  • 4th, neh!, PATHFINDER!, 3.5 rulez! !!

  • 4e is a decent game, but its just not DnD any more.

  • @thespacebat Disagree,Agree

  • GURPS forever. Hell even Swordbearer is better than D&D.

  • @Dragdamar HELL YEE

  • Ok, I just want to say to the people who are complaining so much about 4th edition: 1) if you don't like it, don't play it. 2) Yes, a lot changed. If a lot didn't change, they wouldn't have made a NEW EDITION. 3.5 still exists, so do all the ones before it. The fact is, 4.0 is MUCH easier to get into than 3.5 was and is. 4.0 is going to get a lot of people into D&D that didn't before due to the complexities of it.

  • @AbyssalRook yeah, and that's why sales are down, and they are going to redo it.

Check out the article on the ny times about it. they want player's input to update it.

frankly 4e was a joke to gamers.

and sucked majorly. totally destroyed the game(hence why a lot of people went to pathfinder).

  • @refsocrd1

People left D&D because of an optional update...Brilliance incarnate.

  • 4th edition sucks beholder balls. 2,75 edition forever!

  • Pathfinder for the win. We don't even need beholders to be cool... we keep telling ourselves :)

  • 3.5 had something iconic... lol

  • Those animations are the only good thing about 4e.

  • Looks like Chuliad

  • I'm only doing one take...

  • 4th edition is the best edition yet. I've been playing since first. 4th is definitely the most fun.

  • @Draeka must have some suck ass dms and players. been playing 2e for a couple decades now. 3e and up cut way to much out, and made it almost unplayable. then ten thousand rules mods, and 4e with 3phb, 3dmg and 3mm, good lord. are we playing d&d or dragon poker( look it up).

  • @zaczes999 Not better. Different stuff for different tastes.

  • @zaczes999 warhammer sucks ass(unless you are talking the miniatures game, then you are in the wrong comment area).

    and battletech kicks warhammer's ass.

  • i like beholders if they are on my team.

  • 4th is cool. 3.5 is cool. Period.

  • @ThePocket5 you forgot an "er" after "3.5 is cool"

  • Yeah, pathfinder's great... if you want to play as a human, a shorty race, a half human race, or an elf.... blech.

  • Go Old School or Go Home!!!!! 1st Edition!!!!!

  • rolls 11

    rolls 9

    rolls 3

oops look 4Ed is a fail it didnt pass its skill quest... good thing we got Pathfinder.

  • I only play Iron Kingdoms, a 3.5 supplement, so edition 4 is useless to me. For medieval settings i wil always prefer Runequest and DSA ;)

  • @WeilheimCvlt I never heard of the Iron Kingdoms what is that like?

  • @kirax10a kick magic out of d&d and just go all out with fighters and stuff.

The other option is a magic heavy campaign with arcana unleashed.

Both, are monte cook and pretty good alternate rules(use 3.x for the base).

  • magicka ?

  • Hmm Christopher Perkins as the Owl Bear Wrangler...must pay well.

  • EXCELLENT!!

  • Why does the beholder have that accent?

  • DND WAS MURDERD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • >implying beholders couldn't take on entire parties in 3.x

  • @NecroEX083 Yeah seriously, they were death incarnate as it is

  • @LeftoverJedi They've always pretty much been the iconic 'boss monster' for mid level parties.

  • did the bitey castle/ brakenwood guy do this? I think his name is adam philips?

  • @leaha401 Yep. He did.

  • I look at the user groups for the local area and nobody plays 4th edition. For every group saying they are starting a 4th ed campaign, there are 20 starting a 3.5. Sure it sold, I bought the books when it came out, then I read the rules and regretted it. Trying to make table top like wow is a bad move.

  • Personally, I played 4E for about 2 months. It wasn't for me. I prefer the customisation allowed in 3.5.

No 'rogues have to act as fast dps/daggers' etc etc. I've played everything from rogue bluff and forgery monkeys, to Wizard Transmuters.

