There is a reason Van Damme is on Expendables 2 and Seagal isn't. Van Damme is a real person with real person experience and BTW a former professional karate fighter. Seagal is a 300 lb lardass who's "Achievements" in the martial arts are based on bullshit and traditional fairy tales and BTW he's a freakin guy who cheats on his wife. And is overweight X10. The real reason why Seagal couldn't make the Expendables? HE'S TOO DAMN FUCKING FAT!
Wow. I still haven't seen the whole movie, but that was HUGE. Very impressed. Ofcourse it goes with out saying that JCVD brought joy and entertainment to the world through his movies. And I hope he continues to do so. Can't wait for EX2.
my tear fell out. I never seen him like this..A new person with feelings..He deserves more than an applause..He deserves and Oscar or an award for his success
in a simply human way (read:not gay), i love you Jean Claude. you put up with a lot to get to the top. it was a hard climb. then you had some less than fortunate events. and now you are more human for it. you inspired me in your roles as i grew up. and now i see, that as i grew up to be a man, you grew to be a real man. fallible. with emotion. not bullet proof or unbeaten like your characters you portray. your tears are real, as are the ones on my face as i see this. thank you
Mr. Van Damme... Winner of the Kumite of our hearts... When I was a kid you beat Chong Li, the Sand Man, the Chinese Triad, Atilla, and that guy from Time Cop... You helped make me who I am today. You've influenced many people to become better people. You need to knock that shit off. Frank Dux wouldn't take life lying down and neither should Jean Claude Van Damme. You're awesome my friend.
@Zeitgeist6: Ye heard that from many people around me that didn't like him before. Even if i liked a couple of movies of him he did in the 80s, this was the best performance ever.
I hope i will see more movies in this genre by JC now
Without a doubt a very good scene for Jean-Claude. He definitely shows a lot of heart; swinging for the fences. This is certainly a fusion of facts and fiction, but it's a good way for him to set his record straight.
rewatched JCVD today. I was never a big fan of Van Damme (I'm not into action much) but this is a good movie and it shows the guyhas actual acting talent. So much respect to him for having the balls to try something different and succeeding.
I don't like it when people say things like "Oh what is he moning about he has it all!". Film stars are HUMAN at the end of the day and have emotions just like us. It makes total sense to me what he says about wanting more and so turning to drugs etc. All the money in the world does not equal happiness. He is simply talking about his situation and the way he feels and whats wrong with that. Nobody really knows how they would feel in his situation we can only empathize. Think about it.
his acting standard is equal to Robert De Niro! is action is closed to Bruce Lee! JCVD is total package where fuckup Hollywood rich fagots toss away! Hail Van Damme
@Kiley710 That's because it was real. The director separated Van Damme from the rest of the set when he filmed this and just let him speak. He earned my respect for putting himself out there like this.
wow...thats deep. didnt know that^^. now im really eager to check out the movie. now i see why so much emotion was put into that part it was so good i was fuckin confused like wait..is he acting or is he serious? that was a smart as way for him to get that emotion out. haha certain actors out there should try that for emotional roles. If fuckin van damme could pull that off (VAN FUCKIN DAMME??) almost anyone can do it haha

First time, seriously I wanted to cry. Like many of you I was a kid when Bloodsport/Kicboxer etc. came out and JCVD was the shit back then. I'm from Montreal and I met GSP no so long ago and we talked about this, van damme was his idol as a kid. But the thing is that I lost his track growing up and when he was doing movies not longer on the big radar. But than, I saw that movie and watching him talking like that with a adult mind, its a totally different vision of the man. Its sad and great.
you are so pure,, you have so big heart,,you have so pure soul like diamond ,any time this diamond have some dust just a clean touch it and you shine again just like a diamond ,,,,we LOVE you Lion heart GOD Bless you,,
I can feel his pain and the emotions that he gives out. A man that deserves love and respect. He is a great actor and should of gotten an Oscar nod for this. The Oscar people are old foggies that only see the action movies he did and not beyond it.
I'm watching Bloodsport on t.v. right now, and to see JCVD go from that to this is awesome. What a monologue. I was blown away by his performance in this movie. It was such a great surprise.

