Yo, Taichi50, That's not Tom playing the solo -- it's me... Suprise... Tom plays the end solo, I play the middle but because it was television I cut my solo in half. Go on, Worship Tom, he'll despise you for it. Hahahaha.
@lloyd206 Good on you,let people know about talent when you have it & you have it in abundance, I love this track & have been a fan of the band for a long time. I think the early breakup created a sort of mystique about Television. What do you think?
Hey Television fans, there are much better versions of this performance posted elsewhere. That being said, if you're a guitar player (and if you're a Lloyd/Verlaine fan you know you are) check out the online tabs for this tune- they claim it's in C#! Fuckin' piano players!
Yes ,Yes Yes ! Rock royalty ! I walked into CBGB's in '76 or so for a drink and stuck around to hear these guys.Have not seen them since. As someone said earlier , Hard to pick fav's. Theres so many.
Hey Zigg, I can't talk about the finer points of the strat over the jazzmaster like these guys, though I respect their comments greatly, but just the confidence, omnipotence, arrogance (in the nicest sense) of Verlaine making a decision 'should I change the plec, hmm' half way through the song! Yes, rock n' roll royalty of the true line!
Verlaine shoukd stick with the Jazzmaster, he's not the same with the Strat, he never uses (or has) the tremolo bar on it. He creates the most beautiful and aggressive solos with the Jazzmaster.
Unquestionably, he's great with the jazzmaster, almost certainly the greatest jazzmaster player ever. At the same time, though, he's managed to take his creativity in a whole new direction with his lipstick-pickup stratocaster, emphasizing chord structure, harmonics and volume swells in a different way than before. Have you heard any of the Experimental Film recordings or Songs and Other Things? They might just change your mind.
I saw Tom Verlaine solo some years ago but never saw Television play live, so this is a great treat, even with soft visuals and subdued volume. Verlaine plays a solo that ranks with the best guitar solos I've ever heard, and I'm a huge Mark Knopfler fan. What a thrill! This needs to be heard by anyone who loves great rock.
Totally agreed!!! I keep coming back to this. As an old Deadhead, i love clean tones and great songs that get stretched out a bit with an unhurried pace-just wonderful!!!
I wish they'd bring out a DVD of Television covering their history with some live stuff and promo videos. Am I alone in liking 'Adventure' a tad more than 'Moon'?
i think adventure is pretty underrated with songa like glory, the fire, careful and a dreams dream my favs but i prefer marquee moon and the self titled one. which is really avant garde but it works
I know it sounds crude to say...but this version pisses all over the album version. They really, really, REALLY could've extended out the solos on the album and it would've been better.
The only problem I had with the whole album were the songs felt too short for my liking- I just love to wallow in these guitars...

It's hard to pick favorites with Television albums because they all three have great songs and each one is saying something different.

I love how Lloyd works the lower register, which is so often neglected by most soloists. That growly tone is beautiful, just beautiful!
Salguine 3 years ago 3
No kidding! Even when he's doing backing work at 6:00 - 6:15, it's really simple, cool, and down on the bottom.