This is what I feel is missing from 4E. It's an ok system, I just don't 'feel' it is the same as D&D. It's ok by any other name, but I just cant see it replacing 3.5. That said, in the age of MMO's, I can see why they made the changes. New audience, more £

  • beholder is in magicka too haha

  • Mr. Interviewer (I believe his name is Mike) is very dedicated to his job.

  • PATHFINDER 3.75 FTW!!!

  • You wanna know what sucks about $th edition, you can't power up any nonplayer race, they're all concrete, that just takes away too much fun.

  • I don't get it... beholders have always been solo monsters. On previous editions, a single beholder was something to fear, and it didn't need minions.

  • @Grandstra tell that to my dm. that fucker threw about 7even of theese bastards and a few mind flayers at me and my party. only me and 1 other person survived epic loot though

  • If I had a copper peice for every paladin I turned into a bird feeder.

  • im ONLY doing one take!!!

  • As soon as they declared there'd be no translation of Ravensloft, I knew D&D had well and truly died. 3.5 is okay to play, but it'll never match D&D 1st Ed.

  • @dorain1 Ravenloft is the campaign setting for 2011. It was announced at Gencon.

  • @dorain1 if you know how to translate it yourself, it's not that hard. I have the first edition ravenloft book of Lords myself. and i actually plan on using it in my 3.5 ed. campaign. It doesn't take very much to translate it yourself.

  • @subzero21601 Alas, due to a parent-related "mishap", all of my 1st Edition books and material ended up as ash.

  • never have interviews with powerful bosses

  • 3.x didn't need any gimmicky crap like this.

    Nor did 2e, AD&D, etc.

  • Paladin: CRAP! A BEHOLDER!!! *stoned*

  • I'm only doing one take..

  • damn just doge the shock if u can!

  • Where can I buy D&D miniatures in Sydney?

  • PATHFINDER

  • make a vidio about bahamut, tiamat or silvara

  • fought a beholder used friend as statue shield entire time

  • I am old school 1st and 2nd edition has D&D changed that much really?

  • @DahaktheDragon dude 4th WAY TO EASY i like 3rd though

  • @NewbiusMaximus 3.5 ftw

  • @NewbiusMaximus

Then make it harder for yourself and your group. I don't see what's so difficult about this. D&D has always been a game about house rules, so I don't see why 4e is any different. When I start my 4e group, I'm reducing all non-magical healing effects to 1/4-1/2 effect.

  • in the online dnd theres a beholder thats #1 hardest non-raid boss beat a couple raid bosses also

  • Bring Back SoD!

  • who makes these videos originally?

  • OMG!! So funny! Me and my D&D party just got finished beating the beholder

  • personally, i thought 3.5 was the best. And you CANNOT sway my opinion :D

  • @1finalfantasyplayer You should look into Pathfinder. All the guys that got their walking papers from Wizards when they started building 4E went to Paizo Games and kept 3.5 alive. They fixed a ton of things, gave the game a new universe, and changed the way that certain classes manifest their abilities.

  • @1finalfantasyplayer Yeah I've played them all and while I still play 3.5, I think pathfinder may be the best. But it's pretty much the same as 3.5.

  • oh my god.. who make these awesome videos??

  • everyone has their edition preferences. I happen to prefer 2nd edition myself. third was what I played first though.

  • This reminds me of baldurs Gate:Dark Alliance

  • I think that beholder is an afroamerican beholder.

  • ~-..:::3.5 For Life:::..-~

    Funny videos still

  • Beholders are cool

  • That would explain why there's a feat called "Coke is friggin' delicious and you should buy some." I thought that was suspicious.

  • why, 3.5e seems pretty nice :)

  • If you liked 3.5, then you should try Pathfinder, it's even more cool.

  • I love these movies!!!!!!

D&D inspired us to make movies in the fantasy world and rules and characters.

Monsters and various races are used.

Our movies are all put on You Tube

    Movies by: Shadowyn Films

    movies like: Soul Searching

If you like D&D you may like these movies a well.

