Pretty obvious the Boss knows there was no E-Street if not for the Ramones. This guy knows more about rock 'n' roll than practically anybody, and he loves all of it.
That was so weird. I tip my hat to Brooce, clearly a song and a band he loves, and the audience were well into it, but most of the band, er, maybe not so much?
At this point in the show, Bruce declares "Can you 'Stump The Band'" and the crowd sends requests to the stage via signs. So, there is no rehearsal. No nothing. Just go with it and have fun.
@subimeyouthBJJ He is gesturing the chord changes to the rest of the band. This song consists of three chords which can be described via numbers (I, IV, and V). Odds are they listened to this song backstage before playing it. Maybe they rehearsed it once, but likely not. So the organ player is making sure everyone makes the changes together.
I was at this show and it was awesome. The band were challenged to do it by someone in the audience, practiced for about 2 minutes and launched the song. The audience rocked out... great night!
@strummer77clash This was a request from the audience, never rehearsed, never played before. Just something fun and spontaneous to do to make the show special. They did a fine job in that regard. Now quit your fucking whining.
I take my hat off to Bruce for this sign of respect to the greatest band ever to come from America the Ramones. What we need is more people & serious talent artists like Bruce speading the Ramones Gospel
people...bruce isn't trying to out-perform the ramones at this song... he covered it... u should take it as a compliment, not a way of trying to out-do the ramones
i am huge Bruce fan, but... it is hard to beat Ramones when it comes to this song. that song represents Ramones. I would like to hear Clash rocking that song
@vitotiv the clash did somtimes do a small segment of `blitzkreig` in the early days .i don`t rate this cover of `sedated `but fair play to bruce for acknowledging the ramones
I read that Bruce met Joey at CBGB's and offered them the song. Jon Landau found out about it and said "That's going to be OUR hit song and no one elses!".
Well I think they fucked it up, but RESPECT. Little Steven rocks. Would rock history have been different if Bruce had gone through with his idea of handing the Ramones his first top 10 hit, "hungry heart" instead of recording it himself? It worked for Patti Smith with "because the night"...

The epic levels of terribleness embodied by this are not capable of being captured in words... absolute shit-stained garbage. Maybe the lowest point ever attained my a musician in the history of mankind.
Well, they like The Ramones. It's not the E street style, so let's just leave it as a tribute of sorts to The Ramones. On the other hand, The Ramones never reached the level of (take your pick): Thunder Road, Jungleland, Backstreets, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Born in the USA, Racing in the Streets, Out in the Street, Badlands, etc. You get my drift.
He's onstage in front of tens of thousands of people who paid a hundred bucks each to see him. He is actually taking requests from the crowd. They are dancing, singing, having a good time because he has whipped them into a rock and roll frenzy..............exactly what have you accomplished in the music industry that tops this??
1. Charlie calling out the chords to Roy with his hands, hold up the 1 and 5
2. Soozie rockin' the F out on guitar. Love her, love her playing.
3. The call and response from the Boston crowd was PERFECT.
There's younger bands, more technically proficient, more adventurous bands, but round for round, pound for pound, you can't go to a greater rock and roll show in the world than Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Actually, it was a stump-the-band challenge. Bruce has been taking requests the last few days by collecting all the posterboards from the first two rows. (I was there.) He did ZZ Top the previous night. But you're on the right track - before the song, Stevie, Nils, and Bruce huddled just so Stevie could make sure they had it down.
This was so awesome -- I was at both Boston shows. Thought the night before was great when they did ZZ Top's "I'm bad, I'm Nationwide" but his was better!
the ramones were shit and are you seriously saying the e street band started playing after the ramones lol? lunatic
