  • hahaha cool

  • one small flake every 5 minutes, poor dog..

  • i want to build something like this for when i get pet rats, something that can feed them at fixed hours while im not around.

  • Wow, mustive took u months, now u dont have to feed it all the time, the robots can do it 4 u :D

  • That is fucking awesome teach me how to build and program that

  • That's like that breakfast machine from Family Guy that shoots Peter in the end. lol

  • I think the dog deserves a steak right off the bbq and sliced up and served by the robot. Has the Buddah been stealing anyway wayward treats?

  • Now if you get the dog to IM herself, that'd really be cool. ;)

  • Hahahaahah wow that took forever and it was olny one treat hahahaha

  • friggin' cool man.

  • OMFG! this takes forever! just do it the classic way. pick up the damn treat and give it to the dog!

  • And if you'r dog learn english.?

  • thats cool

  • love this!

  • thats cool

  • thats awesome, though, the dog doesnt attack the machine ever?

  • The dog will die because the robot is to slow :)

  • I can tell this is built on the RoboArm T-56 base and since it uses worm gears makes it have high torque but yes, it does it turn make it slow.

  • happy dog? she must be starving..mindstorms is so slow..lol

  • hhaha, "one happy dog"

    great

  • nice but a better version would simply be a bucket with meachanisam that puts the treats on a convator belt and gives the dog a treat and its a faster prosses

  • hahahaha how funnyXD

  • thats great but you should find a way to quiet the sound cuz' i bet that could get annoying to hear. :)

  • shoot fill the bowl with more and make a command somehow saying feed dog and it drops a bunch =]

  • AMAZING. My dog would just destroy the robot and eat all the treats...

  • So, what's the IM link?

  • how does he make that?

  • dosent nxt turn off after like 5 minutes of not being used?

  • not when you get the optional AC adapter...

  • I have the longest continuing Internet dog feeder at I know of. It is a bit less complex, but it has two web cams so you can watch the action..

  • ONLY ONE!!?!?!? Sad for the dog :(

  • That treat was like a chocolate chip from a Chips Ahoy cookie..lol.poor dog,great vid,smart alek= SUBCRIBER!

  • LOL, amazing!

  • "wtf you stupid monkey only ONE TINY 1x1mm TREAT!?

  • nice

  • lol poor dog! he only got one piece of that treat!

  • your dog looks so annoyed lol .... think it needs to get a little more than one little treat at a time lol

  • no he's annoyed because it takes over a minute just to get ONE TREAT!

  • just make it faster

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol really cool but if any one in the world can do this at any time and see it on a web cam then the dog could get fat.

  • cool

  • this thing need a freaking triple action motor

  • Great idea

  • u are very smart ty for the vid

  • cool but u should give ur dog alittle more treat

  • nice! and funny

  • wouldn't IM make that noise to any IM sent to it, not just treat?

  • nope the IM program parses the word "treat" and only plays a sound for that

  • coolio

  • lmao thats awsome

  • Haha. "One happy dog" *eats it and walks away* Great invention though.

  • very cool!

  • I love the robot, i love the dog, i love this video! 5*

  • Good job the machine plays a 'Warning Sound' cos the dog would never hear that whirring noise eh.......

  • poor dog...

  • haha the dog thinks 'all that for 1 little treat'

  • sorry to be a pest

but i cant locate the word matching button all i see is animation

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! should go a bit faster tho lol but great job 5 star

  • WOW that dog must b happy!^_^

  • that must be going crazy being feed at that rate :]

  • how cool is that

  • ya i cant find it any where i go to

    trill pref.

    advance

    automation

    then can't find it

  • yeah it's a pain. in automation, look for "add..." button in bottom right corner, then "word matching," then check "generate event." other than that, you're on ur own.

  • lol anti stealer

  • Nice!

  • using Trillian (an IM program) - look back through all the comments and there's a really detailed exlpanation of how to use Automated Behaviors in trillian

  • is the dog a robot?

  • that was in reply to pjokk18

for some reason they always go up and never as a reply

  • i have a long legged jack russel and if i had that robot he would love it

  • u have a cute dog !

    and that's a nice robot !

  • Do you still have that robot?xD

Btw, for making a little looking "human" how many NXT sets do you need?(and i mean every part moving, like head and so on)also fingers, thanks for telling me

  • to many

  • what happens if many on you IM sends the word treat? xD does the robot take more treat then? or does it take the treats mutiple times?

  • i usually turn it off after a few treats, and probably spend more time tinkering to get it to work right than just letting dispense treats...

  • as soon as the dog got the treat (s)he looked like (s)he wanted another treat.

  • nice modification of the Robotic Arm from the intructions. But who am I kidding, I probably couldn't make that!

  • nice

  • Good job!! With this invention you can go on holiday without your dog. U only need 2 Computers(1 at home and 1 with u on holiday!)