    Ideas are welcome!

  • WHAT DID HE DO TO THE PALADINS?!? >:(

  • 4th edition is the retarded little sister of 3.5. But I guess WotC thought they needed more sissy ten year olds playing the game and spending all their allowance on minis.

  • I love how the beholder sounds like Issac Hayes.

4e is the best edition ever, btw, to all you playa haters out there.

  • lol, thats awesome how DnD monsters are in Neverwinter Nights (i know its made by DnD, etc.)

  • Neverwinter nights is a Forgotten Realms game. Forgotten realms is a campaign setting that has had other games in it such as baulder's gate, icewind dale, etc. It is also the setting that has Drizzt Do'urden the dark elf that is born good aligned for some reason, and has had books for playing in the setting since 2nd edition. I personally dislike what 4th edition did to the forgotten realms setting and simply play 3.5 and have it take place after the silence of Lolth.

    To each their own though.

  • yeah, my group just fought our first beholder, and holy shit it was a looong battle, of course we were fighting about 13 other monsters on top of the beholder! Ugh that was a bitch, but so satisfying in the end hahaha...shitty treasure tho >_>

  • But ... but ... The interview was within the beholder's AMF ...

    Gawd. I hate 4e.

  • My group holds fast to 3.5. I think it's balanced enough with still room for Role Play. I know a guy who still prefers 2cond.

  • One beam away from perfect vision... Rather One beam away from Disintigration!!! LOL

  • a beholder was always a solo monster from 1rst edition on..anyone who didn't run them as such was either a player killer or a shitty DM

  • I was kinda glad when they decided to simplify 3rd edition rules. I thought it was over complicated and not user friendly. Even though they might have gone bit overboard with the whole 'balance' issues, it's user and DM friendly. Which is more than I can say about the 3rd ed.

  • haha! that was funny

  • lol, awesome... beholders rule

  • You have no proof of their sales figures. I, however, can tell you that the phb2 made the NY Times bestseller list, a first for a D&D rulebook. Also, consesus of whom? A few disgruntled people on YouTube? It depends on which board you go to. If you go to a red sox website, you'll see a lot of smack talking about the Yankees. What you see on a few sites means nothing. Bottom line, play what you want. I enjoy 4e, and I've played every edition. Each has it's perks, I just happen to prefer 4th.

  • Now, if you want to enter an actual adult conversation on the subject, I'd be happy to. Just don't express your dislike of a system as gospel. I was hesitant when it came out as well, then I got dragged into a 4e game and fell in love.

  • Agreed

  • @Droogie128 i Agree. ive been playing DnD since 2nd, (im only 18). Ive had fun with them all but 4th has got to be hands down my favorite. Im also primary DM, and i have to say that it is the best edition to make stories, you dont have to worry about all the syntax. I have to say my least favorite was 3.5, turns were just too long and unsatisfying.

  • @Slyboogy07 good to see other DMs that like. Pay attention to the game.

  • @Slyboogy07 The reason 3.5 is so popular it fixes all the issues in 3.0 with combat but also has so much customization. But my issues with 4.0 is that it is too easy, i played some preset adventures with a rep from wizards of a the coast with their standard mundane chars, and i destroyed everything way to easily, at level 1 i don't feel like an adventurer should be able to blow up the world, thats saved for later levels.

But to address turns, it doesn't take long if you know the rules well.

  • @bobsyouruncle666 Idk what you mean about blow up the worls, cause the quests tht are presets that ive played are : killing goblins, a random wizard, a bar fight, helping to seige a castle back from some bandits(lvl 4). thats not very epic? Epic is an army of orcs, Frenzied Beholders, Mature dragons. theres different levels. the problems that i see with 4th (and it isnt wizards fault) is that new players are coming in like mad and they get into the game and want to make the stories epic.

