  • he had a lot of courage to say what he is saying because it is real with explanation!!!

  • Wow this guy can actually act. Much respect, may have to check out the entire film.

  • There is a reason Van Damme is on Expendables 2 and Seagal isn't. Van Damme is a real person with real person experience and BTW a former professional karate fighter. Seagal is a 300 lb lardass who's "Achievements" in the martial arts are based on bullshit and traditional fairy tales and BTW he's a freakin guy who cheats on his wife. And is overweight X10. The real reason why Seagal couldn't make the Expendables? HE'S TOO DAMN FUCKING FAT!

  • Wow. I still haven't seen the whole movie, but that was HUGE. Very impressed. Ofcourse it goes with out saying that JCVD brought joy and entertainment to the world through his movies. And I hope he continues to do so. Can't wait for EX2.

  • it takes alot of balls to be this honest

  • my tear fell out. I never seen him like this..A new person with feelings..He deserves more than an applause..He deserves and Oscar or an award for his success

  • in a simply human way (read:not gay), i love you Jean Claude. you put up with a lot to get to the top. it was a hard climb. then you had some less than fortunate events. and now you are more human for it. you inspired me in your roles as i grew up. and now i see, that as i grew up to be a man, you grew to be a real man. fallible. with emotion. not bullet proof or unbeaten like your characters you portray. your tears are real, as are the ones on my face as i see this. thank you

  • Oh and also Tong Po!

  • Mr. Van Damme... Winner of the Kumite of our hearts... When I was a kid you beat Chong Li, the Sand Man, the Chinese Triad, Atilla, and that guy from Time Cop... You helped make me who I am today. You've influenced many people to become better people. You need to knock that shit off. Frank Dux wouldn't take life lying down and neither should Jean Claude Van Damme. You're awesome my friend.

  • This guy is excellent!

  • you are my hero!

  • dont feel let down....for millions of us who grew up watching your movies you are and always will be a god.

  • @Zeitgeist6: Ye heard that from many people around me that didn't like him before. Even if i liked a couple of movies of him he did in the 80s, this was the best performance ever.

I hope i will see more movies in this genre by JC now

  • This is highly appreciated because, it was real, not an act. Everyone got teary eyed to this. Van Damme is and will always be the man.

  • whoever disliked this has no heart!!!

  • Without a doubt a very good scene for Jean-Claude. He definitely shows a lot of heart; swinging for the fences. This is certainly a fusion of facts and fiction, but it's a good way for him to set his record straight.

  • Van Damme should Have received an Oscar for this . . Fucking Shame to see all thoses other's getting more than they deserve .. Remember . . .

Al Pacino has just won 1 Academy Award for Best Actor

    Scent of a Woman (1992)? & . ..

Robert De Niro just 2 for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor In the Godfather Part II (1974) &

Academy Award for Best Actor In Raging Bull (1980)

Does that sound right to you? ? Academy Award's for Best Actor

  • I felt totally guilty when I saw this part of the movie. Now I don't give any fuck and just admit that I am a fanatic of Van Damme......

  • i paused at 1:37 :D

  • rewatched JCVD today. I was never a big fan of Van Damme (I'm not into action much) but this is a good movie and it shows the guyhas actual acting talent. So much respect to him for having the balls to try something different and succeeding.

  • This is actually really, really touching. An amazing performance.

  • I don't like it when people say things like "Oh what is he moning about he has it all!". Film stars are HUMAN at the end of the day and have emotions just like us. It makes total sense to me what he says about wanting more and so turning to drugs etc. All the money in the world does not equal happiness. He is simply talking about his situation and the way he feels and whats wrong with that. Nobody really knows how they would feel in his situation we can only empathize. Think about it.

  • FENOMENAL ACTOR ! BRILLIANT DRAMATIC PERFORMANCE !

  • his acting standard is equal to Robert De Niro! is action is closed to Bruce Lee! JCVD is total package where fuckup Hollywood rich fagots toss away! Hail Van Damme

  • I know this was a fictional movie, but this part feels like a real emotion had come out of him.

  • @Kiley710 That's because it was real. The director separated Van Damme from the rest of the set when he filmed this and just let him speak. He earned my respect for putting himself out there like this.

  • @PsychoGemini

wow...thats deep. didnt know that^^. now im really eager to check out the movie. now i see why so much emotion was put into that part it was so good i was fuckin confused like wait..is he acting or is he serious? that was a smart as way for him to get that emotion out. haha certain actors out there should try that for emotional roles. If fuckin van damme could pull that off (VAN FUCKIN DAMME??) almost anyone can do it haha

  • amazing

  • I DONT UNDERSTAND .. ALL THSI he talks about is normal its not even deep or emotional . BUT HE IS VERY DEEP AND EMOTIONAL .... am i not understanding somethings is there things said here that are between the lines?

because i dont understand what he complains about ..... at first i thought I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.. when i did knokw it was all very shallow and not even truly sad or strange.. can someone help?

