  • Big AFA football fan here. Since BYU's having difficulty moving the ball these days, it'd great to see them convert to the Triple Option. The old Houston Veer utilized two RBs, as opposed to three. During the Edwards era, BYU had split backs, just like Bill Yeoman employed at Houston back in the 70s. Just a thought..

  • as an air force academy cadet... thank you very much

its a shame we wont be playing you anymore

  • i think this is very honorable and classy. wonderful way to honor the people who serve our country and help maintain our freedom. im proud to be a cougar but even more proud to be an american.

  • My two absolute favorite teams! God Bless the US Air Force, as well as other branches of the Military! :) Go Falcons!!! Go Cougars!!!

  • This is about the classiest thing I have EVER seen. Thank you BYU fans for supporting our cadets.

  • This still makes me cry. I'm so proud of our military, and of the people that showed such great respect for them in this way.

  • While it may have happened in 07, this video was indeed played last year when USAFA went to BYU in November (I was watching it on MWC's channel "The Mountain"). The Superintendant was so thrilled by the tribute, and the fans cheering response, that the following week he played it for the whole cadet wing (at Monday's noon meal if memory serves). My info is that Ohio state did this first when they played navy that year, and invited the other teams they to borrow the idea, but so far only BYU has.

  • very classy, go Falcons!

  • Bronco Mendenhall commented that his favorite school to play is Air Force because their team, like BYUs, has an honor code and put other things before football.

  • THIS COMMENT IS TAKEN OFF A USAFA Parents website, the post was dated 12-24-2009, so the game had recently taken place: Probably 11/21/2009.

The video attached on this post was shown on the Jumbo-Tron at the BYU field as a surprise to all. It was produced by BYU students. The SUPE ((meaning Superintendent of Cadets)) was there for the game and was so touched he brought a copy back to USAFA and had all staff watch it. And yes they all stood up and cheered the Cadets.

  • Beautifully done!

Three of my cousins play for BYU...

But my grandfather was a Colonel in the Air Force...

Thus, the only time that I pull against the USAFA is when they play the "Y"...

    Go Cougars! And,,,

God Bless The United States Air Force Academy!!!

  • Excellent... class act.

  • I just wish people understood the difference between national defense and police the world....

  • Enjoy a tribute to those who have taken a pledge to defend everything our country stands for.

  • As a Wyoming fan, I don't always appreciate BYU. The Cougars (and the Falcons, for that matter) have been pretty hard on my team in recent years. But this tribute is well-done and well-deserved. It puts it all in a much more important perspective. Nice job, BYU. Very classy indeed.

  • Navy family here but wanted to salute BYU and AF - great video - thanks for sharing!

    Keep up the excellence!

    ~Bazza

  • All I can say is AMEN and AMEN.

  • I think it was very honorable of BYU to show this video. Our people in uniform don't do enough to give us our freedoms. I loved this video. I watched this right after watching the "We The People" video and it brought a tear to my eye.

*son of retired USAF Master Sergeant*

  • Total class----expected nothing less from BYU!!!

    Thanks!

    USAFA 1975 grad

  • Ohio State did something similar before the Navy Game - and the entire stadium stood and cheered when the NAVY team took the field

    watch?v=n3Z52GKONPc

    watch?v=wC813WE_jE8

  • WOW! Excellent! I actually got chills watching it - thanks for sharing!

  • Nicely done BYU!

    Thanks, USAFA '91

  • BYU is showing class. Plain and simple, class. In these days of being scared of PC they showed class. Wouldn't it be great if other entities ignored PC and showed class??? Be proud of yourselves BYU, I am!!!

    SMSGT USAF, Ret

  • I think it great that BYU honors those opponents who are serving our country. Every serviceman or woman is fantastic. Keep up the good work and BYU thank you.

  • Katmam78130 fuck you. Go to hell if you don't appreciate this country. You are a goddamn motherfuck and I hope you die a long suffering death and burn your little raping ass in hell forever

  • Very classy. Maybe they got the idea from Ohio State. OSU played Navy the first game of the year in 09 and asked that the midshipmen run out of the tunnel alongside the buckeyes before the goame to the roar of 105,000.

  • This game was actually played in 2007, so I'm not sure who started the tradition.

  • Stay Classy, BYU!

  • Very classy, BYU!

  • I was at the BYU AFA basketball game last night, and they played a video similar to this one. They asked everyone to cheer the Air Force players when they came on the floor, and everyone did. It was pretty awesome. Some Air Force cadets (not sure if that's the right term) also sang the national anthem. Although that was probably the only highlight of the night for the Air Force players.

  • It's because of our military that people like Katman78130 can sign onto the internet and spout their ignorant mouths off. I will pray for you and anyone who may be stuck listening to one of yur sad, angry little rants.

  • I love that Air Force motto they showed "Integrity First, Service Before Self, Excellence in all We Do"

Good job BYU and Air Force!!

  • Katman78130, as an active duty Air Force Officer's & alumni of the AFA spouse, I would be glad to remind you that you are welcome to go LIVE in any other country you would like...let all us patriots show you the first flight out to Iran. You have no idea what your speaking of if you can take honorable & respectful sportsmanship & say the things like you did above. You should thank the military everyday of your life for keeping you safe & giving their lives for even people like you. Way to go BYU!

  • Thank you letursouldance4ever...very well said!!

God Bless America and our military.

  • leave

  • @katman78130 - if your ignorant ass doesn't like it here, Delta's ready when you are. Get the f*** out, and stay the f*** out.

  • @katman78130 There is nothing wrong with being patriotic and supporting your country.

