I wouldn't get the groups confused.

I saw PRR open for Porcupine Tree and they were apples and oranges, both fucking awesome.

On the other hand, I saw Riverside open for Dream Theater and they were just boring...

I agree that PRR is not that similar to PT, but Riverside is also a great band, one of my favourites.

@asalmon2112 Riverside combines aspects of Pink Floyd and Tool, which I know sounds like a slight contradiction, but if you listen to their albums you'll identify with this. Certainly not boring in my opinion. Riverside is producing far better material these days than DT, which is merely carrying out its contractual obligations for its current record label.
