This movie marked my life, i watched this movie first time with 10 year old. Great movie, but it's a shame that it has a lot of historic error, in Stirlings battle it was a bridge, and in the movie there is no bridge.

The thistle represents everything he would ever live for…..the thistle leads him to love, which leads him to this undying courage, which leads him to his triumph that ultimately takes him to his dignified death. This movie is just about as close to perfection as its humanly possible...its one of those movies that change you,..a movie after which you just stare into the screen with wet eyes until the credits are over....

This scene is very touching...but what made me cry (and i'm a male) was a bit later when they were adults and William gave her this flower wrapped into cloth...its just so powerful and touching....90's really were the era of cinematographic masterpieces (shawhank, green mile, this, etc)
