Who's the fake child Marcia? Is it Leah Ayres as a child? Looks like Suzanne "Tracey Partridge" Crough. She also looks the same age as Eve Plumb looked back in Oct. '68 when the season 1 intro was filmed. Why didn't the producers find a different child actress who looked 12 or 13?
idk if anyone agrees but the bradys sucked all because of a fake marcia. they should of had maureen come back even though she was pregnant and they could of had her character be pregnant with their 3rd child.
@bearchewtoy75 Oh! So that's when this later version of The Brady Bunch came out. 1988 when they made their Christmas movie of "A Very Brady Christmas".
all these comments about " fake marcia" good lord how many of you remember the variaty show in the 70s everybody came back but eve so they had to get a new jan?
I don't know why, but it really bothers me that they got a girl that didn't look anything like Maureen McCormick to be young Marcia in the opening credits.
@kachoo2135 I don't think they intended to, as during the entire month the show was on, none of the episodes won the time slot against Full House and Family Matters on ABC.
Since Leah Ayres instead of Maureen McCormick was in The Bradys and since The Bradys was a drama instead of a comedy and since Marcia Brady was portrayed as an alcoholic in the drama as well, mayby they should call it The Phony Marcia Saga.
It completely escaped me, but yesterday (2/9/2010) marked 20 years since this show premiered on CBS. And it's largely forgotten today by the majority of the public. How time flies...
I was in 7th grade was this was on watched it every friday. I thought it was a good show. It was up against Family Matters and the rest of TGIF.Should be on DVD.If it's ever released i hope they don't used the theme the mom song. It's sounds so bad.
Here's the story of the family Brady, a mom and dad with all their children grown. Our kids are now pursuing their dreams, with families of their own. When our kids where small their problems all were smaller. As they changed, so did their point of view. The world has taken on a larger meaning, since the family grew. The Bradys, oh, The Bradys, that's how The Brady Bunch became The Bradys!
WHAT?! Maureen Mccormick didn't play herself in this made for tv special? I remember watching it when it came on, but I never noticed the original Marcia was on hyatus.
@GatorsNation she was pregnant at the time of the bradys thats why she didnt feel like doing it. but i dont know if you agree but it messes up the whole show. with a different actress playing marcia.
Oh I can defenitley agree. Why couldn't they have just waited or written that into that story? I'm in a current discussion battle over the replacement of the Ghostbusters. A 3rd film is in the works with new characters replacing the originals. Please understand. Thats new "characters" replacing originals, so theres no more Ray, Peter, Winston, or Egon. Thats like the last Indian Jones. I know Harrison is aging, but is it gonna be The Adventures of Mutt Jones now? Come onnnnnnnnnn.
I had a passion for "The Brady Bunch" when they were on the air many years ago......& to this day I "STILL DO". When they briefly came back in 1981 with " The Brady Brides", I was happy to see the 9 original cast members reunited again...same for the 1990 mini-series. But now Robt. Reed is long deceased, & even if the remaining 8 surviving members were to come back with a new series today, "it just wouldn't be the same anymore". Ann B. Davis is now 83 years young!
And Ms. Davis is fully retired from acting now, as are some other members of the cast. Of all the reunions that aired over the years, I found the last one - The Bradys - to be the "creme de la creme." Sure, it was funny and sad at the same time, but at least they attempted to recapture the spirit of the original show. And it was a good schedule-filler for CBS at the time when that network was sorely lacking for good-quality shows (in 1989-90).
This looks like it came from the original airing! The pilot episode I have on DVD has Florence Henderson singing and a few different shots (Bobby kissing Martha Quinn and Jan and Philip's adopted daugher, for instance). Does this mean you have the original episodes? All 6? Could you post them, please? I'm dying to see the last 4!
That's correct - this was from the original air date of 2/16/1990. The episode was "A Moving Experience." And said episode was the only one that used this particular musical arrangement with sax. The last four episodes use a different theme with electric guitar. The pilot (2/9/1990) does indeed use the Florence-sung theme, which I think is the best rendition of the three this series used.
Unfortunately, the last four shows used a laugh track(!) when producers realized the series was tanking.
The Complete Series of "The Brady Bunch," which comes in a green shag carpet box, has this pilot, along with "A Very Brady Christmas" and two episodes of the atrocious "The Brady Kids."
georgelee43211 , I agree I liked the Brady Bunch and the different reunion movies..but this attempt at as a Drama show just failed. The Brady Bunch is not a drama show it is a comedy show. it's suposed to be funny not serious. The Bradys...and The Brady Bunch Variety Hour failed.
