  • @backflipx84 Yes, but then you can take the bishop with the pawn.

  • Defender removal sounds pretty epic:P

  • In this situation: 08:27 isn't possible to drop the pawn at 2c?

  • P*2c, and the Gold just runs.

  • How can you move lance?when it can move only forward and it`s in the corner?

  • @ShikaXTema4everRock Rewatch the previous Lessons on promotion and you will see. It will be forced to promote.

  • @ShikaXTema4everRock By capturing it and dropping it back on the board.

  • before i started watching these videos i was getting my butt kicked in shogi now just i had my first victory pretty thanks to these lessons (& the fact that i've played chess for about a year and a half now) thanks for posting these

  • 7:20 why not just drop the first pawn at 5e so it's covered by the bishop, why bother pulling the white rook in?

  • If the pawn is not attacking the rook, white can use his next turn to save his silver. The point here is that you have to keep having the initiative by always force white to move the rook, not allowing him to save his silver.

  • the best move for the sente at the first wrap-up problem is , I think , 6d because it create a check and a fork at the same time . Gote respond king at 5b and then the sente bishop take the rook at 7c and promote . + material win .gote bishop respond at 4d , sente rook take it , gote king at 5c , sente drop rook 6c , gote king 5b , sente rook promote and checkmate 6b

  • 8:13 bishop discovery! if he retreats back, summon a pawn at 6c, if rook retreats forward, it's safe. Don't worry about the mistakes Hidetchi-san, as long as you point it out with the pop up text ^^. Thanks again for this helpfull lesson!

  • The point of the example is that the silver will be saved. The rook can go to 6e after the bishop discovery.

  • pieces returning to board makes this game much more complex. You need to watch piece on the board, and also pieces not on the board.

  • Hello, sorry if there's an obvious answer to this - but during the example given at about 10:10, what if the move R-5g was made? It would seem to create another fork.

  • If R-5g, the gold on 5a can simply run away.

  • I was thinking then the Rook could take the Gold knight at 8g, but I don't know why I didn't take into consideration Whites rook at 8b. Oops! :P

  • I'm a bit confused - what's the difference between the skewer and the pin? It seems like the pinned piece in "pin" is simply the intermediate piece in the "skewer".

  • Skewer is when the first attacked piece wants to run from the attack and the other piece would then be captured.

Pin is when the intermediate piece is fine to stay there, (won't be captured by the pinning piece), but can't get out of that line since the other piece would be captured.

  • for the exaample tha tis used in the pin. black drop a pawn to attack white's bishop.. but white could just drop a pawn to attack black's bishop too

  • You mean the example for 'defender removal'.

If white attacks black's bishop, then the bishop can just move in the diagonal and it's fine.

  • for the first defender removal, he coul have just promoted his other pond. it would take less time.

  • It's nothing if you promote the pawn. You wanna get capture the Lance here.

(by the way it's not pond, it's pawn)

  • Please don't worry about making mistakes.

Trying to understand the teacher's explanation is one thing, but at the same time being ready to detect possible errors surely makes a much more effective learning.

  • At 10:27, if the gold captures the pawn at 5b, black's rook move to 5g and create another gold fork, so white should capture black's pawn with the rook no matter which way black's rook escapes to.

  • No. If he takes the pawn with his Rook, he loses the Gold on 8g.

  • dont mind the mistakes you just a human too reat jib your doing!!!

  • Awesome!

    Thanks again.

Don't worry about the mistakes. They're small ones and you are doing one hell of a job already.

  • Pawndrop 2c at 8:51 =D

    Great lessons :D

  • 2c? The gold will just moves away and nothing happens...

  • Oh snap, ofc it dose, my mistake ;(

  • nice job man im 13 years old i feel like playing this game all next year

  • in the last example you just take the gold on the left with your rook then you got the other guys rook sceward... Dont you?

  • You're absolutely right. My mistake...

  • Hi! All your lessons about basic techniques are great. Thank you. After watching them I realised that promotion is most difficult for me. I tend not to notice that I can promote leaving opponents camp ;]

Seems like in example at 7:00 B-6c+ is a better idea.

  • You're right. I mentioned it in the "Annotaion" for this video. Please turn on the "Annotation" switch.

I wanted to explain about blocking a defender, so let's suppose opponent's another pawn is in 6b.

  • Actually, I had it turned on. I must have omitted your annotation when I was setting my pieces up without pausing the video first (I do most of the exercises with the real shogi set, it's easier for me in this way).

  • Oh, you're doing the excercises with the real shogi set? That's a very good way to learn. I'm glad to know you're studying shogi with eagerness.

  • great lesson! you make shogi so interesting!!! i'm gonna stop doing homework and start playing now,

keep on putting up these great lessons!

  • Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you liked the lesson.

But, don't stop doing your homework...(^o^;)
