Has anyone noticed, that EVERY fuck*n' J-rock song sounds THE SAME? It's nothing personal, I really like J-pop and Japan, and I'm not prejudiced, but come on...
I admit, that this video clip looks awesome, but vocal is so mainstream D: I can't tell if it's that strange singing style (like he is crying, or just having something sharp in his ass) or just unoriginality, but I definitely won't listen to this band.
@Haruka2012 I know what you mean & you're correct alot of them sound the same vocally, but like this band for instance, it has a unique sound which is something that draws me to most music. You can tell a band by the sound, all or most bands have their original sound. I can, 90% of the time, name bands correctly if I know the band. I listen to the sound of the band it-self, not to much the vocals. You need to compare this band to Nightmare & hiedi. You can tell the difference.
@Haruka2012 not really they dont all sound the same for example kaya and versailles sound very different as does luna sea from X. even malice mizer and dir en grey have really unique voices.
I'm an 80's girl, but I'm realy getting into this music...VK. My first band that I heard & enjoyed was hiedi., then I found Nightmare...awesome bands. For as old as I am, I love the sound of most & the style, although it's hard to tell which guys are straight & which aren't lol. Lot's of good looking guys, wishing I was young again lol, good thing I'm young at heart & still love rock & appreaciate (spelling) music.

i wish they would stop over exposing the faces of these j-rockers, it hides skin imperfections but it cheapens the entire thing for me, it's like when they photoshop the ass of super models for magazines...it just corrupts it. perhaps i'm over thinking.
@leif011 The difference is that those models of which you speak market themselves as being real, whereas visual kei artists make no such claim. I feel that the essence of visual kei is rooted in surreality, and in that way I appreciate the over-exposure - along with the flamboyancy of cosmetics and costumes.
anyone who looks at a music videos and feels the need to post a comments about the musicians/actors gender or sexuality can get in a nice line for me and prepare for a broken jaw...OR just shut the f*ck up!!! good deal don't you think?
People actually need to stop confusing artistic with gay. They are not one in the same. Who says a guy has to be gay just because he is creative? Some people are gay and you would never know it. I wish people were not so steryotypical. Some hair dressers for expample get really mad because ppl assume that they are gay just because they do hair and like to be artistic. we need seperation from the two. My husband wheres makeup but he does it because of the creative flair.

@mycharades85 I think guys might say that it's gay, because if they feel some attraction towards another male because of the way he looks, it would either have to mean that he's gay, or they are (in their heads at least) I'm more of the mindset that beauty is a quality that isn't bound by gender or physical attraction. Though i'm male, a man might be pretty- without threatening my masculinity at all.
@mycharades85 i know what u mean. society has gotten warped by modern generic media influences of what is fashionable and appropriate and what isn't.. VK is an entire culture on its own and if you trace back its roots they have been influenced by variety of things, kabuki being one of them in which men wore make up in theatre. also who the hell cares if they are gay? gay or straight, these guys can make great music~and have serious talent.

Also condemning an entire genre on it's visual style when the genre covers a broad spectrum of music is just silly. Every genre has it's general look, and there's lots of amazing visual kei music being made.

They automatically assume that visual kei = gay when it totally isn't. Since when does a genre of music and clothing style automatically determine ones clothing style. @jualkyn If it helps, I'm a heterosexual guy who's into Visual Kei. VK bands tend to look very gay, but anyone who's studied the genre at all knows that it's just for style. Hyde from Laruku looked like a disturbingly hot chick in Dune, but he's got a wife and a kid now. Mainstream music makes me wanna vomit, so I sent my tastes overseas. Among the best choices I've ever made
@sickninjamonkey Most people are so ignorant of music outside of mainstream...most people only listen to things they are used to and whatever is playing in the radio. They would never play much foreign songs on the radio, even though most of the music kicks the living crap out of what is playing on the radio (in my opinion). Some people refuse to look past a persons looks, even if their music can be great.

