Come across this watching engineering vids. What a load of pretentious nonsense. What drugs are you on, this is not art. It's no more art than the crumpled up post-it note I just threw away is. My father is an artist and I've known artists, stuff like this is a joke. It's more philosophical than anything and your statement is more interesting than the vid. I'm sorry if it offends but a line has to be drawn for what counts as actual art rather than just someone being philosophically expressive
This is you tube, a forum for experimentation. At this point Im more interested in being philosophically expressive then creating a great work of art. That being said, I have to agree with josephhohs comment, The idea is not sufficiently pushed to express the artist statement.
Interesting experiment. The idea though to me is not sufficiently pushed to express your artist statement. 1. due to the seemingly random rotation. I think the mechanical aspects of the gears (e.g. in rotation/motion) should be pushed to eliminate from the viewer any idiosyntricity and
2. let gelatin slowly subvert the mechanical. This would then highlight the natural process of proprioception. Just a thought...
Some of my other videos are better examples of my statement. In Soft Gear, the straightforward intent to rotate is frustrated by the gears inherent resistance. I did indulge in a little extra jiggle.
? you don't know what it feels like to be an animal? are you a robot? Not that these aren't cool and everything, but i fail to see the purpose of this particular invention....
I use gelatin as a substitute for body muscle and fat. The jiggle motion provides an animated view of a mechanical system (gears) not found in the animal world. The gear teeth distort in response to the force exhorted upon them. The stress is visible. Empathy with this detailed illustration of mechanical force brings awareness of what it feels like to be an animal.
How? Well it's a concept "Organic Gear" being portrayed visually. WTF? Some of the best art is there to make you say wtf? and maybe set you off in thinking of something new and interesting yourself.
it's not alive. if you mean the gear material then well okay but the hubs are metal. And to what purpose? At least they have clocks with wooden "organic" gears as you say. There are actually clocks built almost completely of wood with just a few small metal parts.
Jell-o is made from protein, and protein has carbon in it, so Jell-o is organic. You referring to the "organic" that people have been using lately to mean grown without pesticides?
Dude, organic = there's carbon in it. Since diamonds are pure carbon with a very high density acheived by applying heat and pressure, I guess they are organic.....
Nice try. Pure carbon is not organic. Organic requires it to be a *compound* of carbon, not just the element itself purified. You were half right. Pat yourself on the back for trying to impress us.
I haven't had chemistry in 3 years.... and I feel really stupid now =) But thanks for enlightening me - I always like to learn something new............or be remembered of something, cheers ;D
WOW! I am confused! Why was this featured? It is a lame video, with no explination what-so-ever. I am truly confused. Baffled even! Hell my one and only video is stupid, but far more entertaining. CONFUSED!

Is this CLOCK WORK device used in Human experimentation?

Is this organic windmill clock work used for human experimentation? It brings me back to thinking of CLOCK WORK

Just a short side note, gelatin is no more organic than plastic.

@reason245 I'm sorry if this offends but you're a moron and know nothing about art if you think only art can be drawn.
Duckman1616 1 year ago
@Duckman1616 Have I ever said that, no?? Of course art doesn't have to be drawn.
Can't even remember commenting on this to be honest and it does sound a little harsh reading what I'd put. Must of been in a bad mood.
Still stand by the essence of what I said though. It's a nice experimentation of an idea but not art.
