  • So much pain. So much love.

  • I agree with the person below...he is very talented..I just discovered him. Check him out doing Hallelujah. Heartbk Hotel was one of my favs since I was a kid. He put a different spin on it..very dramatic. I personally like the typical bluesy version...this is just a matter of personal taste. However, he gave it that smokey, speak-easy, type of feel.

  • Take a walk down lonely street.....

  • thank you John

    For all of it

  • I saw him do this live in DC...82'

  • He is really feeling the lyrics and suffering

  • He paces it so well. The run from the dissonant end of the solo, to the a capaella last verse to the final climax is perfect. He even made the bum note he sang in the first chorus seem like it belonged :) That's what I call feel!

  • I wonder why he has never released a cd of a solo-performance (afaik)

  • Yes he did. In 1992 he released Fragments Of A Rainy Season, a solo concert in Bruxelles. It´s also avaliable as dvd. Hallelujah posted by dekkersj is from that gig.

  • Thanks! I got it today (cd)!

  • Just randomly wandered into this. I'd never heard of John Cale really, before this. I have to say INCREDIBLE! He takes something pop and inconsequential and makes it into poetry and performance art. Thanks for posting this!

  • @KnightBiologist

you're a fucking douchebag, elvis version being inconsequential is the biggest piece of shit since teenie boopers think the jonas brothers can play guitar.

elvis version inspired many of the greatest musicians of all time to start their career, john lennon, george harrison, keith richards, roger mcquinn, bob dylan, cher and many many more.

  • @OropherThranduil Okay. You make a good point about Elvis' influence on music and musicians. I didn't mean to offend... I agree with your assessment of the Jonas Brothers and would add, "...or that Justin Bieber can sing"

Have a good day and keep on rockin' ;-)

  • @KnightBiologist

you too dude, and damn, hannah montana can't sing worth shit either, and sorry for the douche, but that comment kinda sounded like some VU fan bashing succesfull artists (it happens much too often).

  • Nobody does this song better than John Cale.

  • That's a Fender...

  • Great piano! Don't listen if you got a broken heart though..

  • John Cale, lou reed, nico in NY- Kevin Ayers and brian Eno in europe with the Beatles in UK- they changed it all 4 us

  • Inspireing!

  • Of course I meant "unbelievably" - does anybody

    have that video?

    14. Rockpalast Night 13.-14. Oktober 1984

Huey Lewis, Chalice, Level 42 and John Cale.

  • Still gives me a chill, more than 25 years after I first heard Cale's version of this. Ironically, I started listening to him because I was confusing him with J.J. Cale

  • It comes close to a legendary performace on the german show "Rockpalast" (palace of rock) in 1984, where he crawled under his piano and ripped away the carpet. He was unbelievablably.

  • Yeah I got it. I ´ve also uploaded other tracks from that show in combination with the 83 RP gig. Also have a look at Guts, Waiting For The Man, Streets Of Laredo, Fear and Cable Hogue. They are all pretty awesome too.

  • The ultimate peformance of the best Elvis Presley song!

  • :`(

    lovely

  • Thank you very much for uploading this! Exquisite

  • what a great way to do this song, as the other said, what a genius, but more so then genius, that is some soul.,.. That's what music is about, Peace

  • A REAL genius.
