@BradmanIII The difference would be the repertoire that you perform during the audition - you would be performing literature that is specific to the trumpet so the fact that its not a C instrument won't make a difference. My best advice is to inform your private teacher and your band instructor of your ambition as soon as possible so you can work on getting prepared for college (while maintaining your GE grades as well, of course ;-)
ik i should comment on ur first video, but ive been playing trumpet since 12 and am about to start my junior year considering music, but idt i want a performance degree. i play a little guitar and played french horn in band last year, but want to go for trumpet. my theorys good but ive never been in a district band and intend on auditioning. ive taken private lessons since b4 summer, and have been told i could get pretty far if i work hard. do u think so based off of this comment?
@BradmanIII if you are not interested in performance there is always Music Ed, Theory/Composition, Music History, Ethnomusicology or Music Technology just to name a few - basically, if you can think about something that excites you, then try to pick a major that goes along with that. But whatever you decide to do, if you want to major in music you will have to declare an instrument and play in an ensemble (or two usually) in order to get your degree.
part 2 of comment. correction, ive been playing since 11, and how do trumpet major auditions differ from piano and concert pitch instruments?
