Normal 3dtvs need glasses, which some people might count as a step back, and the 3ds uses a special screen to get it 3d, thts why its only at one angle.

3d works with glasses, but again, you neeed a 3d tv.

Microsoft at least used their noggins are made sure the popular titles were backwards compatible but at the same time it wasn't for all of the games so if you had a personal fav game that didn't sell millions you cant play it. And while the PS3 60GB had the right idea it was only on selected few games. PS3s would of sold more if it was 100% backwards compatible

What Nintendo is obviously doing is trying to be unique. Create consoles and controls different from the same old. The problem with Nintendo is while they are certainly the most unique of the 3 companies they don't appeal to the right people. The people who buy video games often and are willing to throw down 300 dollars for a console are the bread and butter of your business. I don't see me playing any of those games, they're too "casual" for lack of a better term and not worth my time or money.