  • @bobsyouruncle666 they wanna be fortold in prophesies, stop evil from rising and send hell back to its wastes, the forst mission in the red box: retrieve a box back that was stolen from a merchant, the one i followed up with, a knights hall was robbed and they had to get the sword and shield back. Its the DM that makes stories to easy or hard. if you wanna make it hard, season in traps, make a path that leads to a monster spawning big creature, like a spider whos 4 levels above the party

  • @bobsyouruncle666 spawning minions each round. If a DM wants to make it hard they can, but you have to ask yourself, is hard always fun? i almost for surely almost nearly kill someone, and no healing surges usually remain. i make it kinda hard but do able. if you see it as easy, then you should make it harder. Its DnD man, we make the game.

  • @Droogie128 id high five but i have tenticals;)

  • @Droogie128 It seems like all they did was re-organize it so you have to pay them more... I'm kinda used to 3.5e...

  • @ShockWaveClone88 It's a complete overhaul. One for the better, imo. It's the only D&D I'll play anymore, though I prefer other systems over any edition of D&D.

  • @Droogie128 My group just uses a mod system of DnD 3.5... we also play Rifts and other systems but basically you use any books we have an mesh it into what we wanna do... for example... a blunderbuss based off of the Rifts shotgun, incorporated into the DnD system

  • heh they bring him to DDO unlimited... he's weak compared to 4th edition!

  • Awesome voice for the Beholder :)

  • Yeah, they totally forgot about shalow D&D players XDDDD... D&D has always been a game of leveling up, treasure and other video game like stuff... they're just being more honest now.

  • Uh... where do you think the video games got it in the first place?

  • Video games evolved from the old 2d games that started to develope in the 80's. The concepts were later expanded upon. The problem with video games is that they are shallow and limited. It isn't right to make the game less detailed for those who already play d&d. It just makes it easier for video gamers.

  • Its obvious you've never played 3.0 and 3.5 because they are a lot more indepth. They've had to cut out all the stuff that makes the game unpredictable like real life just to lure in video gamers with 4.0.

  • Exactly. I mean then they are like, well it's up to you to role play. But the main problem is, they fucked up the abilities. Lots of them blow and don't work anywhere near as balanced as before.

  • 4th edition sucks, and all dnd players know it. 4th was created to draw in shallow video gamers.

  • Thank you!!! Finally someone else who thinks the same thing.

  • Agreed, I had high hopes for 4e; I mean new classes, reworked feats and spells while intending to keep the natural look and feel for a new generation of gamers... I had really high hopes, but then when I saw the first bootleg pdfs on the books... I had basically lost it. 4e looked like they took WOW RP and had a field-day rewriting everything to accommodate a carbon copy while slapping Dungeons and Dragons on it and hoping the oldschool don't notice... made me sick.

  • Hehe You know I said similar things about third edition when it came out. Being and old schooler. I miss Thaco.. there I said it. I find it hilarious that people consider third old school now.

I'll reserve judgement till I actually play 4th. But I figure they had to do something to be compatable with the short attention spans of the kids today. hehe I guess even 3rd was too complicated?

  • I don't know much of anything D&D related, so I'm probably about to ask a baby-level easy question, but...

What's the difference between 2nd addition, 3rd addition, 4th, 5th, etcetera, and why does it upset some players when a new addition is released?

  • Well I can only answer for myself. I was grumpy about thrd edition coming out simply for the reason of I had to buy more books. I like the D20 system, it's not perfect but it's something you can pick up and feel comfy with in a single evening. So it does it's job. But to call it D&D to me is like comparing Battletech to Mechwarrior Dark Age. hehe As far as the differences go.. wow. I don't think I could even come close in the 67 characters I have left. I'll continue

  • I should probably start with the similarities first. You roll dice for your stats and hit points. You have to do a fair amount of reading. That's about it. Between 2nd and 3rd it's honestly a totally different game. Right down to how you do initiative to figuring armor class. Lower is better and you can even have negative armor classes. 2nd also HATED trees.. So many books. So many printings.. I figure 2nd edition has a larger carbon footprint than brazil. As far as the other editions (Cont)

  • Lie 30 and 3.5 I would say it's small differences as far as mechanics goes. More tweaks and balances, where as 4th seems to again be a whole new game. Taking a step backward to 2nd in some ways. the details you can add to characters and miniature combat to name a couple things. Again that's my personal observations. While I've only skimmed the 4th rules I can't comment with any real authority on the subject.

