Don't do this just because. Only do it when you absolutely must in order to trim your rabbit's claws because this terrifies the rabbit (but they've very good at hiding fear/weakness/pain because they're prey animals). You're inducing TI (Tonic Immobility), which is a rabbit's natural last-resort defense mechanism in order to escape a predator who may thing the rabbit is dead and ease up on the fight/restraint.

PLEASE don't do this to your rabbit! You are literally putting your bunny through such terror that it feels the need to 'play dead'. It may look like it's calm and relaxed but it is actually terrified. This is a cruel thing to do to an animal, please find another way to calm it down.

Thx soo much for showing! I have a friend and she has a bunny and it won't stop freaking out! She can t manage to clip its nails so I do it when I m at her place cuz I m not scared of holding it right and do the clipping but I don t visit her often enough soo I guess we re gunna try this! See if it works :)

This is very difficult for me to do. My bunny is btwn 3 to 5 months (so the pet store told me) and I still don't know it's gender. I tried hypnotizing it but as I slowly lower the bunny it starts flopping and I just let go.

@JeanPlaisance IWhat i do is I hold her with one hand as if she were standing and then start stroking her head, she then starts calming down and I can put her on her back. Putting a rabbit in a trance won't kill them but it's not really good for them either, therefore I ONLY trance her when I want to clip her nails because at least for me it decreases my chance of hurting her. I also don't completely trance her.

Trancing your rabbit is NOT GOOD! Google it if you do not believe me! There are many mixed opinions about doing it, but the bottom line is that it is WRONG.

In the wild, rabbits put themselves in trances as a last resort when they're dealing with predators.

Putting your rabbit into trances will increase its stress, therefore not make a happy bunny. It is NOT a peaceful experience for them.

Rabbits in this state are not relaxed. They are put into a catatonic state of terror and show racing heart, higher stress hormones, etc compatible with acute fear. (*McBride et al., (2007),Hypnosis: A State of Fear or Pleasure?, Proceedings of the CABTSG Study Day 2007, pp38-40.). Please think twice or thrice before doing this. I am sure Rachel doesn't mean to be cruel, but this procedure is. Moreover I know of a rabbit which died from repeated trancing.

I'm sure you've heard of the evolutionary response to fear being the fight or flight response well what most people don't know is there are two more kinds of responses to fear being freeze and submissiveness. It's more likely your bunny went into either of the last two.
