DUDES LISTEN TO ME WE NEED A HIGHLANDER REMAKE COMON THEY GAVE US CRAPY REMAKES LIKE NIGHTMARE ON ELMS STREET ................REMAKE HIGHLANDER NOOOOWWW!!!!
A few things I never quite understood about the Highlander mythos:
Just how does one become an immortal? Do you have to get bitten by one of them, like werewolves and vampires?
How many immortals are there on the planet? I figure there must be at least a few hundred thousand, since they always seem to be running into each other.
When a good and an evil immortal meet, they always end up fighting each other to the death because "in the end, there can only be one." WHY can there only be one?
Immortals can't fight on holy ground. What would happen if they DID fight on holy ground? Would it cause a rift in the space-time continuum that would destroy the universe? And just what is "holy ground" anyway? Maybe a church or a religious cemetery, but what about the church parking lot?
The only way to kill an immortal is by taking his head. What if you cut exactly halfway through the neck? Would the wound heal or would the guy croak?
And about those Watchers -- if they observe and record the activities of immortals but never interfere, and they keep the information secret, then what's their purpose? Do they just have an unusual hobby?
No one really knows about the "Source" and the sequels did dick in explaining... but the way I see it the "rules" are similar to bushido and breaking the rules might void their immortality/forfeit the prize... the head and heart being seperated is what kills them... the watchers know alomost as much about them as the eldest immortals, and has some secret agenda for the "one"
I will admit I don't know much about it but,IMO, Highlander is the greatest movie ever.. I just don't over analyze it..
Well, I was being a bit facetious, and I don't really mean to over-analyze it either. It was a great show, one of the best fantasy-adventure TV series ever. And you can't expect a mythology with supernatural or fantastic elements to be totally logical.
"Excuse me, sir, but would you mind explaining why you're wearing a long overcoat in 90 degree weather in the middle of July?"
"Well, you see, Officer, I'm just hiding my sword!"
According to the episode "Little Tin God", Joe Dawson tells MacLeod of the only mention of an immortal beheading another on Holy Ground, even that's considered a legend. It took place in 79AD in Pompeii. That was when Mount Vesuvius erupted. In other words, they thought that the Holy Ground beheading caused the volcano to erupt.
Hmmm. . . So if one immortal fought and beheaded another on holy ground in Los Angeles, there'd be a humongous earthquake and California would fall into the ocean?
No one truly knows. Even the instance I mentioned is considered a legend. I guess it's enough to keep even the most evil immortal from violating that rule.
I remember that actually. But Duncan is pretty open-minded about such things. So do Immortals just "know" when they step on holy ground? As a role-player and Highlander fan these details are important, because if tere are no signs and the immortal is known to the area.....
I think they know, or there would be an accident every now and then. They either know by istinct or they do accurate searches on every place they travel to. Maybe they have a web site :D
LOL Maybe, but it was a legitimate question. Say a 2000 year old Druid's sitting on a site holy to her, and a Christian who's basically convinced that if it's not Christian, it doesn't count. Research won't help you there.
in fact I remember that in Highlander 3, while Kane had just defeated Connor and ready to behead him, something weird happened...the 2 swords broke each other in a clash, and then a veil ripped away, showing a group of buddhas and candles and a strange sound, and Kane seemed a little scared about it, and then he ran away lol
we are dark and we there before you so dont mess with us...........imposters.

@helenMacleod totally agree with that, we need any mcleod NOOOWW!!
chachueloide 1 year ago
@helenMacleod You're right. Duncan and Methos were the best part of the Highlander story, and the original actors should be used - no replacements.

Oh, well -- I didn't write this stuff.

I think it's more of a "Sanctuary" thing.... Like playing tag as kids you wanted to be on "base".
TriaMaxwell 3 years ago
I don't know. It may be more than that if someone like the Kurgan, who is a total scumbag follows that rule.
Originalman320 3 years ago
Maybe.... But the question of "What is holy ground" stands. Obviously churches and graveyards, but what about sites holy to other faiths?
TriaMaxwell 3 years ago
Yes, sites of other faiths are considered holy ground. Duncan MacLeod has a cabin on an island where the Native Americans considered sacred.

1st recal of it is in Highlander 3, when connor faces kain in the doe'jo
the gym is also a buddist shrine and when they fight things get a little odd, but not odd enough imo lol
