  • Wow - power is right! Huge bump in viewers from Stumbleupon... do you know if I can track back through stumbleupon and see where the clicks were coming from?

  • Howdy everyone from Stumbleupon!

  • You know, I've noticed something very odd about our schooling system (considering I am still a part of it). I feel like a sheep, herded from classroom to classroom. We are systematically taught, in large groups with little attention to individual needs. When the bell rings, we go to our next class almost instinctively. In the end, most teachers don't care if you got an A or a C, they are being our Shepard. That and the teaching by the textbook doesn't do much to help ME understand info

  • Yes, good observation! This setup was a handy once upon a time, when training young people for manufacturing jobs was highly desirable. The needs of our nation have changed but many of our schools haven't. Where once the 'sheep' mentality was useful, now we need creativity and skepticism and synthesis.

  • I wish i could get more education on this and other things but it all costs too much money. At the end of the day thats the root of alot of education problems. the people with the most money get the education they want. while the poor or middle class get the minimum education to work in an office or factory.

  • One of the core issues with the type of information that I talk about in this video is that if you don't have access to it then you are cut out of the dialog. I am fortunate to own a $1500 computer with fiber optic internet access. School funding for technology is a massive line item that often gets cut back.

I also think that you don't need an independent school education to thrive in this environment. With a decent computer and some creativity and boldness quite a lot is possible.

  • education should be free like cuba!!!!!!! so any one can go to school

  • Yes! And make it _good_ education too!

  • shopping actualy D:

  • *grin* well, even shopping can be activism!

  • Great Youtube Video...5 stars.

  • good stuff to think about never really thought too much into this stuff!

  • You're right! I'm curious about how education will change to meet these challenges. It's been a pretty slow institution to change really.

  • Who is the guy with a British accent who was talking about creativity? Thanks.

  • That's Ken Robinson. The footage was from a TED lecture he gave. Click 'more' in the 'About this video' box to the top right to find the link to his complete lecture.

  • Thanks folks, I appreciate your views, comments and faves!
