Sometimes it depends on where your opponent's hand is. If it's on your inside hip (closest to their body), an omoplata may be a better option. If their arm is bent the other way, the belly down armbar may be an easier transition.
Do you feel like the transition into the belly down armbar is a better option than locking up an omoplata after missing the initial armbar attempt?
