@neilemac Not making a big deal out of it, but the word "aught" means: all, everything. "Ought" means: should. Right, so.. Captain Grammar is desperately needed elsewhere! Away!
The goal of the rich elites, and ruling interests in this country is the "Third Worldization" of America. It's part of their larger goal of the "Third Worldization" of the great mass of humanity. But, they're going to find out what it's like when HUGE numbers of Americans begin, and continue to resist this ugly goal. I see the Occupy Movement as a hopeful first step in redressing the horrible inequity and injustice of our present system.
Was wondering when the courageous would take 'occupy' to the next level; it aught to have been from the first one from outset. What good are empty houses ...to anyone?
To me this is the paramount movement the occupier's have made. It goes straight to the root of the problem. Predatory lenders took advantage of ill informed people, knowing that they could make a fast buck in the initial sale and even more money on the bets that that mortgage would fail. AND THEY ARE STILL DOING IT!! And congress, as I write, are fighting the nomination of the Head of Consumer Protection Agency! We are at war people..pick a side!
Having a homeless family live in these foreclosed homes and maintain them would actually save the banks money. An empty house is a magnet for drug traffickers and other criminals, who would otherwise do huge amounts of damage to these homes.
So you're just going to lampshade the whole legal issue? I signed up to fight/protest the aristocracy taking a steaming dump of those below them not bail people out of holes they dug themselves. This is using power to ignore the law, y'know the thing the 1% is doing?
My opinion about repossession: It's all bullshit. These banks refuse homeowners the opportunity to refinance at every turn when times get worse, then simply seize those homes when they are defaulted -- then STILL go after the homeowners for the amount of the debt, even though the home the debt was for no longer belongs to them.
As long as the banks grind honest citizens into the ground I have no sympathy for any of them whatsoever!
I am weeping crocodile tears for the 'poor' bankers. The poor bastards - they are just trying to make a buck. I hope their evil machinations come back on them - big-time.
the foreclosers effect the entire comunity as well so everybody on the street suffers their house value goes down and this is a super duper ha bisky upload and the banks lied to the people for the most part
and for the millionaires out there. You think you're immune? Think again. You are not the uber rich and you are not the 1% especially if you're making below 500 million. You are no where near the upper class. You are the upper middle class, the global middle class, but you are not the super rich. You are not immune from this!!
@wackyal3000 There's nothing wrong with capitalism HOWEVER what's happening in US today isn't capitalism IT'S CORPORATISM !!! I would never want for this country to merge or join a union like the E.U many countries involved have lost significant amount of national sovereignty.
@wackyal3000 not really thats kinda the reason the uk is in a shit storm right now, and why a good bit of europe cant pay their debts (pointless public spending)
we dont need the system we have and we definately dont need that one (yet) or we'll get put even further under, we need to find a good middle ground between the system we have that generates more revenue and also cuts spending on stuff we actually spend money on, capitolism and socialism separately dont do either very well
Whether or not you are a supporter of President Obama; It is interesting to see that he is running his re-election campaign as a supporter of the occupy movement's core principles. This is a clear indication that Obama at least, recognises that the majority of Americans support or at least, sympathise with the occupy movement.
"Where a bank has bundled and sold a mortgage, it doesn't have the right to foreclose" - That's knowledge and research!: Better than confronationalism any day!
This is an interesting conundrum resulting from the seeds of democracy planted centuries ago but not really allowed to grow naturally, the plant has always been trussed somehow to grow in one direction or another starting with the struggle between Jefferson and Hamilton. This country is really a paradoxical experiment that needs constant tweaking by its citizens if you want it to live true to the original framers intent. Currently in the banking system vs the people issue there has to be balance.
this is why I love democracy because it is a system allowed to be manipulated, and change can be fostered. No one would dare do this in PRC or even in Singapore.
@lordblazer Yep, and right now the Hamiltonians have a utopia and Jeffersonians live in a nightmare. #Occupy equals a necessary paradigm shift toward balance.
@davewalwark Yeah, a manifesto forged by a bunch of powdered wig wearing aristocrats and a few slave owners probably could use some new ideas. Fortunately as you know, we can make amendments, and that's just what #occupy is going for, I hope.
Oh wait, you meant NEW ideas....as in revolutionary:)
This is amazing. When the camera moved up to look out the window, my heart was full at the sight of that tremendous crowd. They'll need to call in the fucking military and start gunning people down if they ever want to end this unstoppable tsunami that is Occupy.