  • @TheRogueMonk what he said is to be expected for us all i mean no one had it easy to become something but he is making such a big deal out of it ... so i think maybe he is trying to say much more then he just did and i am not understanding what lies in between his words... can someone help me understand?

to me its all " i thought i would be a great star but no one cared " but obviously he did get a star and we care we are watching. so i dont get it

  • @TheRogueMonk He is talking about life in general, he stating that he lost his way when he achieved his dream. That young boy in Belgium who believed in people and believed in the samurai code is lost; and he would give everything back for him. But, alas; he knows it is too late.

  • @idreem2 i like your versiion of it a- lot . . i dont think its too late because to me jcvd always respected the budo and he has almost never played a role that disgrace the code of martial arts, even when he played a bad guy he was a disciplined bad guy.. he has done a great job for karate and to me he isone of the best characters that i know to follow when it comes to martial arts..

i thought he always was true to the martial art and promoted it with great character.. dont you agree?

  • @idreem2much maybe the translation i watched before was not so good.. i watched it again and maked more sense... man van damme is awesome i this movie i liked his speech its really close to center

  • @TheRogueMonk he speaks about his life, the ideals and illusions he had before going to usa and his downfall.

  • incredible, if only he could've shown more of this earlier on in his career.

  • it actually hurt a little to watch that. I'll never doubt JCVD's acting chops again.

  • @blasphemator YES

  • Oss!

  • Les Jacques Brel des arts martiaux!

  • So long as he accepts the J.C. in JCVD he'll be alright

  • wow....just wow

  • you did do s.t with your life.you changed mine!

  • Je comprend.

  • Why did u cut early? Upload the whole thing u cunt

  • How can he say he's done nothing...He took out Fender!!!

  • @PumaSweat He took out a guy's eye in the same movie as well !

    Search "JCVD Timothy Baker"....

  • @Phavonic FOR REAL !!! LOL! Maybe he'll were those boots with the toe knife when he fights Kamsing!

  • @PumaSweat Or rope gloves smothered in broken glass !

  • Sometimes people in show business say: "We are going to fuck him"

    That's so true.

  • Quel bonheur d'entendre JCVD parler en français. En fait il est flamand pas vallon, mais il parle parfaitement le français.

  • brilliant!

  • how can i watch a version of it with english subtitles online? pm me please

  • Jesus-Muhhamed-Zoroaster-Buddha all in one. So full of WIN.

  • First time, seriously I wanted to cry. Like many of you I was a kid when Bloodsport/Kicboxer etc. came out and JCVD was the shit back then. I'm from Montreal and I met GSP no so long ago and we talked about this, van damme was his idol as a kid. But the thing is that I lost his track growing up and when he was doing movies not longer on the big radar. But than, I saw that movie and watching him talking like that with a adult mind, its a totally different vision of the man. Its sad and great.

  • The best monologue I've seen EVER! No B.S.; just straight from the heart to us. It doesn't get any better than JCVD.

  • i hope everybody knows this is from his movie he made? like it was a movie!!!

  • This monologue is fantastic!

  • damn dude you always were my heroe

  • you are so pure,, you have so big heart,,you have so pure soul like diamond ,any time this diamond have some dust just a clean touch it and you shine again just like a diamond ,,,,we LOVE you Lion heart GOD Bless you,,

  • @apollosefo LMFAO

  • JEAN CLAUDE FTW

  • this is a nice turn for van damme he should of won an oscar for his strong performance

  • Genius! I've always liked him:)

  • I can feel his pain and the emotions that he gives out. A man that deserves love and respect. He is a great actor and should of gotten an Oscar nod for this. The Oscar people are old foggies that only see the action movies he did and not beyond it.

  • Double U. Oh. Double U.

  • Truly lovely

  • Jean Claude is sooooooo incredibly much more than just a good fighter. His qualities and talents, his expressiveness is amazing and THIS film JVCD is really his BEST.

He´s just wonderful and people shouldn´t believe everything about him in the press. Jean Claude you are just wonderful.

  • I've heard rumors about his drug use and his domestic violence. But this is truly a proclamation of a changed man!

  • "Never judge people from their outside looks" This part of the movie proves it! I love this guy since childhood and he is the reason why I love martial arts today. He has the muscles but also a nice and brave heart where he can open it to the whole world out there. I don't know many people who can do this in front of a camera. I never thought bad about this guy. He is actually a well cultured-nice guy. Anyways, this part made me cry and the things coming out of his mouth are simply beautiful...

  • Have idolized Van Damme ever since I was a litlle kid. Thought I was tricked, but maybe I wasn't.. Hope he follows a better path now..

