huh, thanks dudes. I am not deaf, and I just don't listen to the end of song. The passage from 2:02 sounds good and I like a kind of that music, but what I would say was, that effects wont make music instead of you. Just practise clean and practise. You have talent I dont say opposite, but don't forget, less is sometimes more. I don't hate anyone or anything, people sometimes need to push :) Sry for my language =)
I think the Les Paul sounds decent in this video. I actually use my PRS Singlecut on his track which sounds abit better. It would be interesting to hear a Rickenbacker play this, I would love one for occasional use
Your opinion should be ignored as you have a poor ear. You think there is wah wah on this video. Not being able to identify, probably the most recognisable guitar effect ever created doesnt strike me with confidence in your ear or opinion.
@ExpressKiller hahahaha really, that was shit. Are you even thinking about music? learn to listen, not to see somebodys fingers and expect to do something that sounds complex. Effects are like any other instrument, they need work. So, you really need to learn to listen to music, that was like a 12 year old child who likes metal cause it makes him special, sorry for being rough but its true.
By the way, this sounds great, congrats. It reminds me some of brian eno's soundscapes
@ExpressKiller why does this matter.. im not a great guitarist but i own a ibanez apex-1 and a gibson les paul custom shop.. saved up years for it but music should be about how u interact with the instrument... i like the sound.. i cant do it so i dont understand the need to hate
Hey, when you play do you wire the delays straight into each other? Does the 2nd delay not delay the 1st and make it sound messy or is there are solution to this?
Mr. McArthur, I must have watched this vid 1,000 times and checked every comment to find your CE-5 settings. I found your RV-5 and delay settings, but would you kindly disclose your chorus settings please? I feel like an arse... Thank you for re-igniting my desire to create. You are gifted and blessed.
Thanks, sorry missed this one hence the non reply. My chorus settings are always incredibly subtle I am generally not a massive fan of deep or fast chorus effects. So anything slow, shallow and low in the mix suits me. I currently use a TC Electronic Nova Modulator for chorus
@craigmcarthur1 Hi. I'm looking forward to buy a nova modulator but it seems that there's nobody using it. What's your opinion on it? How good is the trichorus?
Usually in the fx loop. Depends more on the way the amps fx loop is wired i reckon. It sounds great through the front of my hiwatt for retro tube echos, but sounds poor through the front of my boogie
this sounds soo much better than your Combined Effects (Part Two) demo. the atmospheric sounds you create just inspire me to create my own "worlds" of music.
love the sound of that all together, sounds nearly pink floydish esque, what are your view on boss pedals? ive heard a lot they can be a pain to work with sometimes and they seem to suck out natural sound or sound kinda electricy sometimes though not sure what to think?
Favourite pedal I own is probably my TC Electronic Nova Delay its very versatile. Depends what u are looking for from a pedal, the eventide is very very good.
Hi, great sound!, It seems that you know a lot about guitar effects. Maybe you could give me an advice, I love playing U2 and Pink Floyd´s songs and I wish my tone to get as close as possible as The edge and Gilmour considering that my income is not the same as theirs... I have an ibanez JS100 guitar, a Marshall MG100 HDFX amp, and I got a Line6 POD XT-Live, and a digitech whammy. I want to get the TC electr. G system but I don´t know if that would help. What could you recomend? thanks.
I would recommend getting to know the gear you have already. Your current setup should be enough to get your some decent tones. My advice would be before you blow money on the TC think about upgrading your amplifier to a tube amplifier. It will add alot to your tones
There's a lot of envy around here. I like your style and your equipment. I think the same of you bout guitars, i own a les paul standard too (epi) and it could sound great with a couple of good pickups. When one person can waste his money in whatever the fuck he/her wants it's really cool. Nice guitar-PC room.
Not to sound like a jerk, but why don't you use some of the money from those multiple pedals and amps and get a better guitar? It's quite a setup for a Epiphone standard.
I like that guitar, it has sentimental value. It was my first electric guitar. Its also had a load of modification, upgraed electronics, additional switches, Seymour Duncan pcikups etc so to my ear sounds great. My main guitar is a PRS Singlecut,I have a few modified Epiphones which I use for alternative tunings.I like them,I dislike the guitar snobbery that surrounds guitar equipment. I habve played many gibson, fenders etc that play like shit, the name is a good indicator but isnt everything
