is the Zune HD similar to the iPod Touch in the sense that if you lock the screen, the music still plays? Also, does the Zune HD ever turn off while in lock mode? I like how the iPod Touch stays on forever while locked.. i don't like turning devices on and off every time i want to use them

@asdfasdfsdfsd Yes, when you lock it by pressing the power button, it keeps playing music. As far as I know, it will keep playing forever (until the battery dies) if you have your music set to repeat.

Currently considering buying the Zune HD. Your videos are a really big help in helping me make my decision. Too bad that there's no built-in speaker or voice recorder ability, and the number of apps available are certainly limited. I'm guessing that Microsoft is planning to add more apps in the future? Navigation seems to be easy, and the touch-screen appears to be sensitive.

I don't yet have my zune hd, but everything I've read concerning the difficulty it is to put the dvd's I've already bought onto the zune device is starting to make me worry. Maybe a video on how to easily (and cheaply!) go from having a dvd movie to getting it onto the zune hd would be nice. I know that the zune is compatible with a larger variety of video formats, but it seems that it still is hard to get my collection of dvd's to go on the computer in one of the formats compatible with zune.

There are thousands of how-to guides online though - you should have no trouble finding out how to do it. :-)

The iPod Touch can't either, not through the browser. The iPod Touch has a YouTube app, and it can only access h.264 content, not Flash content. So the iPod Touch has the same weakness; it's just that it has an app to make up for it. :-)

Jason, at like 5:30 in your video, you mention you used the zune preset on anydvdmobile to rip your xmen dvd. I have subscriptions to both anydvd and anydvd mobile, but I don't know how to change the resolution on the zune preset to 480x272. The PSP preset, for example does have a 480x272 option, but the output for a full length movie is around 500 mb and probably has inferior quality to what a zune preset could produce. Could you shed some light? How did you convert your movie? Thanks a ton!

There's an .ini file that you can edit to create custom ripping/encoding profiles. Check out the Slysoft forums for details - I created a custom h.264 profile a while ago. I wish they had a real Zune HD profile though.

Looks like I was wrong - in looking at the .ini file, I never created a Zune HD profile. I likely just used the Zune MP4 profile even though it's not configured to offer an ideal resolution. Sadly, there's really not much support for the Zune HD out there from DVD ripping programs. I'm sure if you posted to the Slysoft forums you could find some other like-minded individuals to help you craft a Zune HD profile.

Zune Marketplace music is 256kbps and higher - just as good as iTunes. Battery life is 33 hours for music, 8.5 hours for video.

Unknown. Animated GIFs died out with the blink HTML tag in my book. ;-) As far as I know, even if it handles animated GIFs - which I think it does - there's no way to save the images.

Nope. Do you really think Apple would allow that? ;-) The Zune can play non-DRM'd AAC files though, so if you buy songs from iTunes that are DRM-free (which I think they all are now), you can play them on the Zune. You'll need to use the Zune software to load up the Zune though.

That's not correct iPerson2009. iTunes only protects songs that have DRM attached to them...and at this point in time, nearly all (or perhaps even all) of the songs sold in iTunes are now DRM-free and can be played in by the Zune HD.
