  • So why is this so bad?

  • LOL You're not jumping over garbage cans with a bike. You're jumping over a shark on nothing on a couple of little skis! One little slip and CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP

  • This is great: Free TV. (for the price of the internet connection, of course.)

  • how strange that as I am looking at all those hot girls they are, by now, old women. :-/

  • @xm377Moyocoyatzin wow man, deep

  • what a stupid shitty ass show

  • tsada ni xa oh...karaan kau ug music

  • I think "The Office" recently jumped the shark when Dwight grabbed Jim's penis.

  • Does Fonzie remind anyone else of Sam Rockwell?

  • Ayyy

  • If it wasn't for this scene we wouldn't have a name for when a show starts to suck.

  • @Jurassicparkz08 but then again Happy Days didn't start sucking with or anywhere soon after this episode.

  • aaayyyy!

  • That guy doing the jack Benny impression is actually pretty good.

  • Shut up, ginger! lolol

  • Dat bathing suit.

  • is he wearing a diaper?

  • and this is when it all went down hill

  • "Fire up the boat.. I'm jumpin' the shark!"

  • Fonz was just lucky that the sharks didn't have frickin lasers attached to their fricken heads

  • To this day when ever a show does something special to keep a show from being cancelled is now called " Jumping the Shark".

  • that was cool

  • Why was this show considered the "Show the ended Happy Days" as we know it.

What was so bad about this show ??? I thought it was pretty good !!!

  • Look I don't see how Happy Days has gotten so terrible after this episode. I love Happy Days, from the first episode to the last. Compared to tv shows now(Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, the Bachelor), Happy Days is one of those shows with great quality. I don't know what your definition of quality is, but Happy Days is a show about a family and town with great values, it's funny, and it can be emotional at times(Richie's coma). How can you get any more quality then that.

  • Fonz shouldn't have gotten personal satisfaction from beating internal demons.

He should have gotten personal stimulation from bagging those beach babes

  • This has got to be one of the worst episodes ever! The series was at it's prime when Fonzie wore t-shirt, not the leather jacket. The first 2 seasons were great. This is just awful!!

  • Suppose the Fonz backs down and decides not to jump - can he still lay claim to Al's toilets as his office?

  • @suprtzar1 It's a moot point. Because the FONZ NEVER BACKS DOWN. NEVER.

  • @brnleague99 Hence the infamy to this very day! :)

  • Pure awfulness. Now I see why they call it Jump the Shark.

  • he must be a "never nude", he has denim shorts on lol

  • worst moment in television history!

  • @hicast1 that was totally ripped off That so '70s Show

  • @MrAvery833 HAHA. Wow are you serious, That 70's Show ripped this off. Happy Days is much older than That 70's Show.

  • @VivaLaEquus i was talking about when hicast1 said "worst moment in tv history" ,not that scene i know fonz is older then that 70s show

  • @VivaLaEquus Happy Das was on from 1974 - 1984. That '70s Show was on from 1998 - 2006.

  • 6:50 totally saw boom mic

  • 6:50 - boom mic appearance!

  • Great summation of one of the most (in)famous episodes in television history. Thanks for making it quick and, well, maybe not, painless. lol

All these years I thought he jumped a shark in a pool on land with his motorcycle, now I am a wiser man who can contribute better to society.

  • very bad acting

  • who's jack benny? I just keep thinking of the movie Catalina Caper.

  • was not as Epic as season 4 premiere-Fonzie loves Pinky-

  • Painful to watch, but a cultural icon.

  • wait the jaws theme sortof.... JAWS WASN'T EVEN MADE YET!!!! O_0 ????

  • @thefifthteen jaws was made....jaws was 1975, this season of happy days was 1977

  • This isn't particularly absurd for a happy days episode.

  • Oh my.... wow.

  • Fonzie is so hot.

  • oooo I love sharks, what fucking air head!

  • were's the whole episode?

  • This is TITS!

  • WHATEVER

  • worst moment in tv history

  • Everyone seems to have to revolve their lives around Fonzies ego... fuck you Fonzie you asshole

  • @g1980p the comment was almost as cool as the Fonz himself

  • By the way, there was an episode of Happy Days where a guy LITERALLY jumped over a shark. And it was THE BEST one!

  • @dustbusta that is where we get the expression

  • @barrusDemonPlucker I know. It's a line from a TV show that nobody watches.

  • @dustbusta i love you

  • In my opinion this show was finished even if he didn't jump the shark. Even Welcome Back Kotter knew when to call it quits.

  • Okay, who goes waterskiing in hot weather wearing a heavy black leather jacket?? I'm sorry, but that doesn't look cool, it just looks dorky.

  • @bluecatky But, it's the fonz. I mean, The Fonz.

  • Well, I've never watched Happy Days. But, I don't understand: If this is from the 5th season and they jumped the shark because of this - how come the series lasted til season 11?

  • @jumin82 it was a kinda cool show it really was for that time!!!! cartoons were already over...parents at work kids are outside after doing homework or watching happy days before they went out of the house....

