"Tinariwen" is the plural of "Ténéré" and the word "Ténéré" means desert but not only desert,also "country" or "countryside" the group has being together since 1979 and were living in Tamanrasset in the south of algeria. then after a complex sequence of events they came back to mali to fight a rebellion in 1990.

The inspiration and the source of the whole Tinariwen story. tuareg are amazigh like myself we are of the berber(amazigh)tribes, so that was not nice to be rude unless u know really the history of our country and music, and people algeria is a mix of all

The Tuareg of the Tinarewen Band are from the country of Mali, from Kidal.  The Tuareg live today mainly in Niger, Mali, Chad, southern Algeria.
