Well, when he was turned into a vampire he was 17, but that was a damn long time ago. I get that he's supposed to appear to be 17, but seriously now, he's lived for much longer. What if Edward was a 70 year old man in appearance and he was attracted to Bella. Nobody would be so excited about it then. Just because he looks like a 17 year old, the fact that he's over 100 years old makes him a creepy old man.

Edward and Bella are essentially Mormons. They have to wait to have sex until they are married, therefore comes a hasty teen wedding and kids immediately after that. Edward has to fight his temptations just like every Mormon boy, ever.