  • wow this was amazing.

  • Wow never heard of this movie until 10 mins before I clicked this on and had no clue he was Belgium. Learn something new everyday ;).

  • happy birthday JCVD!

  • That was really moving. No kidding.

  • now he does most of his movies in Romania!

  • Wow...this is amazing.

  • omg omg wooow i cant talk

  • i feel for him i was in a big bad and toured and recorded for over 10 years,,and it cost me everything i got, wife, kid, house, health, soul, mental well being.I now record at home and hire a drummer now and again,,i feel for him

  • OSCAR

  • hmm. is he broke and need to do a comeback?

  • I recall reading in a magazine that this wasn't entirely a scripted scene, but he opened up, had a full breakdown; the director kept filming, which was why the set ceiling was scrolling. In a way, it was JCVD's way of apologizing to his many fans.

  • Why the fuck didn't he get an Oscar??! This monologue alone is a reason why he should have an Oscar!!! This is the most touching and heart-filled monologue I've ever heard! Jean Claude. You're simply the best!!

  • this monologue is a movie on it's own. Don't curse me people but i generally don't like Van Damme. But this single dialogue is... amazing- the emotion in his eyes, the feeling... just... amazing

  • And after seeing this I could see why he turned down Stallone's offer to be in The Expendables. I see JC in a whole new light. He should stick with indie directors who could utilize his strength as an actor. Fuck Hollywood, they want to humiliate him and make him look like a has been clown instead of an insightful actor with depth that he is.

  • Jean Claude is brilliant. Completely underrated and hated for no apparent reason. The man fell into the traps of wealth and unfortunately got addicted to cocaine. A terrible thing to happen to a good person. But this monologue bares his soul and speaks directly to the fans....something no one else would do. He had and will always will have my respect.

  • I remember watching this for the first time and the only thing I kept thinking was "This is what screenwriting is all about."

  • @FanzReviews

I remember the first time I watched this too.

Needless to say, we conceived that night.....

  • This is where we all learn that behind a strong kick there can be a sensitive heart. VD I grew up with your movies no matter how bad most of them were. You were part of my retro life and I won't exchange it for anything. Long live VD!

  • A friend told me about this monologue the other day, so I had to watch it. And I'm glad I did. Van Damme has always had great action movies, but now i can respect him that much more.

  • in french subtil this is not "the tiger in the cage" but "the tiger of the cage" not the same sens.

  • Love this monologue doing it for theatre class

  • Truly one of the best monologues I have ever heard! I seriously cried my eyes out at the end. I am also disappointed that he didn't get more awards for this movie. Truly Van Dammes best movie of all time!

  • JCVD is a great actor who never got with a great director, a real shame

  • lets fuck him

  • Bravo.

    I am deeply moved.

This is not acting - this is being.

  • Dude, this is not real...it was just a movie...

  • makes shakespere's asides look like elemantary babble!!!

  • I wouldn't give him an oscar for this scene, since this is clearly Jean-Claude van Damme speaking for himself as a person and not as the character of a film. This is his personal manifesto for WHY he cooperated with this film.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing the real Jean-Claude and I'm curious to see what his new movie career is going to bring. If he truely is the modest and scarred wise man he appears to be, I wish him all the best life has to offer.

    Bonne chance, Jean-Claude !

  • Osu! C'est samurai, c'est droit, c'est pas mensonge. Wonderful, i love you JCVD

  • @DocePares11 Osu !

  • I never thought of him as a great actor until I saw this. Fantastic!

  • I thought the same thing, I was blown away.

  • When i saw this monologue i cried. I think that this is his best performance because it came straight from the heart and you finally see a different side of him. I respect you jean claude and so do many more. xx

  • One of the most remarkable uncut monologues I have ever seen, delivered in the film "JCVD" by Jean Claude Van Damme.

  • JCVD was my absolute hero when I was growing up. I remember renting bloodsport and Kickboxer every week for like 2 months. He is just amazing..one of those actors I want to meet at some point. Already met Bruce Campbell, now after Van-Damme, I'm set.

  • He deserves an OSCAR for this scene ALONE!...the movie had a lota holes but Van dam was just awesome!...did i say AWESOME? lol 9.5/10 for the movie, 20/10 for this scene :D

  • Bravo! Bravisimo! Great film and great acting.

  • I heard about this film a while back and wanted to see it but it never came out in theaters. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen it come out period - anywhere! Why not? Judging just by this scene alone I can tell this has to be good. I can't wait to see the whole thing for myself.

  • Agree with everyone, this scene made the movie. he took a major risk with this and it was beautiful to see him in such an honest and revealing role.

  • fuck the academy for overlooking van damme

  • Its so hard watching this, Jean Claude was like a definitive piece of American culture for that fleeting period of the late 80s and early to mid 90s and to see him this way it just ages me...I feel like it ages our entire generation......Jean Claude is a hero in so many ways...This is a brilliant movie about a iconic man, and Im so glad it was made!

