He used to skate. I can understand how he became a good drummer already. If you really try skateboarding, you start to adopt a principle to everything you want to do, and that's to practice until it's 2nd nature. It's very practical but a lot of people think if they don't have the skill already that they shouldn't even try. Kindof disappointing that people are like that. Too many humans limit themselves to just being "normal" because they forget that they are equally capable of earning skills.

The more I play drums, yes chops are important, but after a while your favorite chops become ingrained into your brain and hardwired where it becomes your own style and who you are. The advice I can give is never stop trying to learn something new, never close your mind to different styles. When ever I solo, I try my best to stay within the melody of the song we are playing, but over all I let loose and breath while I'm playing. It's fun because you never know what kind of solo you'll play.
