The point of championship duck calling is to show how much control a contestant has over a call. "Stage Calling" as this is refered to will scare every duck in your state plum out of it, if you tried this in the field. "Meat Calling" is trying to mimic the sounds of ducks in the field. This is stage calling. And if u try this in the field you will not have a duck come within 500 yards of you all day in the blind.
I am an avid duck hunter, but I havent really followed any duck calling competition or dont know much about it. Is the highball the very first call they do (sounds like an overkill of a hail call)?
its not called a 90 note highball. most highballs max out at like 20-30 note but theres no doubt people do more than 30 but if you could do 90 i would be EXTREMELY impressed

rickjames is correct, although the high ball he was doing may sound somewhat excessive for the field, and it is, the contest just shows the control these guys have over their calls which, is very impressive. A lot of work goes into that, a lot of work.
There is a world of diffrence between calling on the stage and calling in the feilds and in the timber these guys that talk down dont even know what kinda of work that these guys put into these contests.

Two completly different type of calling between contest and actual hunting. Anybody with a half of a brain knows that. Common sense says you couldn't call in ducks with that style of calling, but the only thing he has to fool is the judges.

first year goose and duck hunter here hunted many other things but just getting into it anyone have any INSTRUCTIONAL duck and goose callings. A how to and any information on choosing several different calls you prefer thanks

you can say what you want about these guys, but everyone knows that real duck calling and competition calling are completely different. I can call real ducks all day long but i would never make it in a competition like that.

i love to duck hunt and consider myself a very good duck and goose caller and i would never shame myself by entering these competitions. listen to these men and listen to a duck. does not sound remotely the same and if you tried to call a flock of ducks by calling like these guys, you would never come close to bringing them down
