Well, I couldn't agree more about your recent comments regarding the MGM Movie of The Wizard of Oz. So many factors came together at that one time and place, it's hard to imagine any other attempt could equal it. I know for me, it will always be "The" version of the film. Like your first kiss..never forgotten and never surpasssed. ; ) hahaha Brian.
@ASAngelo I know this may be "sacriligeous" to say I liked the Movie better than the book-but I did! The movie changed my life. It went inside of me and left a permanent impression. The music, the actors, the characters..
-The book was just a thin skeleton outline of the story. With all due respects to L.Frank Baum, of course. He started the ball rolling. But it was the Golden Age of Hollywood and the big studious that turned it into a Classic and a work of lasting Art! Bri. : )
It just annoys me that people want to cling to this one version of Oz when there is so much else out there, the books and other adaptations and interpretations. (Not that these fans are bad people. The ones I've come across are very courteous.) Like I said, I don't hate this movie, and I don't think it's a bad movie, but I just don't have any special love for it.
As for me, I've gotten very annoyed when I talk to an Oz fan, and all they want to talk about is the MGM movie, when there are so many other topics that could be covered. It even gets irritating when someone tells me they got a new "Oz book," and I inquire, only to discover that it is in fact a biography or autobiography of one of the cast members. (I'd call this an Oz reference book, though it's not one I'd usually turn to.)
I'm not a huge fan of the MGM movie I do like the MGM movie, but it's not the ULTIMATE OZ for me. I am still collecting Books of Wonder and Dover editions of Baum's books, as these are the most collectible editions in print, and by the time I go to 2011 winkies I will have a rather large collection of Oz DVDs and VHS tapes, but I actually am reading the books and watch the movies alot.
Some interpretations of this tend to be a bit syrupy, a bit sentimental but not yours. Your improvisation brought depth to the work whilst still keeping the amazing melody.
It is hard to find words to describe what I experienced while I listened to and watched you dramatize this beloved song. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and will continue to do so . Thank you for it. I am proud of you son, Your Mama
My boyfriend says your hands are like waves. Thought you'd appreciate that compliment. Amazing bro. I love you. I've never enjoyed that song so much in my life.
This brought back some sweet memories of a certain song I still have on my mp3 player - which surprises and delights me whenever I tumble upon it every now and then!! :)
I know you understand words are sometimes unable to express adequately at times - so I will say, 'beautiful' and trust you understand what I mean ....:)
From one who spends a lot of time living over that rainbow....
i think this was in my key...i was singing along, but it turned out to be a comedy piece, coz everytime u went offt to do your fancey playing, i just turned and looked at u and gave u the eveil eye and tried to pick up where i stopped, needless to say the audiance loved it. here do we tour next?
Your flourish starting at 2:50 was so refreshing. Like taking a dip under a waterfall in a mountain stream! Dear Angelo, out of all of the melodies in the World, if I had to choose five favorites, this would surely be one of them. "Somewhere over the Rainbow", has been an anthem for my life. A rallying point during times of trouble or despair. Thank-you for playing this Classic song with the sincerity and feeling which it deserves. Bravo! Bri.
Hermoso..
Felicitaciones Angelo!
