very nice tune man, wish I had this on wax, unfortunately for me, being 21 years old means finding rare classics like this are always pricey :( part of the lost generation of the junglist enthusiasts... oh well at least I have one of those PG monkeys sitting on my deck
HAD to track this record down after hearing on DJ Coldcut's 70 Minutes of Madness - Journeys by DJ mix so many years back. It took QUITE a while. Now it is gathering dust in my bins! Thanks for bringing this one out.
FEKKIN AWESOME! One of his best this track, for some reason all I can hear in my head is Conrad yelling "the beats are gonna bang and make your mind EXPLODE!"
I am currently covered head to foot in goosebumps, quality
Ва-а-а-ау-e-e-e! Это супер-р-р-р! Ай дв молодец! Отличный классический джангл, какого уже не делают! Спасибо! А случайно нет ли Spooky 1993 альбома Gargantuah?
ez...could you do us all the biggest favour in the world and post side b? the bassline in the last third is just too sick for my brain to comprehend!
I'm not even joking right, I'm watching this wanky "ten years on" thing about the tv show "airport" and they used this in the background on one've the sections about the press guys who worked at the airport. mad how some shite tv shows are created by people who secretly have deadly taste in music!
Imo, the best of the set he made on street beats, they are all good don't get me wrong, but this one's just that little bit better, has a great b side to. Goes for a small fortune on e-bay/discogs...but then again so do most of photek's early works..Genius!
Same goes here, dont remember hearing it out at all..which is ridiculous!? Lots of dj"s spining da same ting back then tho..i think this was pretty late 94 so hardstep was starting to rule the dance floor..thank god for bukem n fabio eh!.... Sorry about the double post, thought i had lost what i first wrote..so i did it again.. : )
My personal fav of the truper set (3 in the set) on street beats, they are all good, but this ones just that little bit better imo. As has been said on here already goes for a small fortune on e-bay/discogs,but then again so do most of photek's early works.... Genius!
yes it wod be orgasmic to get an mp3 uploaded somewhere or provide a link..
and yea the slipknot song with amen is eyeless and its not hidden it starts out with it and comes back...the whole song is based off that rhythm...quite sick with the scratching....it was so odd finding out slipknot was drum n bass influenced
yes it wod be orgasmic to get an mp3 uploaded somewhere or provide a link..
and yea the slipknot song with amen is eyeless and its not hidden it starts out with it and comes back...the whole song is based off that rhythm...quite sick with the scratching....it was so odd finding out slipknot was drum n bass influenced
oh and slipknot used the amen on eyeless...and its actually not hidden the whole song is kinda based on it....it starts out with it and comes back..it was so strange learning that they used it after hearing..had no idea it was drum n bass influenced.
Love the style with the Raving monkey. I have the monkey not the tune but I can see having both is were the good time is at! Thanks for posting. This tune going for 50 quid on Discogs oh mannnnn
Not sure I would pay that..I paid £15 for mine..I also got the chemical brothers first testpress of song to the siren..the one with the green square label. It's on my profile..only 500 about.
Great track man! This is the shit I love. I stumbled upon jungle in 2003 and have had a real hard time finding it. If it weren't for youtube I'd still be searching. Now I got find were I can buy some of this. Thanks.
no one cuts up breaks like photek, the amen sounds so slow compared to the speeds it gets used at these days, photek and the amen, the perfect match, tune!!! all original ravers big up ya chess
jungle will be back. you shall all see. 80's fashion was revived, it's time for the early nineties now. Prepare for junglefests near you. that and camo's
I've said this for a long while now, people are bored of 2 step monotony. people like seba & paradox are pushing the sound forward with intelligent breaks, junglists unite!
THANKS FOR THAT. i have many originals from as far back as 91. its strange when you buy them and your 18 you dont think how sort after the tune will end up being in the future.
long live original jungle. rolling drumlines and the amen beat that gave the fire to all the best tunes from back then.
you don't have the sounds of life (source direct) remix of "can we change the future" do you? Some cunt stole it from me at a party best part of a decade ago and I'd love to see it on youtube. You seem a likely candidate...
Hey, no problem H4NDCRAFTED. Yes, I checked out that video, I really love it! Do you know any other breaks that have been sampled a lot besides the amen and funky drummer? I do know the intro drum from 'It's a new day' from Skull Snaps, but all I know are artists like Rob Dougan, The Prodiy and Steez-O who used the sample. Thanks in advance!
I didn't say it is something to be ashamed about, I mean, the amen break is really cool. It is indeed fasinating to see how the break was not only used in hip hop and jungle (and later in dnb), but also in songs from bands like the petshop boys, and, acording to the list on wikipedia, slipknot (it's not so recognisable, but it seems to be in there) !
Ok, but your forgive me if I read it the wrong way..the 'lol' at the end seemed to suggest this.
I didn't know weather you found it funny hah ha or funny strange...I guess both.
Have you seen the vid documenting the copyright of the 'amen' and how it's been used, and now copy righted, by a sample cd manufacturer even though they have never bought the rights. It's an interesting piece..I have it in one of my playlists if you looksee.
It's ok, but notice that most of jungle is based on a 6-second drumsolo from a funk track from 1969. I mean 6 seconds... ok it are 6 cool seconds but... Lol
Of course the amen break wasn't the only one to be used of course, and really made it's name in hip hop. After all that what early jungle was...speeded up hip and funk breaks..no suprise there.
What is wonderful is the many ways in which amens etc have been chopped and used to make great drum loops...it's a wonderful thing and nothing to be ashammed about.
Yep I loved how d&b had progressed by 1995. the 'intelligent' sound with all the metalheadz early releases. It really felt like the music of the future. There is good stuff now..but all that seems to get aired is that hoover driven hardstep :(
Got this on vinyl. One of my most prized possessions. Old skool jungle at its best. Bought it for £2.50 back in the day.