Now d20 modern. I dig that lots.

  • Hope all that helps and please pardon my typos, it's kinda late :)

  • You are so right about that. After playing 4th for a year and a half i feel....icky!

  • Really? How so? What are your impressions of the system?

  • 4.0 is the ultimate in min-maxing. Action points pretty much gets anyone out of hot water and the only damage you take is hit points. No more level loss or stat loss makes it weak and simplified. The characters are pretty much one and the same due to all of the so-called balance. My rogue did equal damage to the barbarian in the group even when he did not have combat advantage. To make a long story short they did make it simple...I feel like it should be called Dungeons and Sesame street.

  • Kinda what I thought as far as the balancing. And yeah action points do much the same thing in D20 Modern ( If youve ever looked at it) Though why your DM would give up stat loss and level drains baffles me. There has to be some "risk" or element of "danger" to the characters. Heck stat loss and level drains are sometimes the only way to keep fighters from disarming every trap with hitpoints. lol Thanks for the feedback :)

  • man so many great times playing the old 1st and 2nd edition modules,my characters are currently in the middle of G3,a D&D classic..I'd much rather have a handful of dice,a few sheets of graph paper and a pencil..then stare at my monitor playing some mmorpg, actual human interaction..wow..we've almost regressed in our past times lol

  • the video was funny, but fourth edition is total crap. they just dumbed down the rules so more people can play so wizards of the coast can make more money. plus, they have d&D so you can play with friends online and setup campaighns. this is stupid to, because D&D is about using your imagination not a freekin computer screen.

  • Plus they totally stole my design for making 'boss encounters' and multiple attacks / or as I called them in my design 'Boss Action Points'. Every boss has a certain number of 'points' per round, and a list of abilities that use from that point pool. Obvously, WOTC didn't accept me as a writer, but they sure do like to steal people's material. The level 20-30 being normal content is something I've developed and used for YEARS. WOTC is a shady bunch of capatilistic nerds who killed D&D.

  • I wouldn't even call WotC nerds dude. They have no ideas. They invest and poof, money. That's what happens in that sort of bizz.

Obviously something new needs to get in the market.

  • Also: Gas spore season. Now THERE is an in-joke, hahah.

  • I was raised on 2nd Ed, and 2nd Ed is where I stay. I immediately rebelled when I found how 3rd Ed made everything so generic, e.g. the katana. In 2nd, the book went into detail about the difficult manufacturing process and cultural importance. In 3rd, it's summed up as "just a masterwork bastard sword".

In short, I stopped caring about what WotC has done to the franchise long ago. Still a hilarious video, though.

  • I think your complaints are ill-placed. There is nothing about 3e that is so wrong you can not change it. I mean, you are essentially complaining a bout the "fluff" of it. Christ, I don't even have katanas (because knights dont USE them!). I think you have much more to be concerned about with the dire flail -.- which on could just remove. I suppose what I am trying to say that your nitpicking is going WAY to far for a game that essentially IS a generalization of fantasy.

  • Oh, entirely fair statement, I am being a picky bastard about it. As for things like the dire flail (and its even more ludicrous cousin, the gyrspike), to me they're saying that WotC isn't trying especially hard in being creative and figures the fanbase is willing to swallow anything they feed it.

But you make a good point, and I'm now starting to wonder what 3rd Ed rules with 2nd Ed fluff would be like... definite possibilities...

  • Omg, dude, trust me my game is 2nd ed fluff ALL THE WAY. In the beginning of the campaign, I pulled out the 2ed book and the 3ed book and said "I am using these rules, and thats all. The aesthetic is THIS right here (2nd ed) all the way." No stupid looking halflings, they look like little people : )

  • Actually, with Exotic Weapon proficiency they can ;) That's why 3.0/3.5 Rocked so hardcore. Customization is what people WANT. People want to make their own unique character.. my system being released later this year *(yes, it's 3.0/3.5 based and BRAND NEW) has been beta tested and rewritten but will be published later this year.

