I've read all the comments with the greatest interest, and have to say that I disagree with a lot of them!! To my ears this is not a good performance. Quite apart from the finger slips, his rhythm and timing are all over the place and go far beyond what could politely be termed rubato or interpretation. Indeed they are so erratic as to be off-putting. Mr Christiansen has badly misjudged and misunderstood the nature of this charming and light-heated English miniature.
Placing mics infront of a high pressure hooded reed = not a good idea. Fun contrast of a couple solo reeds. Not the best I've ever heard Clay play but oh well. I wouldn't want to be doing all of that pedaling with cameras at my feet either.
I have heard this piece many times but Clay plays this better than anyone yet. Even the great Diane Bish can't touch his sweet performance on this piece of music. Watch his head and timing
Aeolian Skinner's greatest instrument! This organ has voices that will bring tears to your eyes and Clay Christiansen did this great instrument proud! BRAVO!!
I had the opportunity to play a couple of pieces on this organ about 12 years ago, it was quite an experience! For one thing the sound goes in the ear facing the organ, and about 5 sec's later it bounces back from the other end of the room into the OTHER ear. It was so confusing I had to play about half the tempo.
one of the finest organs in the world and home to The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The broadcast if from Music and The Spoken Word, the longest continous radio program in the world, first began in July 1929 and still on the air each Sunday.
The Grand Ole Oprey began broadcasting prior to Music and the Spoken Word, however it has not run continuously week-after-week since then. Music and the Spoken Word has.
Dr. Christiansen is a genius at the organ. He plays with such beautiful interpretaion of the music. It is truly magical to hear him play live!

I think Clay Christiansen plays this better than any I've heard. His timing, and tempo is right on the mark!
