I have both the robotech games for the xbox. This one is way better than the other(fps) If you watched the original cartoons, you will enjoy the decent cell-shaded graphics, makes it look like your playing the cartoons. Never tried the ps2 version, I assume its the same.
great ending? your kidding, so Archer drifting in space is a great ending? If you say so. Ive earned most of the medals in this game and im pretty good at this game or used to be. There was suppose to be a sequel for this game, but it didn't do well enough, so the ending is not great. But would have led into the sequel.

Its obvious you will not enjoy a game if you don't know how to play it. I enjoyed playing it, not as much as an arcade (like you probably did, shooting and just shooting, and not thinking logical ways to overcome adversity) but as a strategy game.

If the reviewer took the time to read the specifications you get for each weapon, will notice it can kill female zentraedi in 3 shots, instead of the 500 missiles you have to shoot like a moron if you know nothing about the weapons.
Cat's Eyes is as difficult as any other level you don't know. Just by looking this video, I can tell you are too slow and its obvious why you die always.

Man this game takes me back and yes the Cat Scan was and still is (if u have a ps2 and the game) indeed the HARDEIST MISSION IN THE GAME it me and my big bro at least 2 days i think maybe just all night to beat this level and i gave up but my bro eventualy beat it and to my shock couldnt belive he did or how for that matter but eventually i maneged to beat it all on my own multiple times too just goes to show you gotta cherrish good memories like this along with the love of the show GO ROBOTECH
I beat the entire game several times. Cat Scan took so long it wasn't even funny. It got blown up and It was stupid. I was pissed. The ending cut scene was sad.
ok i did passed the cat's scan mission, it was SO FUCKING ANOYING, i still dont beleive how i cleared it, i was 7 years ago, and still dont beleived, i got stucked on a mission where u have to chase some escape pod on the earth *not the one in space, thats first, the on im talking is almost at the end of CH 4*
@DensukeMifune21 yeah I got so raged on that mission and miraculously passed it one day but then I got stuck on another mission where I had to resque the tomahawk pilot stranded and guys came from everywhere! I tried everything but it does not clear the fact they made allied npcs so damn fragile, it's how the cat's eye mission got so annoying! the plane is damn fragile!
I actually beat the Cat Scan mission on its hardest difficulty, but I cannot blame you for not beating it. It is a hairpullingly frustrating level. Hate that damn level.
Actually....you can brake in gerwalk mode. Instead of pressing left or right for that mode (I forget which it was), you can tap down for "hover mode".....puts you in Guardian, but you don't constantly move forward. Very useful.
You know I always wished i had played this game but i could only afford to buy the GBA version which did have max sterling in it and you could play as him which really helped the mourning of lost chance.
trial by fire was way harder then cat scan but you can see it as more of a continuation of cat scan. it took me 5 times to beat it, again you got to stay sort of close with the cat eye and rape the decoy as well as follow it down into the atmosphere which will cause you to loose track of it in the heat of battle. you are all alone in this one. there are also a few much tougher enemies that are quite fast and can dodge your missiles, rape the decoys and keep up with the cat eye
Cat scan was really easy, you stay in Fighter mode and rape the decoys, remain around the cats eye (but not too close), only use your guns because when you use your missiles you diminish the amount of decoys you have (and it takes forever to regenerate), you need to attract their missiles from hitting the cats eye by using the decoys. fly around using your guns to take them out and then you should be in the clear. i did it only with two tries. first time i forgot about the decoys.
OMG I REMEMBER THAT MISSION CATS EYE!!! i was 7 AND i remember the trick was to stay away from teh shuttle because the enemies go after you not the shuttle
dude, Have you ever played elite or privateer? those were the most revolutionary of any time as they were the first free roaming games ever and everything has just been copied, but yeah that cats eye mission was retarded. I did beat it... But it took me four hours and lets never speak of it again lol.
When i was younger i stoped playing because of the Cats eye mission. But then i started playing again and i won!. Then i played it on hard and the only thing you need to do is kill the fighters, the green ones, not the blue ones, because the fighters are the ones that shoot missiles. Use the decoy too, good luck!
ugh the cats eye, a 'challenge' indeed. fun game not the best but fills a gaping void for the robotech macross fans stateside. plus, nowadays you can buy it at gamestop for under five bucks. ending wasnt what i was expecting...i wont spoil it. my brother and i would play this game, good times.
I beat the Cats eye mission the eight time I tried. After that always beat it despite the difficulty setting. The key is to stay constantly close to the Catseye. It may be more difficult to kill the enemy or even to effing spot them but the Zentrodi will aim at you first and the objective second. But just in case, ALWAYS use the flare when missiles come your way. Even if you don't detect them(DIFFICULT). because if they aren't going for you chances are they're going for he catseye.
@psycho2cool I agree....I use the same method as well.. Stay close to the Catseye and cover it from in-coming missles...Didn't go after the Zentrodi...Wait for them to come to you...
I really REALLY loved this review. it is great and in-depth and how this game is really rated. I beat the catseye mission. but I'm nto sure what diff. I was playing on. THAT WAS the hardest. I'm glad I'm not the only person to think it was impossible. But yeah, the Voices were great. I finished Macross not too long ago. the newly dubbed one? it is a good show. and people hate robotech but this game is pretty close to macross
lol ya Cat Scan is hard. But if you focus on just the Fighterepods and ignore everything else it's doable. The fighter pods are the only ones which commit to killing the cat's eye. The rest just harass you. Useflares to protect the cat's eye. I did it without the Valkyrie armor, but it would be so much ezer with it.
After the Cat's Eye mission, it gets easier. There are only a couple rough spots after that. And Crystal Dreams would have been amazing, I can't believe something like that could be done on N64. But if you want a good space flight sim look at Orbiter.
I bought this game a LONG time ago for the GameCube but stopped playing it because of the cats eye mission. I am thinking about rebuying it on eBay and trying it again but this time on my 360. Oh, and for those who don't know. All 85 episodes of the TV show are now on Netflix. I have been watching them like crazy. I am suffering from a flashback/nostalgia overdose.

