I am continually fascinated by how Bjork reconstructs previous albums from tour to tour. This song is probably the best example. Listen to it with Matmos and Zeena Perkins, then with an accompanying orchestra and here. Simply exceptional!
Well said! I'm equally fascinated. One thing I love is how different beat instrumentation for this song sounds different between various performances/performance eras. The Vespertine one was much less controlled than this one... this one is closer to the video mix, and yet sounds noticeably different. It feels somewhat evocative of wood blocks...
she sings better in this video, but her singing this song in coachella 2003 or 2004 (whatever it was)is waaaaaayyyyy more beautiful than this version.check it out,it's on this site
this is beautiful.......... i saw bjork in concert last week in my country colombia and it was the best thing that i ever seen .......the only bad thing was that she didnt play all is full of love thanks for the video
This is definitely one of the most memorable performances that I remember @ coachella 07. I'll never forget the feeling I had as I was standing on one of the gate fences to get a really good look. The entire crowd was just so calm and receptive of her this song--how could you not be? Freakin' amazing!
This song is beautiful, its music is unbelieveable, simmply björk is the most incredible artist in the world & her voice defines the nicest feelings that couldn't be described
I have a question......is this perfomance on the Coachella DVD??? Cause I don't know if the DVD that's been sold is a mix or is just of 2007....and if it's not.....where can I GET THE HOLE bJORK PERFOMANCE OF BJORK THIS YEAR AT COACHELLA???...thanks !!!
as spiritual of a concert experience I will ever witness. I still get goosebumps thinking about this night, when everything felt right with Bjork on the stage
actually what's wrong with most independent artists is their lack of collaboration on music. almost all indie music is crap. what's great about bjork is that she brings in that icelandic touch, which means collaborating with great artists to create something new and original. Slowblow and Mum created a great album together.
i find it hard to dig her anymore, i have tried,i just find everything she does these days far too thought out, clever, contrived and richeous ,she is holding onto her ego so tightly but nobody who is an intelligent individual takes her seriously anymore. She would like to look at herself as alternative, but she has actually become a parasite on the pulse of freedom.
actually i do think she is the madonna of the electronic scene..and if you credit her "fierce individuality" you should also do so for the millions of other individuals her age and older who were part of the early 'electronic rave scene'..which is what 95% of her creative aesthetic is derived from. actually. .if you were also part of that scene you would know..
Okay...before we get into the "scene(ster)"-isms which you will lay out for us on the various "electronic rave scene" influences in Bjork's discography -- from Debut up to the present album -- since apparently myself and most of Bjork's fanbase is so ignorant and oblivious to...don't you think that that criticism is a bit unfair? (con't)
It's a bit like saying that Radiohead are still indebted to the post-grunge scene that they came out of just because they made "Creep", Pablo Honey and The Bends. (con't)
Loads of people were involved in Bjork's early records from the English rave scene. I've never seen her try to discredit anyone that she work with, nor have I heard of anyone accusing her of plagiarism. Perhaps you can enlighten us on this issue?
sure..when you use the term 'fierce individuality' it seems a bit 'much' i think..considering everyone is individual. what makes bjork so fierce in her individuality? especially since the sounds on her albums that present her "individual expression" are from other established electronic artists..i think your perception of individuality is unclear..
also..she doesn't have to be indebted to the electronic rave seen that she came out of because she never left it..she still taps into and utilizes its resources to the extreme..and has become a "POP STAR" by doing so. That doesn't seem so individual to me.She is a clever business woman..and 'individuality' can only be part of the marketing now that she is getting old and repetative..
Interesting response (and speaking of responses, this will be my last one)...I've noticed that you've chosen not to answer my question about who these artists are that Bjork is so closely linked to..even though you keep citing this scene she never left, yet haven't named a single artist/group/record label from this scene as an indictment against her...(con't)
You say that I am ignorant of this scene, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on this. I ask you to name names, and somehow the discussion goes to genre influences to "Oh, well, she's a smart businesswoman". It shows a lack of a sound argument,
really, switching he topic (and thus, the nature of the debate)...(con't)
I call Bjork a "fierce individual" because I also believe that individuality is something that has to be MAINTAINED, something that has to be fought for in this day and age. To have an idea about something that no one else has, to have others tell you it won't work, and to still strive for it -- isn't that what distinguishes the great musicians, artists, thinkers of our time from them mediocre ones?
And on top of that, to apply this idea to someone who considers herself a pop musician? No, she's not the only one to do this (I never said as much), but damn, have you seen the Billboard 200 lately? It's not exactly bustling with new and fresh ideas. In fact I believe the term most people would use is...stagnant, correct?
So, on that note, I'd like to say that while I don't mind agreeing to disagree, when someone says that "95% of [an artist's] creative aesthetic", as you put it, is based wholly on other musicians... as a fan, and as an aspiring musician, I would expect a more well-founded answer than one such as yours. Good day.
Go to a dance party and you will figure it all out..preferably an outdoor psychedelic trance party..they are not quite the same as they used to be 10yrs ago but you will still get an idea of whats what.. and you will meet many a "fierce individual" that you may find more interesting and orignal then miss 'wishiwasyoko'..bjork
LFO- MARK BELL, MATMOS,..COMPOSERS- VINCE MENDOZA, NELLE HOOPER..and too many collaborations (choirs, throat singers, instrumentalsits, beatboxers, etc etc) to make her original..she depends on upto sevral people to create a sound for an album..it is never 'entirely hers'..that is not original
my name is "bjork" and my new album will be recorded in the middle of the ocean underwater in a tank. it will be all about the saltwater that bind us together..human tides, rythmns, pulses etc. I will have the best producers and most unusual collaborators money can buy..and that will make me the most original , unique and creative female in the media
I am still on cloud nine after this concert!! The people I went with, later told me they had tears in thier eyes after this one, just as I did. It has renewed my interest in her and her music....YES she was the highlight of the Coachella weekend...and YES!! loss for words...it was SICK, AWESOME< MAGICAL...!!
I went to coachella sat and sun. I wouldve traded every act i saw just for the bjork performance. Im completely amazed that there are people out there who still DONT get this woman and her artistry... damn shame. She is the truth!

"Clever, Contrived and Richeous(??)"... are you sure you're not talking about Madonna?
I don't really see alot of egomania in Bjork's work. Unless by "ego" you mean "fierce individualism", which she does have. In spades.