He´s just wonderful and people shouldn´t believe everything about him in the press. Jean Claude you are just wonderful.
"Never judge people from their outside looks" This part of the movie proves it! I love this guy since childhood and he is the reason why I love martial arts today. He has the muscles but also a nice and brave heart where he can open it to the whole world out there. I don't know many people who can do this in front of a camera. I never thought bad about this guy. He is actually a well cultured-nice guy. Anyways, this part made me cry and the things coming out of his mouth are simply beautiful...
i feel for him i was in a big bad and toured and recorded for over 10 years,,and it cost me everything i got, wife, kid, house, health, soul, mental well being.I now record at home and hire a drummer now and again,,i feel for him
I recall reading in a magazine that this wasn't entirely a scripted scene, but he opened up, had a full breakdown; the director kept filming, which was why the set ceiling was scrolling. In a way, it was JCVD's way of apologizing to his many fans.
Why the fuck didn't he get an Oscar??! This monologue alone is a reason why he should have an Oscar!!! This is the most touching and heart-filled monologue I've ever heard! Jean Claude. You're simply the best!!
this monologue is a movie on it's own. Don't curse me people but i generally don't like Van Damme. But this single dialogue is... amazing- the emotion in his eyes, the feeling... just... amazing
And after seeing this I could see why he turned down Stallone's offer to be in The Expendables. I see JC in a whole new light. He should stick with indie directors who could utilize his strength as an actor. Fuck Hollywood, they want to humiliate him and make him look like a has been clown instead of an insightful actor with depth that he is.
Jean Claude is brilliant. Completely underrated and hated for no apparent reason. The man fell into the traps of wealth and unfortunately got addicted to cocaine. A terrible thing to happen to a good person. But this monologue bares his soul and speaks directly to the fans....something no one else would do. He had and will always will have my respect.
This is where we all learn that behind a strong kick there can be a sensitive heart. VD I grew up with your movies no matter how bad most of them were. You were part of my retro life and I won't exchange it for anything. Long live VD!
A friend told me about this monologue the other day, so I had to watch it. And I'm glad I did. Van Damme has always had great action movies, but now i can respect him that much more.
Truly one of the best monologues I have ever heard! I seriously cried my eyes out at the end. I am also disappointed that he didn't get more awards for this movie. Truly Van Dammes best movie of all time!
I wouldn't give him an oscar for this scene, since this is clearly Jean-Claude van Damme speaking for himself as a person and not as the character of a film. This is his personal manifesto for WHY he cooperated with this film.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing the real Jean-Claude and I'm curious to see what his new movie career is going to bring. If he truely is the modest and scarred wise man he appears to be, I wish him all the best life has to offer.
When i saw this monologue i cried. I think that this is his best performance because it came straight from the heart and you finally see a different side of him. I respect you jean claude and so do many more. xx
JCVD was my absolute hero when I was growing up. I remember renting bloodsport and Kickboxer every week for like 2 months. He is just amazing..one of those actors I want to meet at some point. Already met Bruce Campbell, now after Van-Damme, I'm set.
He deserves an OSCAR for this scene ALONE!...the movie had a lota holes but Van dam was just awesome!...did i say AWESOME? lol 9.5/10 for the movie, 20/10 for this scene :D
I heard about this film a while back and wanted to see it but it never came out in theaters. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen it come out period - anywhere! Why not? Judging just by this scene alone I can tell this has to be good. I can't wait to see the whole thing for myself.
Its so hard watching this, Jean Claude was like a definitive piece of American culture for that fleeting period of the late 80s and early to mid 90s and to see him this way it just ages me...I feel like it ages our entire generation......Jean Claude is a hero in so many ways...This is a brilliant movie about a iconic man, and Im so glad it was made!
I agree. And his potential didn't get maximized because of Hollywood screwing him over. But I suppose what we got was better than nothing. I'll still watch his movies though. Just because it's him.
Awsome monologe. I usually like subtitles more but i saw the dubbed version the first time i saw the movie and it is equally as moving when spoken in his heavey accented english. Greatest Van Dame movie ever. Period.
I seriously started crying during this monologue. JCVD needs to get into serious acting because he nails this movie. (Yes, I know he's playing himself, but still).
OMG I love this guy!...He's like my older brother! I think Jean Claude was a victim of Hollywood. He was too nice and too pure for such a dirty environment as Hollywood. He must have had lots of deceptions and now he's back with one of the most touching and honest monologues I've ever seen in movie history...sharing his truth, sharing his pain, sharing his humbleness and pain...completely childlike, completely honest!
Very nicely put and probably the greatest thing i have ever seen in front of a camera. I watched the film last night and when it came to this scene i just did not expect it! .. I sat silent for at least 30 minutes.
This monologue is bloody raw! It is so damned in its explicit reflection of a tortured man enslaved by his own imperfections that it is almost forbidden. This is acting per se, for such a description would only belittle the effect it produces for those of us who have come to know our immortality. Jean Claude Van Damme has given us one of the greatest cinematic moments of all time...
you really have to watch the movie all the way through to get the full effect from the monologue... touching stuff, u can tell he's speakin from his heart about all the stuff he's saying
wtf, people this is serious, he is talking about the people who control the world they have been killing and want to keep killing millions , wake up people, there is many good videos about mason secret in here on youtube
I'm thinking of a rolling stone cover, i saw as a teenager. " jean claud "i just want to be taken seriously... yeah right" that being said i've never seen a cross over from action to actual cinema done so brilliantly, or passionately... then again rolling stone magazine sucked then and sucks now.
Amazing so much honesty on this man, Lisn up people i always thought he was a good actor, i hated when people called him a bad actor, iu mean he did action films you idiots, to me he can do any role, from actionto drama, and those who call him a bad actor, please get a life and stop stomping other poples work.
Brilliant monologue, but who is it directed to? (I haven't seen the entire film yet). It almost seems as if he is addressing God in the beginning, but perhaps the prior scene makes hat more apparent?
This is very good, i've been a fan since i was a kid..i will admit i was like everybody else when his movies stop goin to the big screen i kinda stop checking for him...but i definately wanna check this movie out...
He is truly amazing in this. Candid, ballsy and vulnerable from start to finish. It's been great to watch him evolve as an actor and a person through the course of his career. he never once stopped trying to be better. Not once.
he is not fake..he never been a fake action star...but today look at holywood...what do you see? is jason statham an action star? Matt Damon? or stupid keanu reeves? i think no..but van damme is real..welcome back VAN DAMME
he had a lot of courage to say what he is saying because it is real with explanation!!!

