I always saw it as punks death and sids death him realizing it was his time to move on cause there was simply nothing left for him on earth, punk was dead, nancy was gone, thats all folks time for a genre to take it's place.
Kurt & Courtney knew each other long before '89 & he chose her stagename from an obit in '85. Kurt's brainchild (LOVE Kills) Sid & Nancy because music producer Mutt Lange brought INXS & Adam & The Ants to meet me. Adam & The Ants managed by The Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren. The title comes from Amy (my name) meaning BeLOVEd. "Kills" comes from Michael Hutchence recording the song "Speed Kills" for '82 movie Freedom. I even helped out on the song by Joe Strummer (mentioning Alabama).
Alex Cox is a genius filmmaker, Gary Oldman a peerless actor, but Chloe Webb steals this scene -- one of the greatest endings in all the movies, perhaps the greatest.
I believe sid is innocent, he was way too drugged out to stab nancy plus he wouldn't have anyway. Apparently Nancy was still breathing when Sid woke up to get their methadone later on, if Nancy needed help why didn't she get it herself instead of bleeding out to death? I think some shady drug dealer did it, it was well known they had alot of cash and suddenly it's gone when Nancy dies?? I love this ending. It's perfect.
@Camiiinyourworld The scene is figurative. We know this b/c the boat and the burning room scene were very symbolic as well. I think Sid is in a heroin daze (the one that kills him) and Nancy is death coming to pick him up. Although the song is Taxi to Heaven, the ominous area they are going toward suggests something much darker (the hue is the darkest in the film). Also notice the nice touch of the kids running in Sid's footsteps. That could symbolize many things as well.
@bretflet that`s right.Sid had died,Nancy came to pick him up, and they are going together to heaven, something like that.
I watched this movie so many times and I always cry when I watch this scene...so sad,I can`t describe how I feel everytime when I`m watching this...Sid was innocent,I`m sure, but the scene when he stabbed Nancy makes me cry aswell.he loved her and he couldn`t killed her even if he was on drugs that night, that`s my opinion...RIP you bastard,I love you <3 Sid <3
I believe the ending his just symbolic. He's dead this whole time. This is just were him and Nancy find each other. And the song is called taxi to heaven! And they're in a taxi! to heaven! well i dont know about heaven. Maybe punk heaven. but either way this is one of the best movie endings of all time.
There is something so. . . . haunting, about this scene. I think that maybe, throughout this entire scene, he's already dead. Think about the likelihood of a pizza restaurant operating out of a maintenance shed in the middle of nowhere, Sid loved pizza. Then you have the little kids, when Sid liked kids and earlier in the film he defended that kid being picked on. Then boom, Nancy. Pizza, kids, Nancy, everything he loved. Heaven.
when john lydon had a short lived show on vh1 he blew up a note he had from sid concerning nancy. he said he was sick of all the glorifying of his friends death and he hated sid for it...i think he just had to finally let that shit go. it was sad.
@FleshStarvingBass just silly glamouring up of the story..trying to imply he flew away to some Nirvana where their love lived on...the truth being infinitely more sordid & depressing and therefore less cinematic.
There is no explanation the scene (like the whole film!) is pure fiction..and I admit an entertaining watch, but uncomfortable mix of myth and fantasy.
@jaytv777 Perfectly stated. The complete and utter truth about this film. Mythology and fantasy. Perfect example of using an "artistic licence"--very liberally, at that. Unfortunately, many, many people believe this fictional film to be the reality, the "true" story, and instead of learning from it, they celebrate and praise it. A literal "cult", essentially, and it just perpetuates more and more sick, twisted, untrue nonsense and self destruction. Sickening, really.
@ColeeWolee You are so right. The most of the time the filmmakers and jounalism are who spread this addicted way o living when they try to show this vicious persons as good as sheep. They tried to to the same with Hitler
Love this ending. HEY guys. Do you think its possible that indeed this was a suicide pact. Or even a murder by a drug burn. The dealer knew Nancy had cash and she was stabbed. Or stabbed herself. Obviously Sid was so stoned he couldnt help her or DID kill her in a drug-induced fury??? any opinions appreciated.
sid and nancy forever... this makes me sad because it just shows how much they struggleed with drugs finding themselves and their mental issues and shows how much they loved eachother to death. i guess love kills.
sid and nancy forever... this makes me sad because it just shows how much they struggleed with drugs finding themselves and their mental issues and shows how much they loved eachother to death.
Great name, bro. I absolutely love this film for how beautifully shot it is. They caught parts of London and NYC that most people never see and made them human.
It's no history lesson, to be sure, but it is a lovely film.
@ania0the0amazing but he doesnt look like sid ,,, at all and i dont think it would be a good career move for depp at this time this was 1986 when this was made think about it ,,,, no better yet lets the casting department do what they are good at ,,,, casting
God the yuppie advert this country has spliced on the front of this clip (different in each locale) has clean cut young hipsters drinking Pilsner in a sunny paddock. It is so very fucking soulless in comparison to this clip.

