Can I feed them Fire Ants? I live in Florida and we pretty much have only Fire Ants and Black Ants (which dont bite). Or will the Fire Ants bite them? Like on the tongue?
@pokemonfanatic123 They will eat fire ants but might tear into your walls and floor to go after them. No matter how infested you think you are you wont have enough to support them on the ants alone plus it's not a good enough diet. You don't have the termites and the ants don't have the same stomach contents as in the Amazon.
@thehappydagger I ussed to take them out by my store when I had it so they wouldn't pee in the shop. I only let Pua walk in the neighborhood a couple times. I'm to worried about dogs. We take them on the hiking trails instead.
@wrylie188 I will freeze them and then feed them to them as snacks but you can't really have that be their main food as you can't feed them all the species etc they normally get in the wild to match what they need.
do you think i could ask what you feed him/her, a friend of mine actually use to have a giant anteater (nosey), but she couldnt afford to take care of it because of food cost, and had to give it to a nearby zoo, (i like this zoo because they let her visit inside the enclosure since she raised it, she brought me once too) shes actually thinking about adopting her back from the zoo because shes thinking about trying a different diet, do you think you could tell me what you feed this one?
Google anteater care sheet and mine comes up. I feed the beef diet. It's probably about $50 a month to feed one of these little guys. I buy stuff in bulk to save costs.
They naturally like one place to pee and one to poop. They like a secluded spot. Pua pees on a peed pad in the closet. We compromised on her poop spot and she just perches on the head board and lets it fall to the floor and I can leave a pad there. They only poop every other day on average so it's not a big deal.
They will test their boundaries sometimes and try to go in other rooms but not to much and giving treats for going on the pad helps.
They are like big rats though in that they dribble a bit of pee as they run around. They are more stubborn about choosing where they want to poop and the male was the worse of the two.
They sleep about 18hrs. Pua gets up around 5 then is in her washer by 11 or 12 though might get up for a snack. Stewie did get up in the afternoons for a bit then would get back up in the evening. Pua was more active during the night when younger.
I was actually reading an extremely interesting article recently by Professor Allan Mcbridy of Glenreagle University and it basically explained that Anteaters are dieing out because something like 75% of the males have homosexual tenancies and because of this they are not mating with the females. Isn't that interesting!
Very true MIke! But unfortunately without actually personally knowing people here...their posted age is all we have to go on....but I agree...delocke is probably some snot nosed little turdmonkey
Everybody: shut the fuck up. Anteaters are the coolest animals. Dumbshit dogs can't do half the stuff an anteater can. Just like football players don't do half as much as lacrosse players. :)

LOl. Hyzzie is a girl. Because Pua eats a beef mix and that can stick to the claws both the dogs tend to follow her around at times hoping for goodies to drop off of her as she run about.
Not exactly. A good amount (I used to know the body weight ratios) of real chocolate can be fatally toxic to a lot of animals. However, most of the chocolate we eat is pretty low on the purity scale. It would take a whole lot of it to get to that point. It's still not something you want to give a lot of unless you particularly enjoy cleaning up loose stool, but the occasional bit isn't going to pose a threat in ordinary cases.
My parrot steals the occasional chocolate chip from my cookies.
Sorry about all the bad comments from others, I for one think it's incredibly impressive what you've done with your anteaters, and admire your dedication. Your anteaters look happy and healthy, so obviously you must be taking care really good care of them. Well, I suppose you could force them to sew wallets for export when the cameras are off...(kidding, obviously)
I was just wondering what region you lived in with your anteaters. It looked temperate, is a cold winter ever a problem?
We're in Oregon. Not terrible winters but they have to live inside here and just go out when it's warm. I've seen them shiver sometimes at 65, not always though. So I keep it around 75. To hot can be a problem too. They aren't very good at regulating their body temp.
All of a sudden everybody's a friggin expert on anteater dietary nutrition, eh?
Obviously she knows what she is doing, and the damned animal seems content and healthy.
PETA crybabies need to shut their mouths and go back to funding the mass slaughter of animals (which is what PETA is directly responsible for, after all).
Kudos on the giant rat, though... he looks awesome.
I love how people post comments like they know a damn thing about taking care of one of these animals. You shouldn't feed them that or how dare you have on as a pet...morons. my rabbit eats gummy bears and pieces of KFC biscuits as treats. he's healthy and happy.
and your pets look healthy and happy. exotics make great pets if you know what you're doing and people with visions of you yanking them out of the wild against their will is just stupid, acquiring exotics is HARD.

from your own faq:
"There are some from the wild like me, Pua, too but you REALLY must know what your are getting into and have solid animal and exotic experience first. It's not easy to deal with a sick tam strait from the wild."
and
"I came from Guyana, South America. It took mom over a year of trying to get me."
which means you = big fat LIAR. there's no excuse, really. stop trying to pretend you did any good to this animal, to others of his species, or to nature in general. you didn't.
No because that is about Pua and this is about Stewie and Stewie came from Florida. Pua came from Guyana and it took over a year to arrange and is heavily regulated under CITES and USDA rules ect. She came from the wild ill, she was a failure at living wild and had to be nursed back to health. It was all done legally and it would be easier to get drugs and firearms into the US illegally than live animals. It almost never happens. I have my USDA license and was just inspected yesterday and passed
And it does do the species a lot of good having them. We do education about the species and conservation in South America. So many people have never heard of them or know anything about them some may vaguely know about them but come to care about them through us.
It is also well known the wilds are quickly disappearing. So they can go extinct or live with us unless people mend their ways but do you see that happening?
And it does explain the Stewie came from Florida in the FAQ and the video is obviously labeled Stewie. So you are the one being deceptive taking info you know is about another animal than we are talking about and trying to say I lied.
Everything in moderation. I really appreciate seeing a cute anteater having a treat. That is why it is called a treat. Thank you for posting these. I love anteaters.

spray cheese? anteaters eat ants...give your poor animal the proper food - how about healthy treats? Spray cheese is not "food" in any shape or form, for people or animals.
So I've got six years of anteater knowledge and experience. 3yrs hands on experience and continual research and learning about them. I've just spent about every waking moment of the last week, and some moments I should have been sleeping. Studying and reformulating the diet to be as good as possible. What makes you such an expert you can lecture me on what I feed them?
Spray cheese is not that bad try reading the label and google the indredients.
There's nothing wrong with a treat now and then. People are acting like spray cheese is poison. There's nothing in it that is all that bad. People feed kibble to their pets everyday with worse things in it.
uhm excuse me, i eat spray cheese on a daily basis and it's considered food...amazing spectacular food at that. who cares if anteaters get to enjoy the amazingness of spray cheese? if i feed my flying squirrel cheerios i'm pretty sure cheese is harmless for stewie/pua. you're dumb. i love pua & stewie. bye.
Stewie never had Blemishes that was Pua and she had anteater pox(yes it's a real thing) when we got her. The cheese is just for treats and it's really not that bad when you read the label.