  • GREAT! Thank you much for this add's and greets from a german female gamer, born 1961.

( I drive a Neverwinter server now since 5 years called CHATEAU ROISSY, kategory: social, world for adult fantasy rolegame and adventures)

  • I'm old and stuck in my ways..d&d 2nd edition was the best imo..tried playing 3rd once but rolling a minotaur rogue or whatever it was killed the whole idea of where the game was going for me..maybe I had a shitty dm..anyhoo..just my 2 cents and no doubt I'll be flayed for it..but I have an 18 agility and bracers of defense ac3,+5 cloak,+5 leather, and boots of striding and springing..so I'm ok

  • That's because you're thinking of a rogue as just a hide + sneak attack kind of a character. Sneak attack is specifically about hitting VITAL spots and quickness. Secondly, rogues have ALL manner of jobs and specialties.. in fact, only stereotypical rogues hide and backstab.. which I agree is fun, but does not a rogue make.

  • ok for all the haters: 4th edition is so the campaigns can be foused on story and player interaction rather than crunching numbers. I admit that it should be called somthing other than 4th edition (go back to the old days of having D&D ((4th ed)) and advanced D&D ((3.5))

  • Sorry no. 4th edition makes the game the opposite. It's ALL action and very little story. Secondly, it allows for LESS options and customization (which also decreases players being able to make an original character.) .. yeah, ALL rogues have to backstab, ALL clerics are HEALER only.. such bullshit. (For the record, my long term rogue was a trapsmith, and my cleric was the highest DPS in ANY party due to crits and called shots and my 2H + feats.)

  • If your game lacks story, it's the player's and DM's fault. Not the edition. Story is edition neutral. Clerics, wizards, and druids were gods in 3e, they made all other classes obsolete. This is why i refuse to ever play it again.

  • When did we ever say that? I have more imagination than 10 DMs, and have been doing it for 17 years dude. 3e was way better than 4e, and really 4e was made for a wider audience of noobs to play 'roles' like an mmorpg. Period.

Secondly, that's BS because if you were an equal level fighter, with decent dex / imp. initiative - you could easily, called shot head and taken the wizard out in 1-2 rounds, much less the ridiculous concentration check they'd have to make.

  • The true casters dominate high levels in 3e. They literally have world destroying power. The whole 3e is beteer blah blah blah is your opinion, so don't speak as though it's everyones opinion, but since you have to resort to namecalling, I guess I know he maturity level I'm

dealing with. My saturday night 4e game is about 80% story driven, and we just went 3 entire 6 hour sessions with no combat at all. The dm and players create the story, the rules do not.

  • Sorry it's a GENERAL consensus, esp seeing how poorly sales are doing for 4th Edition compared to 3.0/3.5 Releases. You go on any board and over half of the content is negative about 4.0 and how it's such a joke. It's poorly designed, it has too much focus on 'roles' instead of creativity, and it's basically a shitty set of powers that blow in comparision. Don't even get me started on the changes in core races and other BS like a classic core spell, magic missile being complete crap now..

  • I actually like 4th edition. at first I didnt but then I realized the same game mechanics are there for those who want to use them, its just simpler. Atleast we don't have to make a fucking million roles for grapple checks. =) Oh and its less boring, more options.

  • IMO dude 4th edition sucks. In 4th ed every class is has such minor differences to the point that it doesn't matter what you choose. At least in 3rd ed there were reasons to have a class besides just to be able to say your a fighter or what not. Also it's stupid that the gnome's a monster cause gnomes are deserving of being a player race without having to tweak it with house rules. Anyways, this was IMO so don't be like everyone else on youtube and get butthurt when someone share their opinion.

  • People keep saying that about the classes but I dont see it, maybe I will the longer I play but so far. I like what they've done with it. I respect your opinion.