@jualkyn Their name is Matenrou opera, Helios is the song. To be honest this song doesn't do the singer justice, because his strenght lies in his vocal power, and his voice is pretty subdued in this song. But it's still a matter of taste if you like his voice or not, it's a very unusual voice.
@sickninjamonkey Oh hah I can't read japanese at all but yes I have heard of this band. Thing is, I noticed that his voice did improve in this compared to his older songs like anomie or what not. I have to say though I struggle with this band overall on whether or not I like them because while I LOVED their bg music, his voice was really lacking in most of the other songs. I am still debating if I should dl their old stuff again but this new song is definitely one of my favs
@jualkyn Oh I love Anomie though... XD Well, I can't agree with that Sono's voice is lacking. His voice hasn't been lacking since Gilia, and I rank him the second greatest singer in the visual kei industry, right behind Asagi. It's really just a matter if you like the sound of his voice or not, and you kind of have to get used to it in some cases, but he has an amazing vocal strenght. You should download their stuff, because you just have to get used to his voice then it sounds amazing. :3
@sickninjamonkey It wasn't that I couldn't get used to his voice. Compared to his singing in this and that anomie song its a night and day difference. In the anomie song, he went flat a lot of the times and was kind of yelling during the chorus instead of hitting each note. I am just a very picky vocal listener. I am also one of the only vkei fans it seems who does not like dir en grey at all either. heh to each their own. Deluhi is my absolute fav though. that man can sing.
@jualkyn Well, I'm very picky with my vocalists too. That's why I love Sono too. But to each their own, and I'm glad you like how he sounds now. Have you heard Asagi from D? That man is the greatest singer I have heard in my life.
I'm not into Dir en grey at all either. I haven't listened to them much, but when I heard their songs I just immediately realised I could never get into them. XD
I might give Deluhi a shot, I've heard a lot about them. But they disbanded, didn't they?
@sickninjamonkey Oh yes I have heard D, they have a billion albums/songs I kind of gave up trying to listen to them all. Asagi is definitely an amazing singer, he needs to get more fame and attention for that, in terms of musical style though, D is alright but not one of my favs. As for dir en grey, kyo just creeps me out...I heard that in the shows he did in canada, he ripped open his mouth with a knife and burst his ear drums..

I was only able to find out about them like a year ago not even, and they are definitely the best jrock group I have ever heard in my life. Seriously, I wish I knew japanese so I could send them a letter begging them not to disband... It really is a shame. listen to ivory and irony from them, its my fav.
@jualkyn Oh, they were good... They really were. I just have a hard time getting into bands that are disbanded. They make me sad for some reason, it's weird. Otherwise I think I could get really into this.
But if you're picky about singers you really should try D. Asagi has just the best voice. They're more fantasy-visual kei though, their lyrics being more fairytales and adventures, same with their costumes. Hard to recommend songs since they have amazing variety.
@sickninjamonkey I know what you mean. I think it's only because I was into DELUHI shortly before they disbanded. They are surprisingly not as well known as some of the other bands and they have lost some of their vkei and went more into the new metal ish genre that appeal to north american fans, but I love them for they have not lost their vkei appeal completely during the process.
@sickninjamonkey Also that yami yori kurai etc LOL that song made me lol. He was a good singer in that but he over stretched his voice to the max in that one to the point where it started sounding ridiculous. The first time I heard it I actually started laughing out loud because of how crazy it sounded but that is a good thing, it sounds unique. I also showed it to random ppl who never heard of vkei b4 to some dudes at my school and they were like WTF? haha.
@jualkyn Yeah, well I've had my sexuality questioned several times because of my taste in music, and I remember I was watching a Moi dix mois live in school and a gurl saw Mana and literally screamed out loud: "OMG THAT GUY WEARS A DRESS, HE'S SO FUCKIN GAY!!".
It doesn't really matter that people call me gay though. I don't consider gay an insult, and all of my friends have after first being slightly weirded out by it stopped having a problem with visual kei, and they know I'm straight. XD
@sickninjamonkey that chick was just jealous that she can't ever be as pretty as the guys from visual kei. And most ppl are just plain fken ignorant period. They have no idea anything aside from mainstream music so once they see something like vkei, they automatically assume its gay. All I say now when ppl ask me wth vkei is I just smile and say "They are drag queens that rock my world who are straight as an arrow" (some are gay or bi but thats like with anything)

