@ZanesSuccessor i think the problem is that this sound just isn't what you're going for... if you didn't notice, the sound he was getting was VERY bass-heavy. if you're not into that kind of sound, than this amp isn't for you. it's meant to model the sound of a REAL marshall and it does the job well. i have an MG and a JVM to compare it to. if you don't like this amp, you wouldn't like a real Marshall, and you need to look at a different brand all together.

@ZanesSuccessor well one thing i've noticed is the speaker is fairly volume-sensitive. it acts very much like a tube amp... the gain gets a lot more prominent the more you turn it up (it never gets digital like a Line 6, though.) what volume level are you playing at?

@ZanesSuccessor i'm not too sure if that EQ would get you very far... especially not with a mahogany guitar. but yeah try it cranked a bit... the speaker needs to open up. i suggest cranking the treble moderately, and rolling off the bass. also use the mids a bit. the marshall tone is in the midrange imo.

take that mic away then play through it on it's own. It'll sound totally different.

@FilGee100 would you rather hear it from a vocal mic straight into a mixer? or a camera mic that is sensitive to direction that would change the tone completely if you moved it by 2 feet?

there is no way to get around it... you're gonna need A MICROPHONE to record the sound. if you want to put it on youtube. and a vocal mic (which i'm sure is put right into a mixer with no coloring)

Your right if you just recorded the sound from the MG30 directly using the camera mic it still would'nt sound the same as the amp. So i guess that this video or any other could depict the actual sound of this amp because of the whatever mic being used to record it would change the tone. And then there's the type of guitar & pickups,Leads the room and so on. Man my brain hurts now :)

@FilGee100 yeah, lol. there are a few miss that are made specifically to not color the tone any, but they're expensive. if i ever do a review of my MG (which i might if i get around to it), i'll use that mic (my dad uses it to calibrate a mixer board noise gate)

I have one of these and i think it sounds muddy and has a wierd high-treble peak. Is it broken? And its not because of me, i have tried it with every possible combination of every knob/setting. Also with 5 different guitars (LP, ibanes rg & s, strat, tele) and 3 pedals (ts9, grey dod250, and digital modeling) and it wont sound good :,(

@infectionsman this is a very bass-heavy amp... every Marshall i've ever played has been. that's the Marshall sound for you. LOTS of bass and midrange. what i do is roll the bass off and crank the midrange and dime the treble. i'm using an RG and it sounds great for practice. now i do have a fulltone OCD (used like a TS9) but that's a marginal difference in sound.

@TheMetalHeaD256 I cant say that the real marshall stacks i have heard are particularly base-heavy: 87x, DSL and plexis, i think they are kinda trebly. But yeah i tried my MG with my RG and the ts-9 and it sounded crap no matter what setting i used. And the thing is, i could make an other 50 dollar practice amp i had lying around sound like God with that rig.

@infectionsman well every JVM i've heard has too much bass. this is the EQ i use... bass: 10 o'clock, middle: 3 o'clock, treble: damn near dimed. gives a really heavy tone on OD2. use your TS9 to boost it that much more (i use an OCD for that purpose).

i think you just don't like the type of tone this thing models... it's going for more of a JCM/JVM sound. those are the only two real Marshalls i've ever played and this copies em pretty accurately IMO.

@preplulu from my point of view, you shouldnt even think about having a line 6 xD its a matter of taste but for me, marshall amps have a much more versatile style of distortion without taking the grate tone away, a much more musical overdrive and clean channel. cheers! ;)

@HMProdcutions All the DFX amps were the first line of the MG series, the FX is a latest line in the series. The FX series has different effects and a memory store mode for different tones. Just look at the DFX manual and the FX manual, you will see the difference in the front panel :). Hope this helped!

@cyberdod11 hmm... well if you're looking for Mesa gain, this isn't the amp for you. but i've gotten some really heavy tones out of it IMO and i didn't max the gain out. i use the OD2 channel for all of my metal riffing AND soloing. i keep my gain around 7 on that channel. at loud volumes, that'll sound a lot more distorted than it does in bedroom volumes. but if you expect Dimebag tone, look at a different amplifier. ...however if you want a good like Megadeth tone, this is perfect.

@cyberdod11 oh and if this helps any, i can tell you my EQ. i don't scoop it like most people... on the distorted channels, i turn the bass to about 4 or 5, the mids to about 7, and the treble is damn near dimed. this gives a really powerful tone that is intelligible and also cuts through like a hot sushi knife.

@salogeo ive had a couple of goes on this and i used to think it was brilliant. it makes an excellent distorted sound but the clean isnt amazing. if i were you i would look at paying an extra £30-£40 and getting a VOX Valvetronix or a Line 6 Spider. hope ive helped

If you like clean, sharp, crystal etc, go for a Fender 25R/15R

If you want the best of both worlds, but not as crunchy as a marshall, or as clean as a fender, a Spider is king.