@craigmcarthur1 Well said, my friend. I agree with all you say, and also consider that getting Epi and modding it to your own needs says things about you as a serious player than just having an expensive, snobby guitar (and this comes from someone who owns a Gib).
Here's a question for you, man. I'm looking to modify my Les Paul to give it a more versatile tone. Do you have any suggestion as to where to start? (Picks, for sure, but which ones).
@st8mvp I own a Epiphone Firebird Studio, took me ages to find, but It plays and feels much nicer then any Gibson I've played and cost me a 5th of the price of one to.
With some upgrades to the pick-ups and electronics, you'd find it very hard to get a better Gibson under a few grand.
The Boss DD-3 is used for a standard digital delay 1/4 note repeat. The TC Electronic Nova Delay is placed after the DD-3 in the signal path and is set to a reverse delay with added modualtion. The Line 6 DL4 comes next in the signal path and is set to 'Digital delay with modualtion' with very high repeats to add a layer of atmospheric drone under the other guitar parts.
hi from mallorca, spain. I really like that tune and the great thing about it is that you only use two chords but it sounds really nice, congratulations.
Hey man, I was wondering if I could get any cool ambient sounds out of my effects pedal setup. I use the boss dd7, boss rv5 and boss ds1. How would you set up the tones and such if you used this as your own?
My advice would be to put the delay and reverb in the effects loop of your amp. Have the rv-5 on modulate mode with a high level, the a nice short delay. Pickup on the bridge position and amp on clean.
Cant remember the exact settings to be honest it was a long time ago, but its an efect i use fairly often. Its a basic wash out delay efect, just put the feeback or number of delays fairly high, effect level to taste then put a reverb after it on a fairly high setting to sooth it out.
how do you make guitar rig4 work in windows 7?, coz mine is not workin... when i plug my guitar to my lap top, i can see that guitar rig picks up the input from my guitar coz the bars were moving, but theres no output, theres no sound coming out.... anyone else having the same issue?.. any suggestion?.. im using a HP
i heard the Line6 DL4 break down easy... is this true? reason i ask is because i'm trying to decide what delay pedal to buy. i think the Lin6 DL4 sounds great but i'm a little confused because of the bad reviews on it's a reliability.
I previously defended the reliability of the DL4, but mine randomly without cause stopped working a few months ago, So i would no advise the TC Electronic Nova Delay, or the eventide time factor if you have a larger budget
Good Stuff man! I see you got a Boss GT6 there. What are your thoughts on that? ive had one for about 5 years now but im thinking of moving over to single pedals.
I use it for rough direct recording of ideas into my PC when writing songs. I used to use it as my modulation pedal board for delays, reverbs, chorus etc, but its a bit of a tone sucker if your using a tube amp, so i moved over to single pedals. Thinking of going back to multi effects with TC Electronic G-Force rack system however for one of the bands I play in
Yeh you do. If you have multiple delays its generally better to dial them in in conjuncion with the bpm of the track your playing so thet dont jar against each other.
it sounds like some sort of synth effect :S but it seems to be a combination of chorus and reverb ;) just read the stuff in the box on the bottom left
There are better pedals for this style of sound. If your going to buy a digital delat make sure it has a tap tempo so you can more accurately time the delay with the bpm of the song. Analog style delay and echo works well for 'post rock' sound
Yeh it would be ok. Not ideal. Any of the other Boss DD series delays with the tap tempo would be better. Or a Line 6 dl4, tc electronic nova repeater, Nova Delay etc
Where Did you get all the Ca$h for that Pile of GEar. You got a trust fund or what. Also WTF do you have all those Distortion peadls when your Running a Tube amp. I have Keely Modded pedals but I dont us them with my JCM head
Trust fund! I wish, I worked hard to buy all that gear. I run two tube heads, but use the overdrive pedals for variety of tone, and I have a few boost pedals to drive the tubes harder for lead work. Just using the overdrive channels provided by my amps doesnt cover all the variations of tone I require for the bands I play in, so the pedals fill in the gaps
iv seen that you use alot of epiphone products, I would like to get into the kind of music you do do you think its worth the money for a second les paul custom? and do you recomend an amp?
