@GeorgiNM It was a placement thing for Madame Verrett. All of her "EH" vowels in her middle voice were closer to "EE". "EE" helped her keep the sound in the masque without coming off the voice and the actual tone. If you listen to the morir per te's that dip into chest, it's a nice wide Italianate EH. Two cents.
@voceangelo Thank you for the knowledgeable answer... Paying close attention, the "te" at 2:39 is pretty much correct. None the less, a slightly disconcerting habit. Similar to most sopranos, especially coloraturas, of the beginning of the XX century, who assimilated the "e" to an "a" almost...
I'm quite sorry they didn't do Giorno d'Orror and Madre! Addio! - the coloratura in the second would've sounded splendid with Montserrat at that age! Otherwise, magnificent and naturally regal here. Verret great velvet garnish to Caballe's crystal.
Bravi BRAVI What can one say..... Two Star singers Working it out....... Please Could someone tell these New singers to take Notes.... i am so bored with most of them. Just listen to Miss Verrette Voice Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Nice and Rich, and Regal Caballe Pure Haven..... Love it thanks for this Posting.
I agree COMPLETELY. I am SO bored with Renee Fleming's gowns and crooning and Natalie Dessay's pained non-singing ('greatest sing actress before the public today' my big gay ass). Thankfully we have these two and the other Greats to show us how it's done.
7:00-7:04. I love that part!