  • Kudos to BYU!

  • very classy move on the part of BYU.

  • I find it fascinating that so many older people bash the youth of our nation about so many things they themselves created. The you the of today will have to fix not just the problems they create, due mostly to inexperience and bad ideas (thats why they call it youth), but all the things in our country that they will inherit. You young guys (and girls), I believe more and more that the older generation could learn something from so many of you.

  • Great sportsmanship and patriotism, great message, classy, classy act. BYU and the Air Force (because I served) are now my favorite western universities, and not because of their athletic teams. These 2 institutions produce fine, upstanding citizens, and this message proves that.

  • Outstanding sportsmanship by BYU. This AF vet thanks the University, it's staff, and those students who participates that day...

  • I just became a BYU fan, Class act!

  • Very Classy indeed.

  • Just received the Air Force Association (AFA) newsletter where the President of AFA confirmed from General Gould that this is indeed real and that it was shown to the crowd. I would still assume the date is wrong and that the general did not account for that.

  • THANK YOU BYU!!

    Real class transcends competition!

  • Awesome and true!

  • Thank you to BYU for showing what true sportsmanship is...and from someone who proudly served 10 years in the Air Force- this is REALLY COOL! THANK YOU !!!!!

  • Rock on!

  • Extremely moving, and powerful. I wish there was a video follow-up, showing the response of the BYU fans when the Air Force entered the field. Leave it to the BYU students to show such a high stand of class and respect.

  • I attended the game in November 2009 (I believe the 21st) and this video was played. There was also a fly over that always brings tears to my eyes. We love and respect all the armed forces. I am not sure why someone would say this did not happen because there are over 60,000 people that saw it include cadets from the Air Force.

  • Comment removed

  • Love this! True SPORTSMANSHIP!

  • Awesome Vid BYU! Hooahh!

  • Very nice....

  • It was an announced tribute and it is on the BYU website.

  • Hey "cntbrodie",

Are you REALLY so stupid as to say that this flat out did NOT happen? That 60,000+ people at the game are part of a huge conspiracy to all agree to say that it happened when in fact it did not?

Are you REALLY that retarded or did your fingers just fly over your computer keyboard with your brain knowing what they were typing?

If it's the former, pipe down.

If it's the latter, mind your fingers better next time.

  • Twister051 It didn't happen on 9-22-09 on a tuesday. It might have happened another day. If you were there and can give the correct date. Give it ! Other wise this one is a fake. Maybe you should check your information before you start any name calling.

  • The game was in November and it did happen. We did the fly-by. Go Cougars and USAFA!

  • As a retired USAF MSgt - Thanks !

    -- cheers

  • I'm with newmandoesit on this one, that is, a bit cynical. The date, 9-22-09 is on a Tuesday and neither team played that day, let alone each other. They did play in Provo on 11-21-09 and on 9-22-07. I can find no other references about this event on the internet other than here on YouTube. I really wonder if it actually happened, or if someone has an overactive imagination (a liar).

  • Good question. I will look into this. 9-22-07 is the logical choice, even though I was just sent this and told is was circulating at the Air Force Academy. But we need to verify, I agree.

  • I, too, received the video link in an email recently. If it was actually shown at the stadium in '07, it is strange that it took so long to finally make its "public" debut. The video itself is a terrific idea.

  • This is in the byu video archives-it was played on saturday Nov. 21-2009

  • sorry the date was Nov23 in Provo

  • @bchapmanbyu This video was shown at the 2009 football game late in the year between AF and BYU at BYU. The cadets were watching the game live in the fieldhouse and shown the video.

  • @dough537 I was there. It really happened. I always stand for the Air Force song at the end of the game, too.

  • @dough537

    It happened...I was there.

  • Great Video!

  • I'm not trying to be cynical here but are you sure this was played in their stadium? It seems a little under produced for something that would typically be shown at a D-1 college stadium.

  • That was awesome it is true

  • Excellent!

  • Excellent video! It's awesome to see such humble recognition in football - and it's a rarity indeed.

  • Great video. It's a shame it's actually needed. @ sanluisskywatch: I hope your little conspiracy theories keep you up at night and you live in a perpetual state of paranoid unrest. You deserve it.

  • sanluisskywatch, you sir, are what we would call a clinical nutcase.

  • Agree with you on your comment, Sir. This Coast Guard Military Mom would like to advise all you lib kids out there that those jet streams are keeping your asses free and safe. Too much tree hugging pipe sucking and not near enough respect - wake up, you ungrateful thankless ball-less cowards. Regardless if this recognition happened on the day it did or did not occur between said entities, the sentiment was much appreciated, and I'm forwarding on to my Vietnam Air Force Veteran friends. Thanks.

  • @jetstreamguy If we ignore him, will he go away??? Just curious.

  • 336:

Unfortunately, those folks are like bad smells coming from under a manhole cover. When the wind blows, the stink seems to be gone, only to reappear when things calm down for a moment!

    Thanks for the note.

  • jetstreamguy:

It is the very least that I can do for never having officially served. I flunked out of Lackland back in '88, when I was much younger and had a horrible attitude about everything in general. You are very welcome. I know what I do isn't much, but I try my damn best to let the people in uniform know that I do care. I grew up an AF brat. I have a slight knowledge of what it is like.

  • @sanluisskywatch Shut up, stupid.

  • USAF....Above All.

    75-88

  • @DGhostBear just like my dad 64-84. Amen to this video.

  • Very classy

  • Too bad Jorgensen and Mendenhall didn't pay more attention to this.

  • This is awesome! Good job BYU for recognizing whats important!