Amp wise there r loads of great amps on the market nowadays, but they very depend on your budget and what ur planning on doing with the amp. If its mainly for home use alot of companies now offer very low wattage tube maps which sound great at lower volumes. I love both my Hiwatt and my Mesa Boogie. Id love a Bogner, quite fancy a Matchless, Bad Cat and a Blackstar aswell. Have a look at the tube amps in your wattage and budget bracket
I bought most of it when I was at University from my part time job. I play in several bands, some of which pay. My own band Vinyl Future are quite progressive meaning I need a variety of different tones and effects hence the rig
Dl4 is a horrible pedal for a live setting . u cant rely on it for crap with dot 8thh etc. its all about the BOSS Gigga delay dd-20.l Plus Its Cheaper and 10X Better
Never had any issues with the DL4 for live use. The TC Electronic Nova Delay si the only pedal I would use live for dotted eighth. butter than the DD-20 and DL4 in my book.
Yeh its easy enough, there is a dotted eighth setting whch allows u just to tap in quarter notes an it syncs up for u. Or try just seting a 16th note delay and tapping on beats 1 ad 4 of a quarter note 4/4
I do own a Noise Gate I dont use it however, the fuzz buzz noise is from my camera's mcrophone not the amp. The amp is fairly quiet in the room. I'm just too lazy to mic up my amp and record properly!
thanks mate, much appreciated. I'm in two or should i say 4 on wether to get the boss space echo, boss dd20, line 6 dl4 or tc nova delay. What do you think? Would really help me out. I do like the sound of the line 6 though for the background noise
Depends what ur looking to do with it. The Space Echo will be great for analog style atmospheric echoes and reverb type sounds. The DD-20, DL4 and Nova Delay are all fairly similar. The DD-20 and Nova have a larger memory for presets, but the DL4 has a looper. Worth playing them all at some point and seeing which interface you like most
Its all on a pedalboard, pre wired into the Gig Rig Pro 14. So i just plug my head or heads (depending on which band I am playing with) into the cabs, then run about 8 cables from my board to the input, send, return and external switches of the amps. And thats me. Usually take 2 heads, one cab, my pedalboard and whatever guitars i need. So not as bad as it looks.
I use a DL4, DD-3 and Nova Delay. i combine delays quite alot. I generally use the DD-3 for basic short delay sounds to fill out clean tones. I use the various presets of the Nova delay as my main work horse delay. And I use the DL4 for atmospheric stuff and for the looper
Cheers, would you recommend the nova? It seems pretty awesome, the pre-set saving and analogue, tape & Digital modes sound really nice. How much did you pay for it?
Yup I like the Nova, it has a great range in tones, good build quality and the 9 presets are handy if you use a few different delay sounds. I never answer questions about price I'm afraid, I paid the UK RRP if that helps
hi craig , I have just seen you wear a pink floyd t shirt- That's where you are coming from!! I see!!! do you like the Edge U2? how old yre you , where do you li ve? your are an optometrist, you told me, give us some info about yourself...
Erm not entirely sure of the exact settings, but judguing from the sound I would say modulation mode, and the effect level up full. I usually have have the time up quite high and the tone fairly low and dark
Mr. Craig Mcarthur, this peice right here is magic, I mainly listen to trance and other forms of electronic music but am truly into anything thats quality.. and this sir is quality, its my favourite non-production guitar video on youtube.. this video played a big part in me getting my own guitar and amp recently (ibanez sa 120, roland 30) so thanks for the inspiration, and keep playing with this kind of mood, this is what the world needs to see an electric guitar making music like that...
it might be just me but its a little hard to understand your videos when you dont talk. The boss noise suppressor one made no seance to me but its all good. love your set up keep up the good work
The NS-2 demo makes perfect sense if you read the video description. There is a timeline of exactly what is in use and when. I will eventually get round to placing annotations on that video.
I do occasionally solo actually. I wouldnt put it down as my strongest asset on guitar, but I can solo. One of my bands is a wedding band were I do most alot of the lead work as the other guitarist sings. In my own band Vinyl Future my bandmate Gazpots is actually a machine when it comes to soloing so he plays about 95% of the solos as he is of John Petrucci ability.
Also endless shred videos online get boring and dont help anyone
Is the DL-4 used as a looper, or as delay?