Whenever people ask me I just tend to be vague and go: "It's like metal with more of a focus on beauty in the songs and also the artists wear like tonsa stage makeup and stuff..."
But there are few people I meet who are more than surprised and mildly weirded out by visual kei, even really mainstream people. :3
@jualkyn Well Yami yori was actually a little bigger a bite than the singer could chew at the time, but you can feel his passion as he pushes his voice in it though. It was an earlier song, and I actually wish they re-recorded it sometime, since I can hear live how he barely has to push his voice anymore.
Speaking of showing VK to people my dad came in when I was listening to D's new single and sat down and watched, and told me it was beautiful. I was happy but it was a little awkward. xD
I guess Yoru no me to Ginyushijin, L'oiseau bleu and Yami yori kurai doukoku no a cappella to bara yori akai jounetsu no aria (Yes that is the whole title) are some of their best, but they have so much variety in their songs it's hard to recommend stuff. ;-;
@jualkyn Oh my goodness, I totally agree with you. I love the lead singer of Deluhi, and I was so sad when they disbanded. I also don't like dir en grey, either. I tried to get into them because every japanese rock fan recommended them, but most of their music never appealed to me, and I couldn't get past the fact that the lead singer would always harm himself during lives. It seriously scarred me when I saw a video of him fish-hooking. But, anyway, I like this song. It's quite pretty.

I just remember hearing about how he burst his ear drums or part of his vocal chords live while screaming for so long...I think that is just retarded. i wish they would stop over exposing the faces of these j-rockers, it hides skin imperfections but it cheapens the entire thing for me, it's like when they photoshop the ass of super models for magazines...it just corrupts it. perhaps i'm over thinking.

@leif011 The difference is that those models of which you speak market themselves as being real, whereas visual kei artists make no such claim. I feel that the essence of visual kei is rooted in surreality, and in that way I appreciate the over-exposure - along with the flamboyancy of cosmetics and costumes.

People actually need to stop confusing artistic with gay. They are not one in the same. Who says a guy has to be gay just because he is creative? Some people are gay and you would never know it. I wish people were not so steryotypical. Some hair dressers for expample get really mad because ppl assume that they are gay just because they do hair and like to be artistic. we need seperation from the two. My husband wheres makeup but he does it because of the creative flair.

@mycharades85 I think guys might say that it's gay, because if they feel some attraction towards another male because of the way he looks, it would either have to mean that he's gay, or they are (in their heads at least) I'm more of the mindset that beauty is a quality that isn't bound by gender or physical attraction. Though i'm male, a man might be pretty- without threatening my masculinity at all.

VK is an entire culture on its own and if you trace back its roots they have been influenced by variety of things, kabuki being one of them in which men wore make up in theatre. also who the hell cares if they are gay? gay or straight, these guys can make great music~and have serious talent.

Also condemning an entire genre on it's visual style when the genre covers a broad spectrum of music is just silly. Every genre has it's general look, and there's lots of amazing visual kei music being made.

They automatically assume that visual kei = gay when it totally isn't. Since when does a genre of music and clothing style automatically determine ones clothing style. @jualkyn If it helps, I'm a heterosexual guy who's into Visual Kei. VK bands tend to look very gay, but anyone who's studied the genre at all knows that it's just for style. Hyde from Laruku looked like a disturbingly hot chick in Dune, but he's got a wife and a kid now. Mainstream music makes me wanna vomit, so I sent my tastes overseas. Among the best choices I've ever made

@sickninjamonkey Most people are so ignorant of music outside of mainstream...most people only listen to things they are used to and whatever is playing in the radio. They would never play much foreign songs on the radio, even though most of the music kicks the living crap out of what is playing on the radio (in my opinion). Some people refuse to look past a persons looks, even if their music can be great.

@jualkyn Their name is Matenrou opera, Helios is the song. To be honest this song doesn't do the singer justice, because his strenght lies in his vocal power, and his voice is pretty subdued in this song. But it's still a matter of taste if you like his voice or not, it's a very unusual voice.