I love this movie but what i don't get is that if it was sid's taxi to heaven and nancy was suppose to be an angel how come the little kids saw her and commentted on her and sid? Sex Pistols ROCK!!!!! R.I.P. Sid and Nancy
@PunkyF00l : Syd died of an over-dose shortly after Nancy's death. That scene is symbolic of Syd dying and then joining Nancy in "heaven" or the "afterlife".
Every interview I have ever seen about Nancy is that she was a manipulative bitch who knew how to pull peoples strings.......especially weak people. I have never heard or seen a good word said about her. Although sid vicious was also a druggy, he was lead down that road to oblivion by Nancy. Some of the band actually tried to hide him from her when they were on tour in the Usa. Perhaps if the british councils had not banned the pistols from playing in the uk ,nobody may have died.
Do you honestly think his death was that pleasant? No, they showed what "heaven" would have been to Sid....which would have been, pizza, kids and Nancy....Therefore taxi to heaven:)
I remember reading somewhere that prior to his own death, Sid Vicious had actually been clean for a few weeks until he attended a party at his mother's house and she got him hooked again. If this is true, I hope at some point she asked God for forgiveness for her part in her son's tragic life.
Sid was in jail unttil the day that he died. He got out on bond went to a party at his new girlfriend's apartment and OD'd on junk that his mother had bought him at his request.
No one is accountable except for the addict, don't ever kid yourself otherwise.
@lesterclaypool1 Right, but his mother enabled his addiction by buying the drugs for him. As hard as it may have been for her to do she should have just found the strength and courage to tell him no.
@FleshStarvingBass I've always thought of it as Sid's death. Heaven is believed to be subjective to our life experiences and desires, by some. Sid's heaven has little kids who accept him, pizza and Nancy to take him into the "great unknown".
I could be wrong, but it's how I've always interpreted the scene.
I don't know that I'm smart...:). I've just had the opportunity to study a lot about different religious beliefs. Someone who doesn't have that religous background may get something totally different out of the ending.
@lesterclaypool1 Hey do u think Sid and Nancy really loved eachother or maybe they were just always drugged up therefore together becuz they werent even in a right state of mind? I find it very tragic :( I cried during this part out of NOWHERE!! It was beautiful.
I must say that it was rather painful watching the descent of this young couple into drugs, alcohol, debauchery, squalor, and finally self-destruction. Sid & Nancy was overall a pretty good film, but those who are not equipped to handle darkness and depression are warned to stay away from it.
on the eve of nancys birthday. i have read so much on them both over the years since high school feel like its a friends birthday. r.i.p they are together.
A few days after Vicious' cremation, his mother found a suicide note in the pocket of his jacket:
We had a death pact, and I have to keep my half of the bargain. Please bury me next to my baby in my leather jacket, jeans and motorcycle boots. Goodbye.
, Vicious' mother scattered his ashes over Nancy's grave.
I've laid waste to eternity looking for people who understand the basement beneath the earth - the subterranean transcendent stream below the tumult of life - and I've found the tragic manic hopeful dreamer's milieu for which my soul longs in those who see the power in this ending. I love you all and swear to lay down my life for you.
This movie and especially this scene moves my soul in ways I cannot explain. My eyes fill with tears, my face clenches with pain and my heart goes out to those I love.
the actress playing Nancy looks so different in the last scene, they really did an awesome job making her look awful for most of the movie...here she looks so sweet and pretty.
How romantic. And now go watch the crime scene video with Nancy's body crumpled underneath a bathroom sink & wonder what she must have been thinking as she lay there, alone, bleeding to death. It's so fucking sick how women (MOSTLY WOMEN) have romanticized a murder.
know what makes them romanticize it? The movie. None of them would ever even have been interested in the story if it weren't for the movie, now the movie is forever cemented in their minds as the way it really was. Sad. Real life is not the movies. They should read the book written by Nancy's mother, what a nightmare it was trying to raise her, her drug addiction, her prostitution, and the BEATINGS she got from Sid. He abused her for a long time before killing her..ah, true love!!
@Vergil951 No, not what I am saying at all. I have much compassion for both of them. I just get a little disturbed at the romanticizing of their relationship by so many people cause of the movie. It was a fucked up very unhealthy relationship. Even Nancy's mother felt that it was possible that Nancy pushed Sid into stabbing her, that it was part of her death wish that she had since she was a child.
I think Sid was a victim as well as Nancy. Sorry to come off as negative towards him.
@Bhav341 This IS why everyone romanticizes them together..this wretched film.It WAS extremely unhealthy. They both deteriorated rapidly in each others company.Yes,they both had problems BEFORE they met, but, together they went down, fast.BOTH OF THEM.I am sure they loved each other at some point in some sense, but, the "bond" was DRUGS.They were SO young, and, they were only together 19 months (NOT 23.Sid met Nancy in Mar 77,she passed in Oct 78, do the math.)It is a SAD story, and not "real love".
@dearlydementedxxx well, I don't know about THAT. Maybe it was rated high up there on biographies written about fucked up kids, but literary genius?
Whats the appeal of sid and nancy? I mean, watch that video interview of them in bed, the one where sid keeps nodding off. Spend some time around real addicts. It's a sleazy, creepy, depressing life. They don't bathe. Their teeth are rotting out. They would steal from their mothers. All that matters is the drugs. Romantic? Yuk.
@Bhav341 ive spent a lot of time around real addicts, granted getting wrapped up in drugs is stupid and all, but most of them are good people and its the drugs that make them do fucked up things. You're right in that sense but they are still people and everyone deserves to be loved. you meet people due to your interests, so do they. i just think its a beautiful love story. it's like a morbid romeo and juliet.
@dearlydementedxxx was it the movie that colors how you feel about them, or the real life sid and nancy? I will admit, I liked the movie, and am fascinated by their story - but I see the difference between real life and hollywood versions, and I am sure you do too. If you have spent time around real addicts, you know what I mean. Once the addiction has taken over, their humanity is pretty much gone, all they are is the drug.
@Bhav341 no, its the real life sid & nancy. I've loved them since long before I watched the movie. I do know what you mean, but I dont think their humanity is gone by any means.
Coolest scene in the movie!!

