The ruling doesn't allow "anyone to carry a gun". The statutes strucken down in 2008 and 2010 only guarantee the right to own and handgun and keep it in the home. States and local government can still regulate carry in public. Seriously gun control laws only stop law-abiding citizens from owning guns. Criminals, who mostly get their guns illegally anyway, are unaffected.

i have lived in Texas all my life. the city i live in has one of the highest number of concealed handgun license possessors. in the 22 years i have been here i can only recall two times i ever heard of violent crime in this city. DC has seen more than 8000 homicides in the last 32 years. this is proof that gun control does not work. it only gives criminals the upper hand. if you were a criminal... would you commit crime were you know a vast majority of the people carry guns. wake up people!

It's not gun violence. It's violent people, gang members, drug dealers, robbers, and they choose to use guns. This decision allows normal, law abiding people to also have a gun in their home. To say that more handguns will only lead to more handgun violence, just means Fenty believes that law abiding people are only law abiding because they do not have a gun. The ruling doesn't allow "anyone to carry a gun". The statutes strucken down in 2008 and 2010 only guarantee the right to own and handgun and keep it in the home. States and local government can still regulate carry in public. Seriously gun control laws only stop law-abiding citizens from owning guns. Criminals, who mostly get their guns illegally anyway, are unaffected.

Its sickening that a 5-4 decision is over the 2nd amendment. The Constitution explicitly states that the right is for the people, the founders already knows what happened when the gov got to much power with guns. The only gun control should be for federal agents, their guns should be restricted.

Funny how a ban on handguns lead to your city having the highest gun violence in the US. Laws do not prevent crime. Speed Limits do not keep people from speeding. Do you honestly think that a gun free zone is going to prevent shootings? If you are willing to commit the greater crime. You will most defenantly be willing to commit the lesser crime. I would if I could afford their stuff. I no longer call states who restrict firearms, restricted states. I now call them infringment states. The media is all's asking how they got the guns. They never ask why in the hell was that place disarmed. It's the reality of the world. Criminals get their stuff by any and all means. Why do we allow them the upper hand. Don't you think that he would at least have a chance of living because he had the means to defend himself? And your son probably was shot when the handgun ban was still in effect, which shows the meaningless of the ban.Taking away guns will just lead to more deaths. More guns equal less crime.

@mrfelix510 - and look at Britain, where gun and knife violence has skyrocketed since both guns and knives have been banned. Britain has 130,000 knife attacks every year (basically the worse statistics of any country), and yet carrying a knife of any kind in Britain is illegal. Go figure.

People were killing each other long before guns came along, and they'll be killing each other long after their gone. It makes no difference what the weapon is, the point is, guns don't kill people, people kill people. There are just too many people crammed into confined spaces like cities, it's going to happen more frequently, taking guns away will make no difference. If criminals want the guns, they will get them regardless of the consequences.

i have lived in Texas all my life. the city i live in has one of the highest number of concealed handgun license possessors. in the 22 years i have been here i can only recall two times i ever heard of violent crime in this city. DC has seen more than 8000 homicides in the last 32 years. this is proof that gun control does not work. it only gives criminals the upper hand. if you were a criminal... would you commit crime were you know a vast majority of the people carry guns. wake up people!

This may or may not be true for you but those shootouts in DC are between criminals who diserve to die. They get guns illigaly and will continue to do so even if a "no guns law" is passed, so why not help even the odds by letting the law abiding people of the country arm themselfs for protection.

The police take too long to respond to an emergency inwhich a person could be killed in seconds. an intruder can reach you anywhere in your house on average in 30 seconds. thats not even enough time to call 911. now i can see that we will probably never agree on this issue so lets leave it at that. ill have my guns and you can live without them. that is why our country is so great cause we can choose how we want to live.