  • @jumin82 "Jumping the shark" is not the point when a series cannot be any worse. It's the point when a series STARTED becoming worse and worse.

  • where can i find this episode??

  • Fonzie jumps the shark then Richie goes after the bull.

  • See, I don't think people gave Richie enough credit here. That was some sweet towing!

  • worse moment in TV history. Hence the term .. jumped the shark. When a show hits a point like this.. it's pretty much over.

  • @wingnut4427 number of episodes of Happy Days that aired after the one in which the Fonz jumped the shark = 164. Source, Harper's Index, December issue 2010, not what I would call pretty much over.

  • @wingnut4427 Yeah and went on six more seasons was it?

  • @mattyoz0 it was number 1 for 6 more seasons yes. But the series didn't produce as many new episodes. Besides, That term was developed because most of the viewing audience thought it was a stupid plot line. Now when ever You hear the term "jump the shark" on any show they are referring to this disaster in TV history.

  • @wingnut4427 When someone now says "jump the shark" they aren't referring to this episode, it's when a show has reached it's peak and it's all down hill from here. The nannny jumped the shark when she married Mr Shefield

  • @mattyoz0 But it was this episode that spawned it. It is the only time in TV history is was done & most people know the analogy anyway.

  • @wingnut4427 Yes, me and everyone knows that.

  • @mattyoz0 Have a beer [_]D Peace ! :D

  • Fonz! You're not jumping over garbage cans on a bike. you're jumping over a shark! On nothing, on a couple of little skis. One little slip and CHOMP! CHOMP! CHOMP!

    Hahahaha

    Loved that moment

  • Aiiiiiii

  • The classic HD episode that gave the former website its name. Cheesy but fun. I seem to remember some dialogue that unfortunately isn't included in this clip. When the surfer dude tells Fonzie to go back to Wisconsin and move a pile of manure, Fonzie walks up to him, gives him a shove and says "I just did". Maybe that was earlier in the episode.

  • Okay, the Fonz wants a challenge? How about drinking motor oil or juggling bee hives? Or, better yet-how about jumping that shark on a tricycle?

  • I told Potsie I'd do this!

  • @magicuno Haha, yep!! And he kept his word! :)

  • Favre is such a wimp compared to the Fonze. Yeah, sure Favre may be 40 and playing in the NFL, but Fonzie is waterskiing in boxers and a leather jacket jumping a shark!

  • Favre is such a wimp compared to the Fonze. Yeah, sure Favre may be 40 and playing in the NFL, but Fonzie is waterskiing in boxers and a leather jacket jumping a shark!

  • Fonzie doesn't say 'I told Potsie I would do this'.

  • I heard Jim Rome 2day. When he played the clip, I could clearly hear the Potsie line but I still can't from watching this. (My PC has small speakers.) Funny thing, thought; the video strangely freezes right when the disputed line's spoken. Good thing Henry Winkler called the show 2 confirm the line & put the matter 2 bed!

  • If you listen closely, right before Fonz jumps the shark he says, "I told Potsie I would do this!"

    War the best day ever!

  • @huskerjuan You said it!!!

  • Jime Rome is the best! By the way...they are that stupid in Houston!

  • @MarcoA1111 U suck Houston's da best gayness

  • I told Potsey I'd do this!

  • jim rome is talking about jumping the shark

  • i told potzy i would do this! I can hear it as plain as freaking day.

WAR That pimp in the box!

  • moral of the story = Ron Howard was the whitest kid in the history of Earth

  • This was filmed at Paradise Cove, Malibu...the same beach that Jim Rockford lived on!

  • There is so much hotness in this clip, it's unbelievable. Gorgeous guys and girls!

  • Where can you find this whole episode?

  • And the leather jacket never got wet ! :D

  • I love how Fonzie's wearing his leather jacket while doing this stuff... in the ocean.

  • Comment removed

  • Watch from 6:30 onwards for "the action"

  • Richie said it best at 4:10, "Jumping the shark is the stupidest thing I've ever heard"

  • damn aots for having jump the shark week and making me look this up

  • jaws fever..ewww..

  • actors have to do some real corny crappy stuff sometimes....just bad writing.

  • What is REALLY jumping the shark here is that this was drug out over 3 episodes. PATHETIC. From a story line aspect this writing is at about a 4th grade level, strictly comic book material.

  • This was the 'coolest' show going back then. Nobody had heard about any You Tube yet.

I imagine it would be tough to keep things interesting after so many successful years. Writers probably came and went through the years, Mtv was right around the corner.

Hey, it was all pretty corny back then, but they really were 'Happy Days'.

  • family guy just jumped it.

  • BOOM MIC AT 6:50

  • @tiotito31 Sure enough!

  • i dont get how THAT was the worst moment in television history, that was awesome

  • Taking happy days to the beach was never going to end well

  • ayyyyy

  • The tool challenging Fonzie shows up in the Animal House movie. He's one of the top frat guys against delta house

  • why wasnt tht girl wearing a bakini top at the end

  • did they steal the music from a gay porn or something?

  • doesn't water ruin leather?

