That button is quite useful actually, it allows you to turn the screen off while pausing a game to conserve battery life. I still prefer the Model 1, the Lynx 2 is so cheap and plasticy feeling.
You can go on about battery life, but when I was a kid, at night when I was meant to be sleeping I was playing my Lynx, all while my brother who was a Game Boy fan could not see Jack.
I still believe Nintendo set the Video gaming industry back a decade with the Game boy! Hmmm.
@TheConnyB its not a gay boy, its a GAME BOY you illiterate imbecile. i agree that the lynx is superior in some fashion, but the game boy defined the first idea of portability.
@alexdarling5 Really? is it really Game Boy and not Gay Boy? Wow, that´s news to me! I always thought the name actually was Gay Boy! Boy do I feel stupid!
the "useless" button allows you to conserve battery when you want to pause your game instead of turning the game off. I think it's quite useful considering how horribly this system eats through batteries.
Funny, I get 5 hours on both the Lynx and later model Game Gear. You're blue Game Gear sadly( since its one of the more rare ones) must have a defect to get worse battery life than a Lynx.
@dogeymon83 he probably didn't have any friends... i kid!!! but seriously, a lot of games used it, but the problem is that you had to find people that had a Lynx and you had to find people that had the same game (1 copy per system needed).
Was not worth the money it cost when it came out. But it was my first handheld system. My sister got the gameboy! While I loved the lynx, I kept wanting to play the Gameboy more. :(
Bought one for 13 euros with a bag, california games,klax,plus20 for ,checkered flug, ishido,(and god bless holland for its fast and good internet delivery)rygar.
i remember as a kid ,was a rygar box arcade coin machine bit away from home and just went to play or watch rygar or toki!
im still on to buy two lynx 2 with 39 games for about 50 euros?
very good video about lunx, for sure im keeping mine(s) soon in a box and when im 50 i will show it to my kids!;)

The Gay Boy is lame in comparison to the Lynx.. Just look at it, it rules!

@TheConnyB HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE PORTABLE GAMING LEGEND LIKE THAT! Atari lynx may be cool, but the gameboy is a FUCKING LEGEND. 'Nuff said.

By what exactly, may I ask? The Lynx's library was just horrible.

Nice review, I really love the Lynx, and I have the second version myself. The backlight button is for saving battery while the game is paused. :-)

a friend of mine had one and I remember playing it all the time, they are pretty good and highly under rated.

Those graphics were impressive. I didn't even know it exsisted. I had the Game Gear, which I considered a better system than Game Boy.