I lol at h gaurdian mode complaint and the cat's eye mission complaint. Gaurdian mode you can be at a hover by pusshing down on the dpad and cats eye you just gotta focus on the fighter pods that come in. However you can spread docy flares around the object you are defending to destroy missiles.
@Cablo102 Macross' Pinpoint barrier is strong enough to take Wing Gundam0's TWB rifle shot.and If the TWB is used to many times SDF Macross' pinpoint barrier would explode.I forgot the radius of the explosion but it would be powerful enough to destroy WZ .Gundanium is damaged by high heat.
@Cablo102 I was wrong it can be damaged by beam weaponry.also It is the omnidirectional barrier that W0 would have problems with.that and the Macross' other weapons and of course the main cannon and Valk squad too.Macross has numbers and tech on its side.
@Cablo102 to rectify my mistake "p52 of the Gundam Wing tech manual states the Gundanium alloy used in the Gundams armor and the planet defensors is Highly HeatResistant. and virtually immune to corrosion but its still not immune to beam attacks."
@Cablo102 The Valkyries of that era weren't tech superior.However they're hyper manuverable.but VF19 VF21VF25&VF27 can hold their own against Gundams from eras AC,AW,UC,CE,andAD.But because Gundams can take a hit and have good enough mobility some Gundam vs Valkyrie matches will result in a stalemate.Also 1st transfoming MS ZETA was inspired by Macross Valkyries.

Not in the Invid flower since but in the advanced culture sense.Protoculture is the culture that predated man and Zentradi.The tech that both use comes from the Protoculture.however Dimesion eater missiles may be a combo of Zentradi and Human research .But Gundam is still advanced too F91!!!

