perfect this game is a masterpiece.

  • Broken Sword 1 is the greatest videogame of all time. I still find the graphics amazing and I love the story, gameplay, voice acting and soundtrack. I have played 4 versions of this and I think the PC version is better than the rest. The motion control puzzles and extra chapters on the Wii version were a nice addition but for some reason a lot of the original dialogue is missing and the graphics (not including the comic book style character close ups when talking occurs) seem less impressive. ?

  • is this the first of the series ? it looks good i might buy it

  • Just spent the past few days reliving the adventures of George Stobbart... Double B, double T! LOL! Spent the past 3 or 4 days straight playing Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2. Such awesome games, always nice to play them again after all these years! For such an old game, they have such complex and gripping storylines! I never noticed how awesome the storylines are when I was little and I first played them!

    AMAZING!

Can't wait for the English voiced for Broken Sword 2.5 now!

  • This is just so epic, love it! :D

now where did i put that game...

  • the greate adventure graphic ever created!

  • Whoever does the voice is good; He gave me chills at the end.

  • miss this fucking game so much...classic...games not the same anymore

  • Does someone know, where the melodie is taken from? 'cause this tune is not in the game! And, does someone know, where to get this melodie?

I love this trailer! The voice is sooooo cool!

  • @EmCea1

The voice belongs to Vincent Price, one of the most famous actors in horror movie history ... by the way he also was featured in Michael Jackson's Thriller