@chakazulu87 I wasn't wishing death on people. I'm sorry that's how you read it. I was just stating the measures that the 1% would have to exert to even attempt to stop us.
Why fight progress!!!??? Don't hate your Corporate overlords! Let them write all our laws and financially enslave us! Embrace them, so that you too may be able to work 12 hours for 25 cents a day in unsafe working conditions, all while breathing toxic air and consuming tainted "food". Some day soon we can all live with a truly "free" unregulated economy and be just like most other 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES.
@TheRetiredtrucker More like.. The bank lends you money to buy a house. The banks crash the economy, causing to loose your job. Since you can no longer afford to pay the bank, they foreclose on you.
Does that seem fair? Do you see what the problem is now?
Its not like these are lazy people.. They are the people who got fucked over by the banks in the first place.
@MNICY exactly. too easy credit, a plethora of "flip the house" kinds of television shows, etc... encouraged people to buy or trade up, and the banksters new full well they would pop the bubble and then reap the rewards. it was a total setup, and it's nothing new.
@MNICY ,,,, but what happened in MOST cases was either speculators doing a quick flip and sell, or people who had no business whatsoever attempting to buy a house didn't do their homework and got in over their heads. Simple formula, never get a mortgage that's more then 1/3rd of your income, and factor that in when your contract says that after 3 years the rates will adjust. They were called "Teaser Rates" for a reason
@TheRetiredtrucker perhaps you haven't been reading the papers lately. non payment is a very small part of the issue. fraud on the part of the largest financials houses is a very large part of the issue. time to do your homework.
@chrstsldr Fraud how? The sub prime mortugages said in black and white that after a specific term the rates would readjust. Most of the mortgage fraud were the people who claimed to make more money then they did when they applied for the loans. Why would the bank lend $150,000 to a family making $40k a year? Do YOUR homework, was greed on the banks part as well but the majority of the foreclosures are justified. Now responsible people can buy more affordable homes.
@chrstsldr They went to the Banks to get money to buy a house, they didn't qualify for or didn't want traditional 20 year fixed mortugages. Went for the sub prime or variables. Lot of these people didn't even put down 20% to get in, so when the bubble burst they were upside down they walked away from them, leaving the banks holding the bag (ya bundling was a very bad idea, but that didn't cause the people to walk away, loaning money to irresponsible people did)
@chrstsldr What about the neighbours of these foreclosed homes? Their property value drops because of this too. Not everyone can afford to own a home, sorry but that's how it works. Banks were irresponsible by taking the bad loans, but, the government (Freddie and Fannie) backed them up, no risk to the bank, they gave money to anyone. But to say people can refuse to pay (either cant afford or just wont pay) and keep the property is also wrong. Sell to someone who can afford
clearly they should have known the economy would collapse and they would lose their jobs, despite having to live paycheck to paycheck beforehand they should have 1 million dollars of a rainy day saved up but they do not and so they deserve to be homeless, and to eat garbage. /sarcasm.
Maybe I'm being too judgemental on Americans for being ultra consumerists... After all the system itself was set up for failure... This housing problem came about from short foresight and poor planning on both sides. I think however, that more important matters press us right now... NDAA of 2012 as an example... a disguised martial law in progress.
I support the cause against the corrupted banking and corporate system we currently have, however, I think people should be held accountable for their actions on both sides of the spectrum. Americans have gone too far with reckless money-borrowing without true necessity. My family became wealthy through hard work and saving money, always kept honesty above all as any small bourgeoisie has to. The flaw here in American mentality of spending more than what you have.
@luciferiexcelsil I agree with your statement except for the fact that I believe that people should never have to suffer from being unable to afford basics like healthcare and food.
also, who owns how much why? isnt it bad if people cannot afford homes while there's lots of empty ones?
since the economy does not reward hard work equally depending on the actual value of the work people do, i believe it is wrong to judge the poor by denying them the basic human needs.
@Fappsu I agree to some extent... However I think that a house and food should also be worked for to be attained, so instead of food and shelter being given, means to get theses basic needs should be given instead. I simply wouldn't think fair for someone to benefit from a system that's not getting any benefit back... Not too fond with leeches (Both rich and poor leeches for that matter). I'm not saying these people are leeches, I'm just stating something I fear and despise.
@luciferiexcelsil well yes i agree myself that social security itself needes to be reformed as it was made at a time when you woudl gro old enogugh you could not ork, but wiht the additon of technology you can work until a very old age.