Bonne chance, Jean-Claude !

When i saw this monologue i cried. I think that this is his best performance because it came straight from the heart and you finally see a different side of him. I respect you jean claude and so do many more. xx

One of the most remarkable uncut monologues I have ever seen, delivered in the film "JCVD" by Jean Claude Van Damme.

Agree with everyone, this scene made the movie. he took a major risk with this and it was beautiful to see him in such an honest and revealing role.

StChiara 2 years ago 9
I agree. And his potential didn't get maximized because of Hollywood screwing him over. But I suppose what we got was better than nothing. I'll still watch his movies though. Just because it's him.

He is great. I hope he can get some real, serious roles after this, that utilize his great acting ability!

Best part of the entire film. This monologue alone gave me newfound respect for Jean-Claude as an actor and a person. Absolutely brilliant.

JCVD- a totally under-rated, ingenious film where the line between fiction and reality is blurred and Van Damme gives the performance of his career.

He must have had lots of deceptions and now he's back with one of the most touching and honest monologues I've ever seen in movie history...sharing his truth, sharing his pain, sharing his humbleness and pain...completely childlike, completely honest!
leopoldvs 2 years ago 9
Very nicely put and probably the greatest thing i have ever seen in front of a camera. I watched the film last night and when it came to this scene i just did not expect it! .. I sat silent for at least 30 minutes.

This monologue is bloody raw! It is so damned in its explicit reflection of a tortured man enslaved by his own imperfections that it is almost forbidden. This is acting per se, for such a description would only belittle the effect it produces for those of us who have come to know our immortality. Jean Claude Van Damme has given us one of the greatest cinematic moments of all time...
Monshuai 2 years ago 6
Uhhm, don't you mean mortality? I'm pretty sure that's what most of us are dealing with, unless you happen to be Christopher Lambert or some shit.
Alkaline850 2 years ago 2
you really have to watch the movie all the way through to get the full effect from the monologue... touching stuff, u can tell he's speakin from his heart about all the stuff he's saying

Thanks for posting,

This is very good, i've been a fan since i was a kid..i will admit i was like everybody else when his movies stop goin to the big screen i kinda stop checking for him...but i definately wanna check this movie out...

He is truly amazing in this. Candid, ballsy and vulnerable from start to finish. It's been great to watch him evolve as an actor and a person through the course of his career. he never once stopped trying to be better. Not once.
It's a crime he was ever discounted by anyone.