  • you could prob train your dog to do things with that sound. it will associate that sound from the IM with a treat :)

  • that's how robots should be used. forget making a little race car...they should do something constructive.

  • Time to make one that takes out the dog! 5/5

  • lol! now you can feed dog from work!...i think.

  • impressive...i just dont understand what the microphone does from the computer

  • the mic triggers the program to run on the robot, since the word "treat" plays a sound on the computer. i'd rather do it over bluetooth, but haven't figured out how to do it so far.

  • Awesome idea. Kudos.

I would have loved to see a method that ensures giving a single treat.

Currently it looks like a matter of luck. Either grabbing one or more or none.

  • Now the dog will try to mimic you to try to type treat, and you might now have a smart dog.

  • Thats awesome!

  • thats not a treat thats aliitle peice of food lol

    ITS GUNNA STARVE!

  • it took way to long

  • fucking brilliant dude

  • poor dog lol it has to wait like 3 mins for the machine to give it a little treat.

  • lol, it would be funny if the dog learned to bark at a certain frequency to get a treat, lol

  • Pretty cool.

  • It seems waaay too fast. I would slow it down another 5-6 minutes or so.

  • =O

I need to do that. Now.

  • Wait... if it's triggered by sound, wouldn't it activate whenever the dog barks at it?

  • Obviously it's triggered by a specific sound.

  • Have you used Mindstorms NXT? I think he'd need to be using a third-party programming language thing for that to work, and he didn't mention that he was.

  • Well I guess I stand corrected. Maybe it's a volume thing, the robot's mic is right by the speaker...

  • Well, we can't know for sure until he tells us, so I sent him a message asking. :P

  • I set the mic trigger at 99% Decibal activation in the Mindstorms software, so only a super loud sound triggers it, and so far barking hasn't triggered it. The 3rd party Application i use is Trillian, and that just plays a sound to start the robot. But I have been thinking about switching to Bluetooth or a light sensor, because every once in a while it does get triggered by a loud sound...

  • pretty neat

  • cool robot. you could be at work and still feed your dog. but only one treat? for the time she has to wait she should get more than one. Fix it so it dumps some dog food in there so she doesnt starve.

  • Dog *Treats*, not dog food.

  • what's the dog's username?

  • Hey, I'll give you Honeybark treats for your robot! What a cute idea!

  • What Robot you use to fill the box with treat?

  • ...what happens if no one IMs her? does she DIE?! you lazy, lazy man! :P

great robot, though. and great dog!

  • what is the dog's username???

  • Awsone but poor dog he will starve to death befor gettin the treat :P

  • xD i no but it still cool

  • ¡¡¡¡ǝɯosǝʍɐ sɐʍ ʇɐɥʇ

  • how do you get the IM program to play a sound only when you type a certain word like you have done with treat.

  • I use Trillian Pro, and go to advanced preferences >> automation >> add word matching, then set up the event.

  • AWSOME!!! so if i IM treat the machine will give your dog a treat?

  • yep, although we need to setup the robot at our new office and hook up the webcams.

  • awsome

  • awsome

  • haha cool. good work :D

  • whats the msn addy

  • That's amazing. Found you googling for "remote control dog treats"---I was thinking if there was some way to automate my dogs getting treats when they go into their new crates, that'd make crate-training a snap. In my copious spare time I must find a robotics kit and see what I can hack together!

  • does the mindstorms turn on by itsself when the noise goes off?

  • No we have to leave it on and the program cycles back to the "wait for sound" mode, which seems to not suck too much power. Can't wait for that AC adapter to be ready for the NXT of course.

  • Cool!

  • it does seem like the can opener at the begining of Back to the future.

  • dont plan on your dog surviving your summer vacations,

  • That was a good idea!

  • Nice, though with the 99% volume setup, something tells me that your dog may end up learning that: Bark Loudly = Treat

  • ohmigod that's so funny

  • Creativity at its max!! cool

  • Genius!

  • omg thats a real torture for a dog :D

  • thats like torture for the dog

  • Haha -- that reminds me of the beginning of Back to the Future :)

  • max, i use the IM program Trillian, and go to advanced settings >> automation >> add event >> word parsing >> "treat", >> sound event. So Trillian waits for the word "treat" to be typed and when it is, it highlights it in yellow and plays a loud sound. On the NXT robot i set the mic sensor to wait for a volume of more than 99% (so regular noise won't trigger it) and then begin getting the treat. That way only the treat sound triggers the robot to start.

  • How did you make it work with IM? I'd really like to know.

  • Awesomeness. What's the screen name?

  • Man that is cool! I´ve done a Lego NXT robot like that, but I called Waiter Bot: it takes candys and put at the guest recipient :) Now I´m developing a Bluetooth control, for the guest choose one type of candy. The light sensor is used to identify the ype of candy, like a bar code. Soon I will put a video of it!