My favorite Valkyrie is the YF-19 although the YF21 has a double edged tech advantage. another favorite is the Messiah.I love its shape.Favorite female characters Ishtar from Lover's again,Minmay,and Emilia Jenius.I still love the pinpoint system on the YF19 and YF21....
dude i loved the catseye mission and also the one where you protect the SDF1 , played both missions with information high song , freaking cool , the game had potential but there were just too many things against the game , i thought the same regarding the sniper rifle, too cheap.
You do know that Robotech chrystal dreams is downloadable (a few of you probably did know), although it does have a few bugs but it is playable with a n64 emulator.
ur fond look back on crystal dreams was enjoyable. I could tell u were as eager for it's release as i. but we all know how that worked out. for my tastes, i f'n hated cell shaded graphics. It was 1 of the bigger let downs for me of the game. The action was there in the game, though clunky, but it was totally devoid of soap opera which is a very big part of Robotech. Being a fan of the show i still give it a whirl once in a while but really it was a bland game when it relased and now it just sux.
In the cats eye mission focus on the fighter pods, they are focusing on the cats eye, the battle pods are just meant to distract you. Because you havnt beaten the game you should know that you can in vs mode use the Female Power Armor, wish they had the destroids as playable Mechs. Besides that it is one of the best Mech games ever.
And the SNIPER mode is usefull to kill Female Zentraedi Armors, any moron like him would had spent 34hs and 30.000 missiles to kill one, when with 2 average sniper shoots you can blow them
well he was talking about how fast it kills bads guys and yes it dos kill them way to fast it dos way to much damage and the cats Eye mission you got to be a buttion pushing freak to be able to do that mission greanted i beat it but that mission is the hardest in the game because of how many they send after you and from all around you and the cats eye but the good side at lest he showed the game cube you the on that plays the game at the right speed on any other system the speed is slowed by 1\4
the damage the enemys do is taken down by half and have troble loading the lvlissions as well yes i truly belive the game cube one is better faster and more real when it comes to the damage of weapons because in the game cube on if you get hit by a PB blast for about 2 sec your going to loss 3\4 of you health and if your got the SAP aromer its going to be at 3\4 aromer on the othere systems youll only loss about 1\4 of your health but loss all most all of it by some one with Gatling lazer lol
I remember Cat's Eye, it took me such a long time to beat it, but I think that only the fighters target the cat's eye and the hovering things with legs don't target it so if you focus only on the fighters, you could beat it. But I loved this game, i wish they would make a remake or a squeal on PS3 or 360. It was so much fun and I hate how no one knows about this game.
ugh, I'm still stuck on cat's eye, but I think this is a fun game, its actually what got me into the series, but I kinda like the fact there's no health, it presents more of a challenge
The cel shading was overdone to death. Also, the "artwork" in the intro looks like a talentless fanboy's renditions. As for the voice acting for Jack Archer, I hated it. By the way, the intro was way too long and boring. I also did play the first few levels on an Xbox at a local video game store, but the game failed to keep my interest. Besides, Robotech is just a knock-off of Macross and the original japanese has much better games and animated productions...

Only some of the art work sucked, besides RoboTech really is the better of the two (RoboTech vs Macross) Macross has weird acting in it and Macross 2 just was stupid.
Yeah I know, Cat's Eye, Trial by Fire(this one really sucks shit), Cat and Mouse, Party Crashers, and Deadly Storm are the worst levels. I could never beat Trial by Fire on my Regular Xbox, instead, on 360, I had to use cheats to unlock all the levels. Also, there is no way to get health, WTF! What kind of game has no health(not including Halo or TimeShift)?
Hehe the catseye mission and protecting the SDF-1 were the most annoying "protect this thing" missions in the whole game. I actually legitimately beat the catseye one, but I don't remember how or what level haha. Still a good game, even today! I agree, the sniper rifle was incredibly cheap =\. Great review! :)

In Order to beat Cat Scan you have to do alot of barrel rolls and stay at a distance from the cats eye, multi target and destroy enemies when it is in the open when it goes near debris stay close
This came before transformers, and this, is NOT a knock off in any way. In fact, aside from the mecha which transform into planes, there are no other similarities.

I really REALLY loved this review. it is great and in-depth and how this game is really rated. I beat the catseye mission. but I'm nto sure what diff. I was playing on. THAT WAS the hardest. I'm glad I'm not the only person to think it was impossible. But yeah, the Voices were great. I finished Macross not too long ago. the newly dubbed one? it is a good show. and people hate robotech but this game is pretty close to macross

lol ya Cat Scan is hard. But if you focus on just the Fighterepods and ignore everything else it's doable. The fighter pods are the only ones which commit to killing the cat's eye. The rest just harass you. Useflares to protect the cat's eye. I did it without the Valkyrie armor, but it would be so much ezer with it.

After the Cat's Eye mission, it gets easier. There are only a couple rough spots after that. And Crystal Dreams would have been amazing, I can't believe something like that could be done on N64. But if you want a good space flight sim look at Orbiter.

I bought this game a LONG time ago for the GameCube but stopped playing it because of the cats eye mission. I am thinking about rebuying it on eBay and trying it again but this time on my 360. Oh, and for those who don't know. All 85 episodes of the TV show are now on Netflix. I have been watching them like crazy. I am suffering from a flashback/nostalgia overdose.

I lol at h gaurdian mode complaint and the cat's eye mission complaint. Gaurdian mode you can be at a hover by pusshing down on the dpad and cats eye you just gotta focus on the fighter pods that come in. However you can spread docy flares around the object you are defending to destroy missiles.

Actually I thoughy it was the other way around.
The only thing Robotech has as SDF1 barrier shield (Version 2... they used it against mother ship)
Gundams have like Kamehameha type blasts (Heero) and plus they had Gundanium armor.
If robotech adopted adamantium then maybe it would be a good raw power fight

@Cablo102 Macross' Pinpoint barrier is strong enough to take Wing Gundam0's TWB rifle shot.and If the TWB is used to many times SDF Macross' pinpoint barrier would explode.I forgot the radius of the explosion but it would be powerful enough to destroy WZ .Gundanium is damaged by high heat.