There are better pedals for this style of sound. If your going to buy a digital delat make sure it has a tap tempo so you can more accurately time the delay with the bpm of the song. Analog style delay and echo works well for 'post rock' sound
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Would it at least "get the job done?" what would be alternate options? thanks
petesySO 1 year ago
Yeh it would be ok. Not ideal. Any of the other Boss DD series delays with the tap tempo would be better. Or a Line 6 dl4, tc electronic nova repeater, Nova Delay etc

Where Did you get all the Ca$h for that Pile of GEar. You got a trust fund or what. Also WTF do you have all those Distortion peadls when your Running a Tube amp. I have Keely Modded pedals but I dont us them with my JCM head
45CalChoad 2 years ago

Ok, I usually dont leave comments on vids.. But this one DESERVED IT!!.. I wonder how much thought it took to produce a sound so smooth..lol.. NiiCe

that sounded beautiful, nice equipment :)
VampolkaXL 2 years ago
a stupid question, perhaps, but how to you turn off/on multiple pedals at the same time?
Brageca 2 years ago
I dont. I leave all my pedals on and use a Gig Rig Pro 14 analog switching unit to drop the pedals in and out of the signal chain. Saves tap dancing.
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
hey man can you tell me your settings on your RV-5 and CE-5 it sounds amazing.
MrFTCKID 2 years ago
There are rough settings in the video description
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
iv seen that you use alot of epiphone products, I would like to get into the kind of music you do do you think its worth the money for a second les paul custom? and do you recomend an amp?
SkipperDiscoLand 2 years ago
Amp wise there r loads of great amps on the market nowadays, but they very depend on your budget and what ur planning on doing with the amp. If its mainly for home use alot of companies now offer very low wattage tube maps which sound great at lower volumes. I love both my Hiwatt and my Mesa Boogie. Id love a Bogner, quite fancy a Matchless, Bad Cat and a Blackstar aswell. Have a look at the tube amps in your wattage and budget bracket
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
How long have you been saving and getting Pedals. And why?
zminker11 2 years ago
I bought most of it when I was at University from my part time job. I play in several bands, some of which pay. My own band Vinyl Future are quite progressive meaning I need a variety of different tones and effects hence the rig
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Dl4 is a horrible pedal for a live setting . u cant rely on it for crap with dot 8thh etc. its all about the BOSS Gigga delay dd-20.l Plus Its Cheaper and 10X Better
BrownGuitar11 2 years ago
Never had any issues with the DL4 for live use. The TC Electronic Nova Delay si the only pedal I would use live for dotted eighth. butter than the DD-20 and DL4 in my book.
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
the song you play reminds me of that song by Steve Fisks "Overture"
and you also remind me of The Appleseed Cast, they use those type of pedals (i think)
very well done too it sounds relaxing and mellow

Do I hear some U2 influences?
willemkerpel1 2 years ago
Mmmmm I wouldnt say so really. I dont dislike U2 but I dont often actively listen to them if i am honest. More of Pink Floyd influence i'd say
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Man you need to get a pedalboard! Lol
Ilovemyfender2 2 years ago 2
decided to get the nova delay mate, just think it has an edge on the others. Is the tap tempo on it easy to use to get a dotted 8th sound?
jakeyboy2929 2 years ago
Yeh its easy enough, there is a dotted eighth setting whch allows u just to tap in quarter notes an it syncs up for u. Or try just seting a 16th note delay and tapping on beats 1 ad 4 of a quarter note 4/4
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
man...you are awesome....great playing... that was celestial....

craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Do you use a noise gate...cos it not it'd help you i think to cancel out the buzz fuzz noise....maybe
ruaridh1888 2 years ago
I do own a Noise Gate I dont use it however, the fuzz buzz noise is from my camera's mcrophone not the amp. The amp is fairly quiet in the room. I'm just too lazy to mic up my amp and record properly!
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Lol no probs man it's an amazing sound anyhoo sound shit hot

mikenemonic 2 years ago
thanks mate, much appreciated. I'm in two or should i say 4 on wether to get the boss space echo, boss dd20, line 6 dl4 or tc nova delay. What do you think? Would really help me out. I do like the sound of the line 6 though for the background noise
jakeyboy2929 2 years ago
Depends what ur looking to do with it. The Space Echo will be great for analog style atmospheric echoes and reverb type sounds. The DD-20, DL4 and Nova Delay are all fairly similar. The DD-20 and Nova have a larger memory for presets, but the DL4 has a looper. Worth playing them all at some point and seeing which interface you like most
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
what settings you got the dd3 and rv5 on mate? Epic sound by the way. Same way as i play
jakeyboy2929 2 years ago
Thanks
RV-5 is set to Modulation mode. Effect level up full, tone at minimum, time about 12 o'clock.
DD-3 is set to a basic quarter note delay roughly in time with what I am playing
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
how do you get the money for all that stuff?
xXchr15t0ph3rXx 2 years ago
I work
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
how can you travel all of that, then set it up, then travel it back home, and reset it up, again! thats a lot of gear man
xXchr15t0ph3rXx 2 years ago 2
Its all on a pedalboard, pre wired into the Gig Rig Pro 14. So i just plug my head or heads (depending on which band I am playing with) into the cabs, then run about 8 cables from my board to the input, send, return and external switches of the amps. And thats me. Usually take 2 heads, one cab, my pedalboard and whatever guitars i need. So not as bad as it looks.
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Hey man, why the DD-3 AND Nova Delay? I'm thinking of ditching my Boss DD7 for the Nova Delay. ANy thoughts? Cheers
GuyFromMars1977 2 years ago
I use a DL4, DD-3 and Nova Delay. i combine delays quite alot. I generally use the DD-3 for basic short delay sounds to fill out clean tones. I use the various presets of the Nova delay as my main work horse delay. And I use the DL4 for atmospheric stuff and for the looper
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
Cheers, would you recommend the nova? It seems pretty awesome, the pre-set saving and analogue, tape & Digital modes sound really nice. How much did you pay for it?
GuyFromMars1977 2 years ago
Yup I like the Nova, it has a great range in tones, good build quality and the 9 presets are handy if you use a few different delay sounds. I never answer questions about price I'm afraid, I paid the UK RRP if that helps
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
thanks! Fair enough about prices, I'll have to shop around until I find a good deal. :)
GuyFromMars1977 2 years ago
come on, isn't 2 les pauls enough?
dilligaf1942 2 years ago
Na I buy them in multi packs
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
lol fair enough. i guess i do have like 2 electrics, an electric acoustic and a bass. i don't really need any but one electric.
dilligaf1942 2 years ago
I have lots of guitars as i use alot of different tunings and i play in a few bands meaning i need a variety of tones and setups
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago

Signal chain should be in the video description with some basic settings
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago
when i saw the start of this vid will all the pedals and crap i was like 'eh'.
But that was freaking awesome man. Top job.
5beomexl 2 years ago
hey ps what are your settings for the RV5?
5beomexl 2 years ago
Erm not entirely sure of the exact settings, but judguing from the sound I would say modulation mode, and the effect level up full. I usually have have the time up quite high and the tone fairly low and dark
craigmcarthur1 2 years ago

The NS-2 demo makes perfect sense if you read the video description. There is a timeline of exactly what is in use and when. I will eventually get round to placing annotations on that video.

Hi Craig, thanks for your help in the email the other day - I have now ordered a DL4!
Still enjoying your videos

he NEVER SOLOS
slave543 2 years ago
I do occasionally solo actually. I wouldnt put it down as my strongest asset on guitar, but I can solo. One of my bands is a wedding band were I do most alot of the lead work as the other guitarist sings. In my own band Vinyl Future my bandmate Gazpots is actually a machine when it comes to soloing so he plays about 95% of the solos as he is of John Petrucci ability.
Also endless shred videos online get boring and dont help anyone