  • I agree. And his potential didn't get maximized because of Hollywood screwing him over. But I suppose what we got was better than nothing. I'll still watch his movies though. Just because it's him.

  • He is great. I hope he can get some real, serious roles after this, that utilize his great acting ability!

  • beautiful and amazing.

  • Best part of the entire film. This monologue alone gave me newfound respect for Jean-Claude as an actor and a person. Absolutely brilliant.

  • JCVD- a totally under-rated, ingenious film where the line between fiction and reality is blurred and Van Damme gives the performance of his career.

  • This scene made the film! he doesnt have enough respect 4 it!

  • real talk

  • JCVD is no joke. Brilliant scene

  • Amazing didn't know he had it in him very moving.

  • Indeed oscar winning material; JC RESPECT!!!

  • Awsome monologe. I usually like subtitles more but i saw the dubbed version the first time i saw the movie and it is equally as moving when spoken in his heavey accented english. Greatest Van Dame movie ever. Period.

  • sensei !!!! ganbate !!!!!!

  • The monologue Van Damme did in this film was nothing short of brilliant.

  • I seriously started crying during this monologue. JCVD needs to get into serious acting because he nails this movie. (Yes, I know he's playing himself, but still).

  • JCVD's on a comeback!

  • wow. Van Damme is amazing! Great monologue!

  • ...damn sir...

  • OMG I love this guy!...He's like my older brother! I think Jean Claude was a victim of Hollywood. He was too nice and too pure for such a dirty environment as Hollywood. He must have had lots of deceptions and now he's back with one of the most touching and honest monologues I've ever seen in movie history...sharing his truth, sharing his pain, sharing his humbleness and pain...completely childlike, completely honest!

  • Very nicely put and probably the greatest thing i have ever seen in front of a camera. I watched the film last night and when it came to this scene i just did not expect it! .. I sat silent for at least 30 minutes.

  • This monologue is bloody raw! It is so damned in its explicit reflection of a tortured man enslaved by his own imperfections that it is almost forbidden. This is acting per se, for such a description would only belittle the effect it produces for those of us who have come to know our immortality. Jean Claude Van Damme has given us one of the greatest cinematic moments of all time...

  • Uhhm, don't you mean mortality? I'm pretty sure that's what most of us are dealing with, unless you happen to be Christopher Lambert or some shit.

  • you really have to watch the movie all the way through to get the full effect from the monologue... touching stuff, u can tell he's speakin from his heart about all the stuff he's saying

  • Don't take advantage of this monologue for your own greedy means

  • Absolutely amazing scene, so much honesty and baring of his soul. Much respect JCVD.

  • I'm thinking of a rolling stone cover, i saw as a teenager. " jean claud "i just want to be taken seriously... yeah right" that being said i've never seen a cross over from action to actual cinema done so brilliantly, or passionately... then again rolling stone magazine sucked then and sucks now.

  • Fils de pute, it's you the loser, son of bitch

  • Amazing so much honesty on this man, Lisn up people i always thought he was a good actor, i hated when people called him a bad actor, iu mean he did action films you idiots, to me he can do any role, from actionto drama, and those who call him a bad actor, please get a life and stop stomping other poples work.

  • Thank you for the Eng sub, because when I was watching the movie that I really want to know what he's saying!

  • Brilliant monologue, but who is it directed to? (I haven't seen the entire film yet). It almost seems as if he is addressing God in the beginning, but perhaps the prior scene makes hat more apparent?

    Thanks for posting,

    IG

  • he's not adressing god, he is addressing us.

  • This is very good, i've been a fan since i was a kid..i will admit i was like everybody else when his movies stop goin to the big screen i kinda stop checking for him...but i definately wanna check this movie out...

  • He is truly amazing in this. Candid, ballsy and vulnerable from start to finish. It's been great to watch him evolve as an actor and a person through the course of his career. he never once stopped trying to be better. Not once.

It's a crime he was ever discounted by anyone.

  • great belgian actor!

  • he is not fake..he never been a fake action star...but today look at holywood...what do you see? is jason statham an action star? Matt Damon? or stupid keanu reeves? i think no..but van damme is real..welcome back VAN DAMME

  • awesome actor man i would've never guessed it. fav actor from here on out...will watch anything he does here on.

  • Never new this dude could act. I think we can expect some good things from in the future (I hope anyway)

  • perfect havent seen a good movie in a wille. really great van damme

  • This scene made the film for me, amazing performance.

  • definitely agreed. i was amused but on this fence about this film until seeing this monologue.

  • Wow.

  • Great job Jean-Claude! I watched you since i was a kid...very nice surprise! Wish you a happy life!