  • a stupid episode,But we should be thankful for the expression,'jump the shark'!

  • great tv , grammy worthy

  • Hey,Don't let the woodpeckers get you again,O.K?

  • "worst TV moment ever"

Danny Masterson (as Steven Hyde) - That 70's Show

  • The problem with this episode isn't jumping the shark, it's Fonzie wearing a leather jacket at the hot beach with shin high boots with scrawney white legs and wearing that dorky life belt. Not a cool image.

  • Why is he wearing a leather jacket on the beach???? DORK!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Whatever he still looks like a damm fool!or as "they" use to say a Nerd, geek.jerk dren. And if this offends you then SIT ON IT YOU POTSIE!!!!!!

  • lol - ok. good one!

  • @1963TNT thats how the fonz rolls

  • Because after a a few yeas and episodes, the 'Fonzie' character managed to become a parody of itself!!

  • This episode could have also been called...Fonzie bends over.

  • Hey that blond dude looks like the weirdo from COACH

  • The freezing of the camera shot at the end of a scene is soooo 70s.

BTW wasn't this suppose to be the 50s well before Jaws came out? Jaws was made in 1975.

  • @billybassman21 tHIS WASNT supposed to be anything like the movie "Jaws". and BTW This was the 70

  • @MegaSchoolRocks The music sounds like Jaws music and the show is supposed to take place in the 1950s, but was made in the 70s.

  • gay

  • why would there be a ramp near a shark?

  • Because they moved it. -_-

  • was that opie from andy griffith

  • yes

  • soo funny my dad showed me this a few mins agoo and i agree with him this is an amaze t.v show :)

  • Hope the Rangas were wearing sunscreen

  • he legit jumped over a shark on waterskis. what a badass!

  • Sorta like......Season 8 of That's 70's Show.

  • 4:24 hahahahaha

  • Jumping the Shark can also apply to movie series as well as sports and musical careers as well, not just television!

  • "The California Kid" was played by the same guy who played Greg Marmalard in Animal House - James Daughton. Say, why didn't Fonzi just threaten to fight him? Why'd the show have to jump the shark?

  • its not just ANY shark...it's a LIVE SHARK !

    :0

  • The Fonz. Coolest tv character ever.

  • I recorded All 3 Parts to this episode last week from family net.

  • Notice that there is no rope on the pylon during the first skier pull and a rope just hanging there loose on the pylon during Fonzie's pull. Thats an error that they probably thought nobody would notice.

  • Eeeeyyyyyyy

There's a shark in my boots.

  • I like this episode! lol.. cant believe the kids today dont know who fonzie is... darn schools..

  • 6:49 you can cee the sound boom at the top of the screen

  • i dont know why practicaly everyone hates this episode, i like it

  • "Jump the Shark"

    The precise moment when you know a program has taken a turn for the worse, gone downhill, become irreversibly bad, etc.;

Origin of this phrase comes from a Happy Days episode where the Fonz jumped a shark on waterskis. Thus was labeled the lowest point of the show.

    HTH

  • its is indictive of when a show goes bad.

but the reason it happened on this show was because it got cancelled, and for the remainder of their time left they really wanted to go out with a bang, and suspending belief for a few momemts

  • A classic. One of the greatest episodes of Happy Days.

  • LOLL I just saw FEZ from that' 70s show do it yesterday. the greatest moment of television ever.

  • A shark... I hope its female

  • Fonz! You're not jumping over garbage cans on a bike! On nothing on a couple of little skis. One little slip and CHOMP! CHOMP! CHOMP!

  • Thank You Dallas GOODNIGHT..

  • Jumped the shark. Where it all began. Unfortunate for Happy Days though.

  • I want to se the famous "ayyy" thumbs up thingy... anyone who can recomend a video? :D

  • STUPID BEYOND BELIEF

  • it's ridiculous that i used to love this show.

  • 6:50 you can see the boom mic come into frame. kudos to the production team for taking away the believability of the scene with that screwup. just when I was getting geared up to see the Fonz (stunt double) jump that friggin shark!

  • the guy in the robe speaks EXACTLY like JAMES SPADER!!!!

  • This was a great show when I was kid, but looking at it now,it's pretty pathetic.

You asshole 14 year old shitheads that laugh at it now, I'll see ya in 20 years when your shithead asshole kids grow up to resent you and laugh at your past.

Karma is a bitch ya know...

    It's karma ya know...

  • How/ why did you so strongly associate with this show?

  • Because it was these types of shows that I grew up watching...

For my son it will be Drake & Josh and Sponge Bob.

The Fonz reminds me of simpler days.

  • Henry Winkler, Great Skier, not so good motorcyclist! lol!

  • I don't know who is more pathetic, Fonzie or the people that think he's cool

  • It was a different time. TV was not as evolved as it has become today, but shows like this contributed to what TV is today.

Hell back then actors couldn't use half the words or do the things they can today.

    Great show, different time...

  • I think you are more pathetic than both of them,

  • The feeling is mutual...

  • Ayyy!!!.

    /thumbs up

  • Richie Cunningham. The teenager with a combover.