@Cablo102 I was wrong it can be damaged by beam weaponry.also It is the omnidirectional barrier that W0 would have problems with.that and the Macross' other weapons and of course the main cannon and Valk squad too.Macross has numbers and tech on its side.

@Cablo102 The Valkyries of that era weren't tech superior.However they're hyper manuverable.but VF19 VF21VF25&VF27 can hold their own against Gundams from eras AC,AW,UC,CE,andAD.But because Gundams can take a hit and have good enough mobility some Gundam vs Valkyrie matches will result in a stalemate.Also 1st transfoming MS ZETA was inspired by Macross Valkyries.

Not in the Invid flower since but in the advanced culture sense.Protoculture is the culture that predated man and Zentradi.The tech that both use comes from the Protoculture.however Dimesion eater missiles may be a combo of Zentradi and Human research .But Gundam is still advanced too F91!!!

In Macross the protoculture was a race of people who created teh universe and made teh zendradi to be workers and the humans to be engineers.... the protoculture died out and the two races went to different areas of space and never had contact untill.........

Robotech ruined all that untill 2005 when the original Macross and it's two sequals (macross II and Macross plus) were brought over to America (still haven't gotten Macross 7, Zero, Fronteir, or DYRL.)

You do know that Robotech chrystal dreams is downloadable (a few of you probably did know), although it does have a few bugs but it is playable with a n64 emulator.

ur fond look back on crystal dreams was enjoyable. I could tell u were as eager for it's release as i. but we all know how that worked out. for my tastes, i f'n hated cell shaded graphics. It was 1 of the bigger let downs for me of the game. The action was there in the game, though clunky, but it was totally devoid of soap opera which is a very big part of Robotech. Being a fan of the show i still give it a whirl once in a while but really it was a bland game when it relased and now it just sux.

In the cats eye mission focus on the fighter pods, they are focusing on the cats eye, the battle pods are just meant to distract you. Because you havnt beaten the game you should know that you can in vs mode use the Female Power Armor, wish they had the destroids as playable Mechs. Besides that it is one of the best Mech games ever.

well he was talking about how fast it kills bads guys and yes it dos kill them way to fast it dos way to much damage and the cats Eye mission you got to be a buttion pushing freak to be able to do that mission greanted i beat it but that mission is the hardest in the game because of how many they send after you and from all around you and the cats eye but the good side at lest he showed the game cube you the on that plays the game at the right speed on any other system the speed is slowed by 1\4

the damage the enemys do is taken down by half and have troble loading the lvlissions as well yes i truly belive the game cube one is better faster and more real when it comes to the damage of weapons because in the game cube on if you get hit by a PB blast for about 2 sec your going to loss 3\4 of you health and if your got the SAP aromer its going to be at 3\4 aromer on the othere systems youll only loss about 1\4 of your health but loss all most all of it by some one with Gatling lazer lol

I remember Cat's Eye, it took me such a long time to beat it, but I think that only the fighters target the cat's eye and the hovering things with legs don't target it so if you focus only on the fighters, you could beat it. But I loved this game, i wish they would make a remake or a squeal on PS3 or 360. It was so much fun and I hate how no one knows about this game.

The cel shading was overdone to death. Also, the "artwork" in the intro looks like a talentless fanboy's renditions. As for the voice acting for Jack Archer, I hated it. By the way, the intro was way too long and boring. I also did play the first few levels on an Xbox at a local video game store, but the game failed to keep my interest. Besides, Robotech is just a knock-off of Macross and the original japanese has much better games and animated productions...

Yeah I know, Cat's Eye, Trial by Fire(this one really sucks shit), Cat and Mouse, Party Crashers, and Deadly Storm are the worst levels. I could never beat Trial by Fire on my Regular Xbox, instead, on 360, I had to use cheats to unlock all the levels. Also, there is no way to get health, WTF! What kind of game has no health(not including Halo or TimeShift)?

Hehe the catseye mission and protecting the SDF-1 were the most annoying "protect this thing" missions in the whole game. I actually legitimately beat the catseye one, but I don't remember how or what level haha. Still a good game, even today! I agree, the sniper rifle was incredibly cheap =\. Great review! :)

In Order to beat Cat Scan you have to do alot of barrel rolls and stay at a distance from the cats eye, multi target and destroy enemies when it is in the open when it goes near debris stay close
