@mischnix yes you are right demolition was the best thing for Pruitt Igoe. I lived there for 15 years and it was a nightmare. No other project's in America can match the nightmare of pruitt Igoe. It would make a hell of a movie. Thank's for haveing sympathy for those of us that had to live there.
@MoaiMaea An implosion is defined as a sudden inward collapse. That is the method that demolition experts use when destroying buildings. As opposed to an explosion, in which material is flung outward.
Yeah I know but in addition an imploding object gets destroyed by a difference in the pressure ratio. It collapses because the pressure on the outside is bigger than on the inside, doesn't it? All this video shows is a building which's pillars are destroyed and which then cannot hold its own weight any longer and thus comes down. I don't understand how this can be called an implosion ...
Strictly speaking, an implosion would be what happens to a diving bell if it goes too deep. The surrounding water crushes it inward.
So-called "building implosions" are actually explosions of dynamite or other charges. The overall result is the building collapses inward. That is somewhat imprecisely referred to as an implosion.
But of course the dynamite charges themselves did not actually "implode." They exploded.
It's so sad to see that they have been demolished.

It is a explosion, nor a implosion. It's just a simple collapse

The best thing that ever happened to these horrible buildings. I feel sorry for all the people who ever had to live there.

@MoaiMaea
I agree. I think the term "controlled demolition" is far less misleading about the actual mechanics involved.

You have a point.
