I just downloaded the song from itunes - the second part is even more beautiful than this clip, as the boys' vices really get going. I recommend you listen to the whole thing!
I'll second hk770. Who was Alan Ball? Please understand I'm just a grit from Virginia. While you guy probably get inundated with news about American celebrities we only hear about your major ones: the Royals, the big rock stars, your PM, and that's about it.
Alan Ball was a feisty member of the English soccer team when England last won the World Cup back in 1966. He was also a nice guy, so, when he passed away recently, he really did deserve the privilege of having the Winchester Choir to sing him on his way: a worthy tribute, and now a nice little souvenir for all of us. The full version of the song, on iTunes, is well worth its £0.79 in a good cause.
Well done, Winchester! Nice singing, of course, but even greater enterprise. I'll support that. But don't stop now. There must be fav songs for Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, and the rest. Get to work! Or are you open to requests? Pretty please?!! Well, many thanks for this lovely starter anyway.
Absolutely Great! Thank you so much for sharing. I am in Tucson Arizona USA and not likely to ever have the opportunity to see or hear them in person. Great voices. Once a treble always a fan.
I can vouch for Ali Dugdale's comment. The full song is much better quality than the 'you tube' clip. So dig deep into your pockets for a good cause.

This was the piece sung for Alan Ball's funeral three weeks ago. Thanks for posting this.