  • I think it's mostly with how the wizard can do much, much better solo against a fighter than should be possible without actually working towards being a battlemage of sorts I think, can't remember cause it's been like more than 3 month's since I played any 4th ed. but time away from the edition was how the bad points my friend pointed came to light for me. Thank you for respecting it, I respect your opinion as well dude.

  • You can play as a Gnome anyway. It's in the monster manual.

  • Screw 4th ed.They completely screwed up leveling, and the alignment system is insulting to the iltelligence of a thrid grader. And now they nerfed beholders? Where's the depth? Where's the lethality of the game?

    Wizards, you failed.

  • bah!

  • lol these things are friggin genious

  • I generally hate beholders but that one is so badass i admire him. (or it ?)

  • The interviewer should have either used some enchanted mirror, or have been a lich. XD

  • I spit food all over my screen because the beholder said," If I had a copper piece for every paladin I made into a bird feeder".

    The best line ever!

  • 4th edition sucks so bad! Newtered alignment system, dumbed-down spell casting...4th ed is going to crash and burn. No old-school players are going touch it. WotC wants to tell me I've been playing incorrectly for 30 years-as if. Clinging hard to my previous edition books.

  • While I do not believe the new spellsystem to be bad (In fact, I never really liked the old Vancian system of casting. Forced you to design around it, with completely silly and arbitrary rest periods, in the worst places, if you wanted to give casters a fighting chance), I agree on the statement that the new alignment system sucks majorly.

But that is what house rules are for;)

  • the alighnement system has no impact on the game mechanics anymore in any way. its completely up to you, if you want to call your characters alignement good, unaligned or chaotic awesome. same for the monsters. actually, i like it better that way since 3.5 forced you into an absolut alignement system.

  • I see you completely misunderstood what alignment was for :/ You can do anything you want, but on an ontological scale the universe ranks you a certain manner. Whether it was because the gods say so or some other powers that be is specific to the setting, but you still needed to know whether the sword of uber goodness wil like or dislike you. Christ so many people epic failed understanding what alignment was for. I suppose had to make the change for all the stupid people that insist playing.

  • Comment removed

  • Casters were the most powerful classes. "Give casters a fighting chance" is a fuckin joke. I find that most people that play the old editions didn't even get the rules anyways. I leave them with kiddy time and 4th edition. Anyone who bitches that spell casters had problems should be playing console shooters.

  • Agreed. Back in 2nd Ed. A high lvl wizard could easily take a pure fighter 1v1.

  • They weren't arbitrary at all, it was once in a 24 hour period.

  • Never played 4th and 3rd was pretty dumbed down. I can only imagin how bad 4th is. AD&D 2nd ED FTW!

  • Why no love to the paladins? :(

  • I still play DND 3rd edition. 3.5 to be exact. 4th ed sucks balls.

  • 4th ed is good for new players since there's SOME similarities, and it's much easier to get used to...though you'll be sorely prepared for 3.5 spell system...

  • i just talk to the dragons, you would be amazed at how well that works, after the GM gets over the initial shock, and you pull it off, and have a new scaly best buddy, others have tried, and they were eaten. anyways, hasbro killeed ad&d, play other games now, gonna be playing a hackmaster/2nd ed ad&d game as well, because... well... it doesnt suck, PS dont fight beholders

  • I stopped playing D&D because it always failed to deliver the goods. TSR and WOTC failed on this game. Level based games will always be lacking in lethality that makes the good rpg's fun. In D&D who cares if you go up against a monster too powerful, most DM's wont put the dragon in the dragon's lair if you can't kill it. Even if it makes perfect sense for the dragon to be there. It fails. If i could find a group that doesnt pity stupid players I might give it a chance again.

  • That because you play with bad DM and/or player. A good DM would make it for there to be environment (for example cave is full of stalagmites and you use earthquake (how you come to get it could be other quest if no one got the spell) to make them fall on the dragon) you can use against the creature or add npc back up if he thing are too hard for head on fight.