@lesterclaypool1 Great theory, it makes sense. Thanks !

@lesterclaypool1 Wowo, that actually makes a lot of scene. Your really smart to make that conection

So sad...

Watching this scene makes me sad because even though sid and nancy went through a lot of shit together, they really did lover each other
Dwk519 1 year ago 3
How romantic. And now go watch the crime scene video with Nancy's body crumpled underneath a bathroom sink & wonder what she must have been thinking as she lay there, alone, bleeding to death. It's so fucking sick how women (MOSTLY WOMEN) have romanticized a murder.
melfaery 1 year ago
@melfaery
know what makes them romanticize it?
Bhav341 1 year ago 3
@Bhav341
I don't want to start any fighting,
but you comment sounds like you want to give the fault to Sid, like he is the bad guy.
I'm sorry if i misunderstand your comment. I mean Sid was a nice guy, but the drugs well they changed everything
Vergil951 1 year ago
@Vergil951 No, not what I am saying at all. I have much compassion for both of them. I just get a little disturbed at the romanticizing of their relationship by so many people cause of the movie. It was a fucked up very unhealthy relationship. Even Nancy's mother felt that it was possible that Nancy pushed Sid into stabbing her, that it was part of her death wish that she had since she was a child.
I think Sid was a victim as well as Nancy. Sorry to come off as negative towards him.
Bhav341 1 year ago 3
@Bhav341 This IS why everyone romanticizes them together..this wretched film.It WAS extremely unhealthy. They both deteriorated rapidly in each others company.Yes,they both had problems BEFORE they met, but, together they went down, fast.BOTH OF THEM.I am sure they loved each other at some point in some sense, but, the "bond" was DRUGS.They were SO young, and, they were only together 19 months (NOT 23.Sid met Nancy in Mar 77,she passed in Oct 78, do the math.)It is a SAD story, and not "real love".
ColeeWolee 11 months ago
@Bhav341 the book her mother wrote was one of the best writings ive ever read in my life
dearlydementedxxx 10 months ago 2
@dearlydementedxxx well, I don't know about THAT. Maybe it was rated high up there on biographies written about fucked up kids, but literary genius?
Whats the appeal of sid and nancy? I mean, watch that video interview of them in bed, the one where sid keeps nodding off. Spend some time around real addicts. It's a sleazy, creepy, depressing life. They don't bathe. Their teeth are rotting out. They would steal from their mothers. All that matters is the drugs. Romantic? Yuk.
Bhav341 10 months ago
@Bhav341 ive spent a lot of time around real addicts, granted getting wrapped up in drugs is stupid and all, but most of them are good people and its the drugs that make them do fucked up things. You're right in that sense but they are still people and everyone deserves to be loved. you meet people due to your interests, so do they. i just think its a beautiful love story. it's like a morbid romeo and juliet.
dearlydementedxxx 6 months ago
@dearlydementedxxx was it the movie that colors how you feel about them, or the real life sid and nancy? I will admit, I liked the movie, and am fascinated by their story - but I see the difference between real life and hollywood versions, and I am sure you do too. If you have spent time around real addicts, you know what I mean. Once the addiction has taken over, their humanity is pretty much gone, all they are is the drug.
Bhav341 6 months ago
@Bhav341 no, its the real life sid & nancy. I've loved them since long before I watched the movie. I do know what you mean, but I dont think their humanity is gone by any means.
