@whitegaleRaven doesn't seem to stop other developers from doing it. Look at Final Fantasy XIII-2. Every character in the game has some spoken dialogue.
There's a few reasons for him being silent in every game to date.
A. It saves them a lot of time and money, B. Just as WhitegaleRaven said, they wouldn't have to deal with replacing voice actors, C. It acts to immerse the player into the character a lot better. After all, I would hate to see them do to Link as they did to... *shudders* Sonic the Hedgehog.
@Hellvantard I don't think money would be that big of a problem for a large company such as Nintendo. I THINK they could afford to hire some voice actors, and with a company that is usually a stickler for quality I don't think they would accept poor voice acting for one of their key franchises so the "Sonic" problem wouldn't be an issue.
I'm just sayin', I don't think I would like Link as much if I couldn't get immersed into the character as much as I did while playing. The silent hero is a pretty common plot device, an effective one too. But that's just my opinon. = /
@Hellvantard the difference is this. Existing voice over = the character has a personality and you get to know them better over the course of the game.
No voice over = you have to make up your own personality and imagine how the character would respond.
Essentially, having voice over or not is the difference of reading a book written in 1st person or third person. With a voice you're watching the character, without, you can be the character. I personally don't mind either way.

@Brad64LP nobody, because that's not the gilded sword it's just the sheath for the master sword and it flies off when he swings it, hence the crashing sound.

As awesome as this is, I just have to say that Link's voice actor is not just "some Japanese guy"; it's the King of Braves, Nobuyuki Hiyama. He's also the voice of Gaogaigar's Guy Shishioh and is basically the God of voice acting forever. However, that being said, phenomenal work!

If somebody didn't know who Kim Jong Il was, it wouldn't make him "some random Korean guy".

@Lightningstrike1220 I never assumed anything of the sort. What I was referring to was the fact that saying "some Japanese guy" implies that it was some no-name dipshit they pulled off the streets and said "OH HEY YOU BE LINK NOW." Hiyama is a wildly decorated voice actor and a massive name in that field, and just because you don't know who he is doesn't make him some random guy. If somebody didn't know who Kim Jong Il was, it wouldn't make him "some random Korean guy".

Why assume that Link is "dubbed over" by "some Japanese guy"?? Assuming that a blond-haired, white guy automatically speaks ENGLISH? HA!
I just don't see how grunting noises constitute a certain language. ANYONE can understand that grunts/moans are not really "speaking", therefore, why put a language to it?
And that's another thing. The creators left him silent b/c they know everyone has a different version of Link in their heads, and didn't want to break that illusion by adding a voice over.

@LongLiveLink3 I somewhat understand your point, but don't be too negative about it. the creator just happens to speak english so he dubbes it in english. there are some german fandubs as well. and all in all this is just for fun.

Besides it's always fun to do some voice actings!

I can say they use some american or french guy as links voice, does it sound racist?I understand how you can think its racist, and i respect that but it doesnt seem to bother anyone else here =/ Im part japanese and im okay with it XD