I just discovered something else as well: The Bradys originally aired at 8:00 pm Friday nights on CBS, replacing Beauty and the Beast. After the failure of The Bradys, something else happened. Every show that the network put on at the 8:00 slot for the next 15 years failed. Remember duds like Bagdad Cafe, The Golden Palace, The Fugitive (2000), and Joan of Arcadia? Most likely not. It wasn't until the debut of Ghost Whisperer in 2005 that CBS finally broke the streak.
Barry Williams mentioned in "Growing up Brady" that the producers wanted The Brady's to air at 8:00 on Friday nights just like the original show did in the 70's. But the cast thought that was a mistake because it would be going up against TGIF shows which were HUGE in the 90's.

I think it start to "broke the streak" before Ghost Whisperer, when CBS debut NCIS. Now NCIS is the number #1 drama and NCIS: Los Angeles are both doing very well in the Tuesday time slot.
You are correct, but NCIS actually premiered on a Tuesday - September 23, 2003. NCIS has always been shown on Tuesday nights, not Fridays. In my previous posts, I was referring to the bad luck CBS once had on Friday nights, as the 8:00 time slot that The Bradys and Ghost Whisperer had was once that of beloved shows such as The Wild Wild West, Family Affair, and The Dukes of Hazzard.
Why did they use another image for Marcia in the beginning at 0:02 , that little girls is not her. They messed it up, I don't know why they didn't just show how it is suposed to look instead of changing it and puting another Marcia. Did Maureen not want them to show her from the original intro or what?
The picture of young Marcia in the beginning is that of Leah Ayres (Maureen's replacement for this series) as a little girl. Since Maureen was not playing Marcia this time, the producers had to revise the original 1969 opening to include Leah's caption. That's just my hunch. The rest of the cast is exactly the same as they appeared in '69.
Also, Maureen may not have wanted them to use her caption for the show, hence the change. I will say this though: Leah was cute when she was younger!
After "A Very Brady Christmas" she decided she wanted to get away from playing Marcia and decided not to participate in the Bradys, which is why there is a "Fake Marcia" in the Bradys. The only time that the whole cast reunited in its entirely was for the "Brady Girls Get Married". Eve Plumb backed out of the Variety Hour and Susan Olsen was on her honeymoon when they were shooting a Very Brady Christmas, which is why they used a Fake Jan and Fake Cindy for those two productions.
Actually, she had already given birth, and had in fact given birth so recently before she heard about the series, that she wasn't ready to work on anything unless she felt it was special. That, and she thought the script sucked lol She wrote about this in her book Here's the Story.
Well, Schwartz still didn't want him around, HAD "THE BRADYS" had been renewed for another season, 'alwig': that's what I meant. Either way, the series would have been doomed....
Originally, "THE BRADYS" was supposed to be a series of three consecutive TV movies, but CBS, desparate for ANY kind of ratings success in 1990, insisted that Sherwood Schwartz convert them into a weekly hour-long series. Six episodes later, it was over. Had it succeded, Schwartz claimed he would have killed Mike Brady off in the seventh episode because Robert Reed just didn't want to play him anymore (as Sherwood had enough of his griping and "memos").
there was a dvd set of the complete series of the brady bunch released. it had the brady 500 on it and the very brady christmas special on it. you might want to check amazon for it.
Thanx so much (nodoubtisgood)I do have a copy of "A very brady xmas + season 1-2 of brady bunch but would be great to have the whole package...Thanx again from down under..
Actually Sherwood was considering killing off Mike Brady if The Brady Bunch was renewed for a sixth season. The memo that may have put that thought into his head concerned the final episode when Bobby buys into a money-making scheme involving hair tonic; you know, the stuff that turned Greg's hair orange. Robert Reed refused to appear in the episode! Can't say as I blame him; it was pretty bad. Still, he shouldn't have been "out of town on business" during his eldest son's HS graduation.
Heres the story, of the family Brady, a mom and dad with all their children grown. Our kids are now pursuing their dreams, with families of their own. When our kids were small, their problems all were smaller. As they changed, so did their point of view. The World has taken on a larger meaning, Since the family grew. The Bradys! Oh, the Bradys!