I have to say though I struggle with this band overall on whether or not I like them because while I LOVED their bg music, his voice was really lacking in most of the other songs. I am still debating if I should dl their old stuff again but this new song is definitely one of my favs

@jualkyn Oh I love Anomie though... XD Well, I can't agree with that Sono's voice is lacking. His voice hasn't been lacking since Gilia, and I rank him the second greatest singer in the visual kei industry, right behind Asagi. It's really just a matter if you like the sound of his voice or not, and you kind of have to get used to it in some cases, but he has an amazing vocal strenght. You should download their stuff, because you just have to get used to his voice then it sounds amazing. :3

@sickninjamonkey It wasn't that I couldn't get used to his voice. Compared to his singing in this and that anomie song its a night and day difference. In the anomie song, he went flat a lot of the times and was kind of yelling during the chorus instead of hitting each note. I am just a very picky vocal listener. I am also one of the only vkei fans it seems who does not like dir en grey at all either. heh to each their own. Deluhi is my absolute fav though. that man can sing.

@jualkyn Well, I'm very picky with my vocalists too. That's why I love Sono too. But to each their own, and I'm glad you like how he sounds now. Have you heard Asagi from D? That man is the greatest singer I have heard in my life.
I'm not into Dir en grey at all either. I haven't listened to them much, but when I heard their songs I just immediately realised I could never get into them. XD
I might give Deluhi a shot, I've heard a lot about them. But they disbanded, didn't they?

Asagi is definitely an amazing singer, he needs to get more fame and attention for that, in terms of musical style though, D is alright but not one of my favs. As for dir en grey, kyo just creeps me out...I heard that in the shows he did in canada, he ripped open his mouth with a knife and burst his ear drums..

I was only able to find out about them like a year ago not even, and they are definitely the best jrock group I have ever heard in my life. Seriously, I wish I knew japanese so I could send them a letter begging them not to disband... It really is a shame. listen to ivory and irony from them, its my fav.

But if you're picky about singers you really should try D. Asagi has just the best voice. They're more fantasy-visual kei though, their lyrics being more fairytales and adventures, same with their costumes. Hard to recommend songs since they have amazing variety.

They are surprisingly not as well known as some of the other bands and they have lost some of their vkei and went more into the new metal ish genre that appeal to north american fans, but I love them for they have not lost their vkei appeal completely during the process.

He was a good singer in that but he over stretched his voice to the max in that one to the point where it started sounding ridiculous. The first time I heard it I actually started laughing out loud because of how crazy it sounded but that is a good thing, it sounds unique. I also showed it to random ppl who never heard of vkei b4 to some dudes at my school and they were like WTF? haha.

@jualkyn Yeah, well I've had my sexuality questioned several times because of my taste in music, and I remember I was watching a Moi dix mois live in school and a gurl saw Mana and literally screamed out loud: "OMG THAT GUY WEARS A DRESS, HE'S SO FUCKIN GAY!!".
It doesn't really matter that people call me gay though. I don't consider gay an insult, and all of my friends have after first being slightly weirded out by it stopped having a problem with visual kei, and they know I'm straight. XD

@jualkyn Well I don't really care when people are weirded out by Visual kei, because it is quite the unusual genre really, I just get annoyed when people outright attack it. XD
Whenever people ask me I just tend to be vague and go: "It's like metal with more of a focus on beauty in the songs and also the artists wear like tonsa stage makeup and stuff..."
But there are few people I meet who are more than surprised and mildly weirded out by visual kei, even really mainstream people. :3

@jualkyn Well Yami yori was actually a little bigger a bite than the singer could chew at the time, but you can feel his passion as he pushes his voice in it though. It was an earlier song, and I actually wish they re-recorded it sometime, since I can hear live how he barely has to push his voice anymore.
Speaking of showing VK to people my dad came in when I was listening to D's new single and sat down and watched, and told me it was beautiful. I was happy but it was a little awkward. xD

I guess Yoru no me to Ginyushijin, L'oiseau bleu and Yami yori kurai doukoku no a cappella to bara yori akai jounetsu no aria (Yes that is the whole title) are some of their best, but they have so much variety in their songs it's hard to recommend stuff. ;-;

@jualkyn Oh my goodness, I totally agree with you. I love the lead singer of Deluhi, and I was so sad when they disbanded. I also don't like dir en grey, either. I tried to get into them because every japanese rock fan recommended them, but most of their music never appealed to me, and I couldn't get past the fact that the lead singer would always harm himself during lives. It seriously scarred me when I saw a video of him fish-hooking. But, anyway, I like this song. It's quite pretty.
